Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder
Chapter 32: Mutant Beast Rampage
Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Mutant Beast Rampage
Gu Fei heard him and was utterly speechless.
He was sending someone to their death. With He Shian personally escorting her, what was the difference between that and the two of them going to die together?
"Can you please stop messing around?" Gu Fei asked him seriously.
"You’re Admiral He, the one leading this entire operation against the mutant beasts!"
"If you die in the jaws of a mutant beast, what will happen to the soldiers here?" Gu Fei asked, her face a mask of frustration and impatience.
The surroundings were a cacophony of gnawing, tearing, crashing, and agonizing screams.
Even though they were both used to all of this, hearing these sounds again...
...they couldn’t help but feel a pang of anguish. Too many people had died in the mouths of mutant beasts. All they wanted was to end this never-ending struggle as quickly as possible.
If they didn’t stop the mutant beasts’ advance, the Empire would become their cradle.
Mutant beasts weren’t human; there was no negotiating with them.
"I know my limits. I won’t die here," He Shian said reassuringly, looking at her urgent expression.
"She said she has a way to end this battle quickly, and I believe her," He Shian said. "That’s why I brought her here in the Mecha."
As he spoke, He Shian used a long blade condensed from his spiritual power to swiftly dispatch the Red-winged Beasts that tried to attack the Mecha.
The others below were doing their best to provide cover, but as soon as one Steel Beast fell, another would take its place.
This wall built of mutant beasts was indestructible. Behind it, a white mutant beast stood, its crimson eyes staring at the sky.
As the Mecha drew closer and closer, the white mutant beast felt a growing sense of insecurity.
It could only shriek and roar out commands, ordering the Red-winged Beasts to tear the Mecha to shreds and kill the person piloting it.
Kneeling on one knee on the Mecha’s hand, Lin Jingjing looked through her scope at the white mutant beast. The defenses around it were absurdly strong.
Even after blasting the surrounding Steel Beasts again and again with bombs and bullets,
the Steel Beasts would just keep swarming in to protect it.
After observing it, Lin Jingjing came to a conclusion: the white mutant beast had no self-defense capabilities whatsoever.
’If I can just blast an opening through these Steel Beasts, I’ll have a chance to kill that white one!’
"Feng He, Mo Xuan, Gu Kaiwen, help me hold back those Steel Beasts!"
After saying that, Lin Jingjing shouted to He Shian, "Have your men drop more bombs in this direction!"
The area was saturated with firepower. The bombs were powerful, but the corpses of the Steel Beasts were piling up into a small mountain.
They still refused to give up and leave the white mutant beast exposed.
Perhaps the white mutant beast sensed the danger drawing ever closer.
It looked at the charging Mecha and, opening its massive jaws, let out a furious roar.
"AAAAAH—" The piercing sound gave anyone nearby a splitting headache, causing unbearable pain.
So it wasn’t defenseless after all. Its attack was sonic.
The pain was so intense that blood started trickling from Lin Jingjing’s ears. She collapsed onto the Mecha’s hand, looking like she was about to die.
After the white mutant beast roared, every other mutant beast, whether flying in the air or running on the ground, began to howl in response.
Their cries were immense and incredibly loud, traveling a great distance in an instant.
Red light flared in the eyes of every mutant beast, making them look terrifying in the darkness.
Coupled with the sharp fangs revealed in their gaping maws, their pointed teeth looked sinister under the lights, as if they could devour anyone in a single bite.
The mutant beasts grew excited, their bodies beginning to change. The Steel Beasts, originally only one meter wide and two meters tall, went berserk, their eyes glowing red.
Their skeletons began to expand. Their already hideous faces became even more grotesque, their massive mouths splitting open even wider.
"Holy shit." Feng He was completely stunned as he watched them grow larger, a curse escaping his lips.
’They can go berserk?’
"You’ve got to be kidding me. How are we supposed to fight this?"
"There’s no way to win."
Gu Kaiwen’s anxious voice rang out, reaching everyone’s ears.
With the berserk Steel Beasts standing there and roaring, it was even harder for Lin Jingjing to get a clear shot at the white mutant beast.
"We’re screwed..." Shi Feng said, watching the large screen and realizing they were completely surrounded by mutant beasts.
There were mutant beasts on the ground and in the sky. If they didn’t win, the only way out was death.
’It’s a tough fight. They have us outnumbered.’
They didn’t have many people, but they had a lot of Single Pilot Mechas, robots, and flying drones...
But in the face of the mutant beasts, most of these machines couldn’t last very long.
He Shian watched the scene unfold, hesitated for a moment, then said to Gu Fei, "We need reinforcements."
"So *now* you realize you need reinforcements?" Even in such a dire emergency, Gu Fei couldn’t help but tease him. "I told you to call Chief Bei for backup earlier, but you didn’t want to."
Despite her words, Gu Fei sent a request for reinforcements to Beisang.
The main issue was that the mutant beasts could suddenly go berserk, something He Shian hadn’t anticipated at all.
The berserk Red-winged Beasts were even more savage, constantly ramming into his Mecha. He Shian had no choice but to envelop the Mecha with his spiritual power.
"Return to base?" He Shian assessed their current situation and then asked Lin Jingjing, who was still outside on the Mecha.
But Lin Jingjing wasn’t ready to give up. They had come all this way; heading back now would mean failure.
But she couldn’t disregard Admiral He’s life.
As she struggled with the decision, Shi Feng’s voice came through. "Sister Lin, believe in yourself."
"If you think you can do it, you definitely can."
"That’s right!" Gu Kaiwen chimed in. "We’re already here. We might as well do something spectacular so we don’t have any regrets."
"Even if we die, it’ll be worth it."
Hearing their words of comfort and encouragement warmed Lin Jingjing’s heart, but she couldn’t let He Shian be put in danger.
"It’s too dangerous here. I’m afraid Admiral He will die," Lin Jingjing explained.
"Then let’s retreat and rethink our strategy," Feng He immediately replied.
"Agreed."
The discussion was over. They decided to retreat and formulate a new plan.
The return trip was not smooth. Everyone was attacked by mutant beasts, and Mo Xuan’s protective shield was even cracked by a single punch from one of them.
After reaching a safe zone, the group breathed a sigh of relief. Shortly after, He Shian’s Mecha also came to a stop.
The two of them climbed down from the Mecha, their expressions grim.
Looking at the chaotic mess of the battlefield in the distance, He Shian heaved a long sigh.
He never thought he’d run into something as rare as a berserk state.
The last time the mutant beasts went berserk, countless people died. Even the admiral who had been guarding that planet was killed in the frenzy.
Now, after more than twenty years, the mutant beasts had gone berserk again.
Back at headquarters, Beisang looked at the request for reinforcements sent by Gu Fei.
She immediately arranged for people to go provide support. Then, she stood up from her chair and walked out of the office.
The mutant beasts had gone berserk. It was her turn to enter the fray.
