Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder
Chapter 78: Bei He
Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Bei He
CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!—
Thunderous applause erupted as everyone congratulated Lin Jingjing on her victory.
It also proved to those of higher grades that even someone with Grade D spiritual power could knock them all to the ground.
However, the crowd didn’t know that Lin Jingjing’s spiritual power had already dropped to Grade F.
As Lin Jingjing walked over, Feng He gave her a thumbs-up and said with a smile, "That was awesome."
Hearing Feng He’s praise, Lin Jingjing ran a hand through her hair, her face alight with pride.
"You know it."
Shi Feng also gave her a thumbs-up, gushing, "That part where you were hovering in the air and shooting at him was so damn cool."
"And that part on the stairs was super cool too, like you were on a catwalk!" Shi Feng said, rushing over to hug Lin Jingjing. "That’s Sister Lin for you—unbeatable!"
"What about me? Wasn’t I amazing?" Mo Xuan asked, finally willing himself to leave Feng He’s embrace.
Hearing Mo Xuan, Shi Feng let go of Lin Jingjing and frowned. "You were great too, but you’re still a step behind Sister Lin."
He then added, "You’ve still got work to do, Mo Xuan."
Hearing this, the others couldn’t help but chuckle.
’Aren’t those the same words Lin Jingjing just said to that kid on the field?’
Mo Xuan: ...
’This guy. Not a single good word ever comes out of his mouth.’
While they were still celebrating Lin Jingjing’s victory, a female voice rang out.
It was loud, and everyone could hear it crystal clear.
"He lost. Can I challenge you?"
The crowd looked toward the source of the voice and saw a long-haired young woman.
She was very beautiful, and her tight-fitting training uniform perfectly outlined her curvaceous figure.
Her silver hair stood out in the crowd.
She walked toward the center of the field as she spoke, her gaze fixed on Lin Jingjing, eyes full of excitement.
"Her hair is exactly like Chief Bei’s," Shi Feng said, his gaze immediately falling on the woman’s hair.
"True, Chief Bei’s hair is also silver." Feng He nodded, his eyes narrowing slightly as he wondered what the relationship between the two could possibly be.
’And who poisoned Chief Bei with that slow-acting toxin?’
Hearing their exchange, Lin Jingjing turned to look at the woman on the field.
"Who are you?" Lin Jingjing called out.
"I am Bei He, a student at the Imperial Military Academy with 2S Spiritual Power," she introduced herself. She was very interested in this Lin Jingjing.
’Her surname is Bei... Could she really be related to Beisang?’
Jiang Lusheng watched Bei He in the center of the arena, a flash of disgust in his eyes.
He had been about to stop a third match from happening, but now he sat right back down. The instructor next to him asked in confusion, "Instructor Jiang, didn’t you say you were going to stop the matches?"
Hearing him, Jiang Lusheng waved a hand dismissively. "If they want to fight, let them. It’s better than them brawling in private."
After hearing Jiang Lusheng’s response, the other instructors said no more.
Lin Jingjing took a step forward, her brow furrowing slightly as she looked at the woman. "What is your relationship to Chief Beisang?"
Hearing the question, Bei He burst out laughing. Then, in a demeaning tone, she said, "Her? She’s just the sister my father kicked out of the family."
"Back then, Father decided she brought no benefit to the family. He told her to marry for an alliance, but she refused, so he had no choice but to kick her out."
’If she hadn’t managed to secure her position as Chief of the First Corps, Father would have already dragged her down and replaced her with someone more capable from our family.’
’And I wouldn’t have had to come here right after graduating from the Imperial Military Academy.’
Bei He spoke with a smile, completely oblivious to the fact that the expressions of everyone watching her had changed.
They might have their own squabbles and disagreements, but the Chief of the First Corps was Beisang.
They had all joined the First Corps because of Beisang. For Bei He to say such things in front of them all... was she trying to get a rise out of them?
Lin Jingjing stared at Bei He with cold eyes, then began walking toward the center of the field.
"I accept your challenge," Lin Jingjing said, looking her in the eye.
When they heard Lin Jingjing accept the challenge, the crowd erupted.
"Smash her face in for us! Show her what happens when she acts so high and mighty!"
"Who does she think she is, talking about our Chief Bei like that!"
"Beat her so bad her own dad won’t recognize her!"
One after another, their voices rose until the entire training ground was a cacophony of shouts.
It was clear that everyone was furious about what Bei He had said.
Watching everyone support Lin Jingjing, with not a single person cheering for her, Bei He felt a pang of jealousy.
’This woman isn’t even stronger than me, so why is everyone supporting her?’
To this moment, Bei He still didn’t understand the situation. The crowd was supporting Lin Jingjing because of the utterly disrespectful things she had just said.
Who didn’t know that Chief Bei had once single-handedly killed a mutant beast Leader, paying the price of complete spiritual power depletion to ensure everyone else survived?
Not to mention the countless battles, large and small, she had fought before that.
Even if she was Chief Bei’s sister, she had no right to speak of her that way.
"Since you’ve accepted the challenge, let’s begin," Bei He said. She extended her hand, and a long staff materialized in her grasp.
Staff in hand, Bei He charged. Halfway to her opponent, she leaped into the air and brought the staff crashing down on Lin Jingjing.
Lin Jingjing hastily threw up a Spirit Barrier to block, but Bei He’s spiritual power was 2S—even higher than Cyril’s.
The blow shattered Lin Jingjing’s Spirit Barrier instantly.
Lin Jingjing’s eyes widened as she watched her Spirit Barrier shatter to pieces. Her reflexes were fast; she dodged just as the staff came down.
The staff scraped past her and slammed into the ground, smashing a huge crater into the training field’s floor.
Lin Jingjing quickly summoned her Tang Blade and a gun and began to fight back.
The Tang Blade for defense, the pistol for offense.
But Bei He’s assault was too ferocious. She stayed right on top of Lin Jingjing, giving her absolutely no chance to fire her gun.
Watching this, the crowd broke out in a cold sweat for Lin Jingjing.
They wondered if she could possibly defeat this woman.
Watching the relentless assault from Bei He, Lin Jingjing put away her pistol. Gripping the hilt of her blade with both hands, she focused completely on fending off the attacks.
Seeing her put away the gun, Bei He’s smile widened, and her tone turned mocking. "What’s wrong? Realize you can’t win?"
"Lasting even a few rounds against me is the absolute limit for a Grade D piece of trash like you. Did you actually think you could defeat me?"
As she spoke, Bei He swung her staff at Lin Jingjing’s waist, continuing to taunt, "Just give up. You can’t beat me."
It was a powerful blow. Lin Jingjing tried to block it with her Tang Blade but was sent flying.
The hearts of the crowd clenched as they watched Lin Jingjing get sent flying.
This was especially true for her four friends, worry etched on each of their faces.
"Is she really this strong? Can Sister Lin actually win?" Shi Feng asked, extremely worried.
