Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder
Chapter 56: Injured
Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Injured
’If only Sister Lin were here,’ Feng He thought. ’She’d have keenly sensed something was off and quickly found a way to deal with it.’
The further they went, the stronger the smell of blood became. Even for an excellent surgeon like Feng He, who could perform several operations back-to-back, the stench of blood here was incredibly thick. It was so nauseating it made her want to vomit.
She walked onward, covering her nose with one hand while keeping the other on the gun at her back, terrified that a mutant beast might suddenly appear and she wouldn’t be able to kill it in time.
The deeper they went, the more eerie the atmosphere became.
No one spoke along the way, but Feng He could hear the sound of water dripping onto stone slabs.
Again and again, the relentless dripping was a spine-chilling sound.
Even with so many people accompanying her, Feng He still didn’t feel safe.
They had no idea how long they’d been walking when the team finally stopped.
Another fork in the road appeared ahead. He Luanchuan stood at the junction, frowning, unsure which path to choose.
As he was struggling with the decision, a sound suddenly came from the left fork. It was very faint, but everyone present heard it clearly.
It instantly put the tense soldiers on guard; each of them raised their guns and aimed at the opening of the left fork.
The voices slowly grew closer, and they could faintly make out what sounded like a discussion.
Feng He took a few steps forward, and after hearing the voices clearly, a wide smile spread across her face.
’That’s right, that was Shi Feng’s voice!’
’If that’s Shi Feng, then Sister Lin and the others must be there too!’
Feng He was overjoyed. She pushed through the crowd and rushed forward.
Reaching the fork, Feng He was overcome with excitement.
’I can finally see Sister Lin and the others!’
He Luanchuan and Lin Ye saw her excitement and asked, "What are you so excited about?"
"It’s Sister Lin and the others!" Feng He replied excitedly.
’Sister Lin... who’s that?’
"Whoa, why is it so bright up ahead!" Shi Feng exclaimed, shocked as he looked at the incredibly bright exit not far away.
"Don’t tell me we’ve reached the end?" Gu Kaiwen asked, raising a hand to shield his eyes from the intense light.
"Unlikely," Mo Xuan chimed in.
They were a sorry sight, their clothes tattered and torn. Not only that, but they were also injured.
Lin Jingjing walked at the very back, silent the entire time. She could feel the blood from the wound on her back continuously seeping out.
Her face was deathly pale, and she looked as if she could collapse at any moment.
Not only was her back injured, but her arms and shoulders had also been clawed by that mutant beast.
’When will we ever get out of this underground maze? I’m so tired.’
Lin Jingjing raised a hand to rub the bridge of her nose, feeling agitated.
Unbeknownst to her, her agitation caused her spiritual power to stir restlessly as well.
That pressure was unconsciously released, startling every soldier outside the tunnel’s entrance.
’This spiritual pressure... it’s so strong!’
As they all braced themselves against the spiritual pressure, they realized it had no offensive power at all.
The four from the tunnel quickly emerged. They were startled to see their own people, and upon spotting Feng He in the crowd, they excitedly ran over and embraced her.
"You really came down!" Shi Feng said excitedly, throwing his arms around her. Mo Xuan also reached out to hug Feng He; he didn’t speak, but his gaze toward her was incredibly gentle.
After hugging them, Feng He immediately looked toward Lin Jingjing, who was a short distance away, and shouted, "Sister Lin!"
Lin Jingjing heard her voice, raised her eyes to look at her, and finally managed a smile.
After smiling, she fell straight to the ground. Only then did they notice the ground behind her was soaked with blood.
Feng He’s face went pale with shock. She immediately pushed the others aside, rushed over, and gathered Lin Jingjing into her arms, then immediately began to check her wounds.
After the examination, her eyes reddened. She hadn’t expected the injuries to be so severe.
She looked up at the three men, her emotions spiraling out of control as she yelled at them, "How did you let this happen?! How could you let her get hurt this badly?!"
"Where’s the styptic?"
"Don’t you have some in your Space Ring?"
The three grown men stood there, stunned by her shouting and at a loss for what to do. Seeing Lin Jingjing’s wounds, their own faces turned grim.
"The styptic... Sister Lin gave it to us," Shi Feng said with his head down, telling the truth. "She lied and told us she had already taken some."
"We tried to give her some of ours, but she refused."
"What about the Recovery Potion?" Feng He pressed.
"We’re out," Mo Xuan answered.
The healing supplies were all we’d managed to save up during a month of special training, so we didn’t have many. We just kept moving forward from that research lab.
We encountered many mutant beasts. They were tall, skinny, incredibly fast, and had powerful attacks.
It took us a long time to deal with them. That’s when Shi Feng was most seriously injured.
He was on the verge of death. A bottle of Grade B Nutrient Liquid couldn’t stop his bleeding at all.
In the end, Lin Jingjing gave her styptic to Shi Feng, and that’s what saved his life.
We wanted to give Lin Jingjing half of what we each had, but she refused.
She lied to us, saying she’d already taken some and that her own bleeding had stopped.
We didn’t believe her, but Lin Jingjing scolded us harshly, so the two of us had no choice but to listen to her.
Just then, Lin Ye stepped forward, took out a vial of Grade A Recovery Agent, and poured it into Lin Jingjing’s mouth.
Instantly, the bone-deep wound on her back began to slowly heal.
Seeing how effective the agent was, Feng He’s eyes began to shine as she stared at it.
He Luanchuan came over then and asked, "On the path you took, what did you encounter along the way?"
Mo Xuan faced him and gave a simple, clear account: "There are several labs over there, mostly for research on mutant beasts. Of course, there were also a few labs for human research."
"One of the labs had many people locked inside."
"After we left that area, we ran into a lot of mutant beasts. They’re tall, thin, fast, and have strong attacks. They’re very hard to deal with."
After hearing this, He Luanchuan frowned and immediately contacted Gu Fei.
Gu Fei quickly answered the video call. Seeing him, she asked, "What is it?"
"There are people being held captive. Your new mission is to rescue them."
Gu Fei was taken aback by his words. ’People are being held captive?’
’Who’s being held?’
Then it hit her—civilians had been captured and brought here.
Gu Fei’s expression instantly turned serious. "Yes, I understand."
After ending the video call, Gu Fei continued to lead her people forward.
He Luanchuan glanced at the still unconscious Lin Jingjing, then said, "One of you carry her. We’re moving on."
Shi Feng and the others nodded. Gu Kaiwen had already walked over and lifted the unconscious Lin Jingjing onto his back.
The main group headed toward the other fork. They didn’t encounter any mutant beasts along this path.
It was eerily quiet.
