Chapter 151 - Was She Actually Delighted?
It was a Saturday morning, but it wasn't the usual morning where I would wake up late and have my breakfast when normal people were having their lunch.
With messy hair, sticking out like a fluff ball, I rubbed my eyes, as I walked towards the bedroom door. I could hear Nee-chan and Lilith talking with each other. It sounded like they were laughing among themselves.
I casually walked into the kitchen and noticed Nee-chan preparing something delicious as the aroma of the food was great. Lilith was sitting on the chair, as she glanced towards me and said, "You're finally awake?"
"Oh… the sleeping beauty is up?" Nee-chan turned her head towards and said sarcastically.
"Good Morning." I greeted her, took my seat next to Lilith. I also noticed that she was wearing her light blue t-shirt which she bought last month.
Turning her head completely towards me, she rested her hands on her waist and with a roll of her eyes, she said, "Don't you feel any shame to greet people with a good morning in the afternoon?"
"Not at all." I said without any hesitation whatsoever.
Looking at the pressure cooker on the stove, I asked her, "What are you cooking?"
It's been a long time since I've eaten something cooked by Nee-chan. I remember when we used to be kids, she was learning how to cook at that time so she would always make new dishes and I would be her subject to try them out. Though she cooks really well.
"Breakfast." She said sarcastically, but I knew that she was actually cooking the lunch as I could see the rice cooker too.
"Haha, very funny!" I said mockingly as she just chuckled and got back to cooking. After observing her last day, I could tell that Lilith and Nee-chan were quite compatible with each other. Maybe that was because of the personality that Lilith was faking.
I glanced over to Lilith who was observing our conversation in silence as from Nee-chan's perspective she was just a neighbour so it wasn't her place to speak or make comments.
If Nee-chan sees how me and Lilith actually interact then I'm pretty sure she'll get the wrong idea and would easily look through our facade. Opening my mouth, a frown appeared on my face and I said, "Lilith-san, how long are you gonna stay here?"
"Wha…" Lilith looked at me with a confused look, as Nee-chan instantly turned back and said with a sharp tone, "Sai! That's rude!"
Lilith chuckled as she lightly waved her left hand in front of her and said, "Oh no it's alright… I understand."
With an embarrassed smile on her face, Nee-chan glared at me with her side glance as she said, "Don't get him wrong, he is just rude sometimes."
"I can tell." Lilith gave her a small nod and glanced at me for an instant.
Last night I had a conversation with Lilith. Of course, since she and Nee-chan slept in my bedroom, I slept on the couch and we communicated through our minds as usual.
As I heard from Lilith, she told Nee-chan a whole story about her being my neighbour and there being some electrical fault in her apartment so she came to stay with me for some time at first.
I asked her how she would explain about the clothes but actually handled that pretty well too. She told Nee-chan that she didn't have plans to stay for long but since the repair was taking a long time, she took some of her clothes and came over.
It was a legible story, but only if we go by her words. The way me and Lilith were acting, it was pretty natural to consider us real neighbours.
There were moments when Nee-chan actually tried to make Lilith say something about me but Lilith wasn't dumb, after all she is a devil. But the fact that Nee-chan is actually talking with a devil without being aware of it is a bit concerning for me.
"Sai!" Hearing Nee-chan's voice, I glanced at her as she was holding a spoon in her hand and was walking towards me.
"Hmm?"
"Tell me how it is?" She said pointing towards the spoon from which hot steam was rising and a wonderful smell of oregano was radiating.
"It must be good since you made it." I said with a shrug as she held the spoon near my mouth and I took a sip of the soup, "Of course… still you have to taste it."
With the warm soup spreading across my taste buds, I looked at Nee-chan as she gave me a bright smile. I showed her the thumbs up gesture and walked back with the spatula in her hand.
Lilith rested her chin on her hand and glanced at Nee-chan as she asked, "By the way, you're only over the weekend?"
Nee-chan looked up diagonally and then answered after some time, "Yeah… sadly my classes will start from Monday so I can't stay for much."
Lilith chuckled as she raised her hands in the air and with an excited tone, she said, "Oh… lucky me since I don't have classes next week…. Yayyy!!!"
Looking at Lilith's innocent delight, Nee-chan couldn't help but sigh as she reminisced about her school days too, "Man… I miss my high school days…"
Lilith tilted her head at Nee-chan's statement and asked curiously, "But isn't University more fun?"
Lilith was such a great actor that I was looking at her in shock. My mouth was wide open as I was gawking at her. She gave me a sharp look in return and averted my eyes, gulping hard.
"It is… but it's also more responsibilities." Nee-chan said as she put the dish on simmer and walked towards us.
"Well… can't argue since I don't know." Lilith shrugged with a little chuckle and her composure was so convincing that it really felt like she was a high school student.
Eating with Nee-chan on the same table was something I don't get to experience anymore since I left my house and she moved over to the University dorm.
"By the way, Sakamaki-kun seems really… you know, distant…" Lilith suddenly asked Nee-chan as they were talking about something casual.
"Uhh… why did you think that?" Nee-chan was taken aback by her sudden question as she took a small pause and looked at Lilith in confusion.
Lilith glanced at me as if her scarlet eyes were indeed looking through me and said, "I don't know… he seems like he is a lot more than he shows, he has a lot in his mind then what he says, his eyes observe a lot more than it seems."
As Lilith finished saying that, Nee-chan looked at her hesitantly and with an awkward smile she said, "Well… it's actually our family matter…"
Lilith instantly bowed down and in a soft tone, she apologized, "Oh I'm really sorry… I shouldn't have…"
"No it's alright… you didn't know." Nee-chan just flicked her hand with a smile, and Lilith again bowed, "Sorry for my inconsideration."
Nee-chan opened her mouth to say something but then she stopped mid way as her hazel eyes shifted towards me, and with a cheeky smirk she said, "Well… it's because… you can ask him… you know."
"Eh?" I looked at her in confusion, as she continued with a casual tone, "It's your problem… if you don't have a problem then you should share with her."
After thinking about it for some time, and staying quiet, I took a deep sigh and said, "I don't actually have a problem but it's awkward… you know?"
Lilith leaned towards me, and with a smug she asked, "Oho? What is it?"
"It's not something interesting you know." I said in a plain tone as and stretched my arms backwards.
Lilith's lips curved into a smile as her eyes narrowed at me and she said, "Well by your reaction, it seems quite interesting."
Noticing Nee-chan glancing at us with a smile on her face, she looked at me and said in a cheerful tone, "Yeah tell her, Sai!"
I looked at her for some time, and narrowed my eyes at her before saying,"Nee-chan… tell me something?"
"Hmm?"
"By some reason, I hope you aren't actually shipping us."
"Wha… pfftttt… not at all!" She instantly shook her hands, as I knew she was indeed doing that, as I said, "You definitely were."
Though one thing was weird that Nee-chan didn't ask about Lilith's unique appearance. Her silver hairs paired with her crimson eyes were indeed a rare combination, but didn't seem to faze Nee-chan.
Hearing those laughs, and somewhat it felt like Lilith was also enjoying talking with someone else besides me. And somewhere in her eyes, it felt like she was really relieved and her smiles were quite genuine.
Also listening to their conversation it felt like Nee-chan would leave tomorrow morning. I ate lunch, I mean my breakfast with them and we talked a lot. It was actually quite enjoyable in the least.
