Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder
Chapter 117: Bad Character
Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Bad Character
Lin Jingjing was absolutely furious. Without giving them a second glance, she turned and walked away. Just moments before, she had been thinking that if the group couldn’t hold on, she would step in and help.
And what did this group do?
She had put her heart on the line for them, and they had decided to play games with her head.
After leaving the snake den, Lin Jingjing took a deep breath, trying to calm her inner fury.
She only descended from mid-air when she saw Shi Feng. He was tugging at his clothes, trying to get the tiger to release him.
He was still shouting, "Let me go! I have to go save Sister Lin!"
"Let me go," Shi Feng shouted.
The tiger let go as soon as it caught its master’s scent. It looked toward Lin Jingjing and hurried over to nuzzle against her.
GRROWL...
’Master, I held him back. I didn’t let him come looking for you.’
GRROWL...
’Master, praise me!’
Lin Jingjing raised a hand to pat its head, saying with a chuckle, "Well done."
Remembering how the White-haired snakes had been biting it, Lin Jingjing asked, "You aren’t hurt, are you?"
The tiger huffed softly. ’Nope.’
"Alright, you can go back for now." Lin Jingjing nodded, then recalled the tiger.
Seeing Lin Jingjing’s disheveled state, Shi Feng rushed forward in a burst of emotion and hugged her. "Sister Lin, are you okay?"
He immediately let her go and gave her a thorough look-over. He only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming she had no serious injuries or snakebites.
Once he was done checking, Shi Feng asked, "Where are the others?"
"Are they still inside?" Shi Feng glanced toward the snake den in the distance, his voice tense.
After Lin Jingjing briefly explained what had happened, Shi Feng grew furious as well. ’What right do they have to make such demands of Sister Lin!’
"They’re horrible," Shi Feng fumed.
Lin Jingjing gazed into the distance. All was quiet over there now; she had no idea what was happening.
’They haven’t signaled for rescue, either. Don’t tell me they actually died in there?’
The thought of them all dying in there made her swallow her anger.
"I’ll go take a look." Lin Jingjing pinched the bridge of her nose, her voice laced with weary resignation.
Though Shi Feng was still angry, he didn’t protest. He just grabbed his gun and went back with her.
Halfway there, they saw that the large clearing ahead was completely encircled by the White-haired snakes. The sight of the massive, pitch-black ring of bodies was enough to trigger anyone’s trypophobia.
"How did we end up being the rescue team?" Shi Feng said with a helpless sigh, taking the fire torch Lin Jingjing handed him.
"It was the same thing with the Second Corps this morning. I’m so over this."
"Teams like them... no wonder two have already dropped out on the first day."
"I agree," Lin Jingjing nodded. "They have zero sense of urgency."
They used the torches to drive back the snakes. Afraid of the flames, the White-haired snakes quickly scattered.
It took some time, but the snakes finally retreated. The five people inside stared in surprise at the pair who had left and now returned.
"All clear. You can come out now," Lin Jingjing said, looking down at them.
With that, Lin Jingjing grabbed Shi Feng and left.
—
The others fell silent after hearing the story. Feng He slammed a fist into a nearby tree trunk.
"From now on, if we run into another corps in trouble, let’s not get involved," Feng He said, her voice turning icy.
"We’re only responsible for solving their food problem."
Mo Xuan looked at her, knowing she was angry. He chimed in, "Exactly. If we help them, isn’t that basically cheating for them?"
Gu Kaiwen scoffed. "They were lucky they ran into us. Anyone else would’ve just left them for dead."
Feng He crouched down to check on the two of them. Only after treating their injuries did she say, "Let’s find a safe place to rest."
"Right."
The viewers all knew what those five from the Sixth Corps had done. Now, hearing Feng He and Mo Xuan’s exchange, they exploded in the comment section.
[Those guys from the Sixth Corps are insane. They have skills but they’re deliberately holding back. If they wanted to hide their strength so much, why did they even join the competition?]
[I can’t stand those five. Captain Lin’s team is just supposed to be delivering supplies, what do they take them for?]
[They refuse to fight for real, but they also refuse to hit the rescue button. I just can’t with them.]
It wasn’t just the viewers who had an opinion. In the observation room, the high-ranking commanders all shot contemptuous looks at the commander of the Sixth Corps.
"Your soldiers seem to be lacking in character," Beisang said with a smile, looking at the female commander of the Sixth Corps.
Lin Jingjing and her team were from Beisang’s own corps. Seeing them wronged like this, Beisang naturally had to step in and put things right.
"Forcing someone’s hand, then trying to guilt-trip them," the Second Corps’ Army Commander, Ye Jianqing, said with a laugh. "It doesn’t matter how capable you are. Without character, it’s all useless."
"Just look at Captain Lin. Even after being treated that way, she still went back to save them," Ye Jianqing continued.
The face of the Sixth Corps’ commander was ashen, but she ignored their passive-aggressive commentary.
Lin Jingjing’s team followed the map to a relatively open area. Once they arrived, the five of them first swept the area for threats. Seeing no danger, they began to take out and pitch their tents.
Three of them worked on the tents while the other two went to gather firewood for a campfire.
Soon, the area was transformed into a campsite. They gathered around the fire, munching on snacks.
Mo Xuan even took out some chestnuts and roasted them by the fire, passing them around once they were cooked.
They passed the time enjoyably, eating chestnuts and chatting.
"A glass of lemonade would be perfect right now," Shi Feng sighed, nibbling on a chestnut.
Lin Jingjing immediately produced a small bag of dried lemon slices she’d prepared herself, complete with rock sugar.
"How about this?" Lin Jingjing offered. "Want to make some?"
"There’s no hot water," Shi Feng added.
Lin Jingjing was speechless. ’The fire is right there,’ she thought. ’Would it kill you to boil a pot of water?’
"You lazy bum, can’t you boil the water yourself?" Gu Kaiwen said, raising a fist at him.
"I can’t," Shi Feng said, his face completely straight. "I’m too scared to go out by myself."
"It’s pitch black out there."
The others were rendered speechless. In the end, Gu Kaiwen and Mo Xuan took a light sphere and went to fetch water from nearby.
They tossed a white tablet into the water and waited for it to purify before boiling it.
"The tree canopy here is so thick," Gu Kaiwen remarked, looking up at the inky black sky.
"You can’t see a sliver of moonlight. The leaves block almost everything."
"The trees here grow well. They haven’t been pruned in years, so of course they’re dense."
"Plus, the decaying leaves and animal carcasses become nutrients for them," Lin Jingjing added, poking at the fire with a stick.
The fire was strong, and the water boiled quickly. They each made a cup for themselves; the sweet and sour lemonade was quite refreshing.
When they had mostly finished their drinks, Lin Jingjing checked the time and saw it was getting late. "Feng He and I will take the first watch," she announced. "Gu Kaiwen and Mo Xuan, you two take the second. Shi Feng, you can rest tonight. You’ll start your watch rotation tomorrow."
