Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Wild Boar

[Who gets me? I just tuned in and the whole screen is full of spiders! AHHHH, my trypophobia is acting up!]

[They’re actually Rainbow Spiders. These guys have some seriously bad luck.]

[Rainbow Spiders are so cute! You can use them for medicine, or for revenge. One bite and the person dies.]

[Are they really that venomous?]

Many viewers were learning for the first time just how venomous the Rainbow Spiders were, that one bite could be fatal.

Wouldn’t an antidote work?

A scholar in the field had written a long, thousand-word article just to explain why people don’t survive a Rainbow Spider bite.

After reading it, everyone gave the thumb-sized spider a wide berth.

Once its venom enters the body, it induces hallucinations. Every night, the victim dreams they are being tortured.

Under this prolonged torment, the person’s mind will break down, and they’ll become completely unstable.

Those with weaker minds can’t last more than a few days before taking their own lives. People with stronger wills might hold on longer, but under such long-term torture, even the strongest person will eventually break.

No one has ever died directly from the Rainbow Spider’s venom, but the probability of it leading to suicide is one hundred percent.

Only after running a good distance away did the five of them finally breathe a sigh of relief. "That thing is seriously creepy," Feng He said, wiping the sweat from her forehead.

"They come out in swarms. One bite, and you’d be having nightmares every single night." As she spoke, Feng He looked down at the basket in her hands. Worried a Rainbow Spider might have snuck in, she warned, "Everyone, check your herb baskets for Rainbow Spiders."

"If you find one, use a stick to get it out quickly."

Hearing this, they all immediately crouched down and began to check.

Gu Kaiwen was the first to find one. In fact, there were two hiding in his basket of herbs.

He used a stick to flick them out and quickly killed them. After he was done, Gu Kaiwen sighed and said, "Damn it. Of all the baskets, they had to be in mine."

"Ah, I’ve got one too!" Shi Feng jumped in fright when he saw the Rainbow Spider. He quickly used a stick to get it out and kill it.

Only after checking did they hand the herbs over to Lin Jingjing for her to put in her Space Ring.

"Let’s find something to eat," Shi Feng said, rubbing his stomach. He was getting hungry. They had said they would eat before delivering the other meal, and the journey had been quite draining.

"Here." Lin Jingjing took out the apples she had picked and handed them out, one for each person.

"Have some."

Seeing that they were apples, a smile appeared on Shi Feng’s face. "I thought you gave all the apples to them."

"There were only a dozen or so, and there are thirty of them. It wasn’t enough to go around, so I didn’t give them any." Lin Jingjing wiped an apple on her clothes and started eating.

The others did the same, standing there eating their apples. Their clothes were filthy and their hands were a bit dirty too.

But with no water to wash with, there was nothing to be done.

"The weather isn’t cold anymore. It’s really unpredictable," Mo Xuan said, looking up at the sunlight filtering through the gaps in the leaves to dapple the ground. Then, he took an expressionless bite of his apple.

It was snowing heavily just yesterday, and today the sun was out. Truly unpredictable.

"The weather on B6 Star is just like that," Gu Kaiwen added. He had already finished his apple and tossed the core into the grass.

"You have to get used to it."

After finishing, Lin Jingjing wiped her hands on her clothes. They were already hopelessly dirty anyway, not to mention tattered and torn by the bats.

"The sun being out is perfect. I was just thinking about washing this jacket," Feng He said, looking down at her own filthy, ruined clothes.

"You can just dry it by the fire," Shi Feng replied.

The viewers still in the live stream were a little dumbfounded seeing them discussing clothes and the weather.

This was supposed to be a wilderness survival and fragment-finding competition, so why did it feel like these guys were just on a picnic?

They were too relaxed, with no sense of crisis whatsoever.

It was nothing like the members of the Six Great Armies in the other streams, who were constantly encountering all sorts of troublesome animals and plants. Every time, they were left a total mess after narrowly escaping with their lives.

Seeing how relaxed these five were, people were starting to wonder if the organizers were going easy on them.

After their break, they set out to find a river.

On the way to the river, they decided to take care of dinner for the evening.

Their luck was truly good; they actually came across an adult wild boar.

The wild boar was powerfully built and brutally strong. Its two sharp tusks were large, long, and sharp.

It was strolling about lazily, having likely just finished a meal.

Boars are omnivores. They eat anything, but their diet consists mainly of plants, though they will also eat small animals and carrion.

They forage for food according to the changing seasons.

Lin Jingjing assigned the task of hunting the boar to Gu Kaiwen and Mo Xuan, while she took the other two to look for wild vegetables.

’How can we have a meal without some greens?’

Feng He’s knowledge of wild vegetables and herbs was truly immense.

Having been around Feng He’s constant chatter about them for years, Lin Jingjing had also learned a lot.

She could recognize many things in the wild now.

After digging up some fiddlehead ferns and gathering some mushrooms, their baskets were full.

To their even greater surprise, there were chestnuts nearby.

"We still have two pheasants left. Should we make chestnut chicken later?" Lin Jingjing said with great excitement.

The moment Feng He heard "chestnut chicken," she realized how long it had been since she’d last eaten it.

After she started working, she rarely got to eat this dish made by Sister Lin. Now that Lin Jingjing mentioned it, Feng He’s mouth instantly started to water.

"Yes!" Feng He nodded eagerly. "I haven’t had it in so long."

The two of them immediately started gathering chestnuts. Because the husks were prickly, picking them up by hand would hurt. So, Lin Jingjing simply used her spiritual power to materialize two pairs of tongs.

This saved time and effort, and spared their hands.

"Sister Lin, this ability of yours to solidify things is so useful. When you’re out and about, you can just make whatever you’re missing," Feng He said happily, looking at the tongs in her hand.

"I think so too," Lin Jingjing agreed. ’But Feng He’s spiritual power is special too,’ she thought.

’As long as she sings using her spiritual power, she can heal people. Of course, the effect isn’t that great right now, but if she keeps working at it, she’ll one day be able to stand there and heal everyone.’

"Yours is amazing too," Lin Jingjing said, giving her a thumbs-up. "You have to keep it up."

Thinking of her own abilities, Feng He smiled. "I will."

Just then, Shi Feng came over carrying a basket. His cheek was scraped by something, and blood was dripping down.

Seeing this, the two of them frowned and walked over. "What happened to your face?"

He had been fine, but the moment they asked, Shi Feng looked aggrieved.

"A chestnut fell from the tree. I was standing nearby and didn’t dodge in time, so I got scratched by the prickly husk," Shi Feng said, pointing at a chestnut on the ground.

His pitiable expression made both of them laugh.

"Aren’t you supposed to be the best at dodging? How did you end up getting wounded by a chestnut?" Feng He asked with a laugh. But her hands didn’t stop moving. She raised a hand to his face, concentrated her power, and slowly healed the wound.
