Slime Evolution

Chapter 249 - The Evolution of Synergy

Although he was very excited to see what changes he had undergone in the real world, logging out of Elysium in the middle of the forest might not be a good idea.

Ever since Lohan “joined civilization,” ceasing to be just a nomadic Slime lost in the forest, both he and Lisa had avoided logging out in random locations, worried about suffering a random attack from something passing by when they logged back in.

Whereas when they logged out in Thalendor or at their Guild Base, such risks no longer existed.

So, instead of just desperately logging out of the game, Lohan and Lisa decided to use this time to better familiarize themselves with their new powers by killing the monsters they encountered while returning to the Guild Base.

Lohan felt the change even before the first battle.

As he attached himself to Lisa’s back again, the activation of his Living Armor form occurred with a fluidity far superior to the previous process. Lohan’s gel now flowed more easily and quickly as it enveloped Lisa’s body, while the process became more comfortable for both of them.

While on Lisa’s back, with her moving through the forest using Spectral Step, Lohan realized that he could now more easily keep up with her speed, clearly perceiving his surroundings and managing to capture the details of things around him even at high speed.

Since Lisa had also leveled up to Level 12, it meant that her Spectral Step, which had already reached 80 m/s at the previous level, could now achieve even higher speeds, which made it a bit difficult even for Lohan to take in their surroundings.

But now, as he adapted even further to it, they didn’t have to look far for a practical test.

On the way back, a pack of Level 13 Ironclaw Bears burst out of a grove, growling at the sight of this strange blue creature that had invaded their territory. In the past, facing three Level 13 monsters while being Level 11 would have required careful planning, but now, at Level 12, they didn’t even worry about it.

Lohan activated the [Parallel Processing Core], splitting his consciousness into independent streams. While keeping [Non-Newtonian Resilience] active across the membrane to protect Lisa, he projected three thin tentacles that struck each bear’s chest mid-leap.

The bears sensed that something was wrong with those tentacles, attacking and tearing at those structures, but contact had already been made and the marks had already been left by Lohan, even as the tentacles were torn from his body.

The crimson marks glowed intensely against the monsters’ thick fur, signaling points of molecular structural failure.

And seeing that, Lisa didn’t hesitate, shooting in that direction like a burst of white and blue energy.

In less than a second, she circled the three bears with her paws enveloped in Spiritual Fire, using her high speed to strike each of the marks with precision.

Although she couldn’t use her full strength, since she was more focused on being fast and avoiding being hit so as not to injure Halon, the effect was devastating.

Thanks to the Stigma, each of Lisa’s strikes dealt double piercing damage, ignoring the natural resistance of the bears’ thick, tough fur and skin as if they were made of dry paper.

The monsters’ bony shells collapsed in explosions of Mana and blood in a matter of moments.

What impressed Lohan most wasn’t the damage, but his own Structural Stability. Even as Lisa changed direction at speeds that would generate unbearable G-forces for a human, Lohan’s gelatinous mass remained firm, absorbing the inertia and keeping the fox balanced with Gravitational Anchoring, which allowed her to accelerate even further.

Furthermore, the constant infusion of vitality through the Weaving Mother now occurred without the drain he had felt in the early levels. He was a biomass and mana battery that powered Lisa in real time, allowing her to maintain peak performance without tiring.

“We wiped out a Level 13 horde in less than ten seconds…” Lisa remarked, stopping abruptly as the fire on her paws dissipated into emerald sparks. “Halon, our synergy… the difference in power is absurd.”

Lohan vibrated with satisfaction, feeling the energy of [Holy Light] purify the remnants of combat from his membrane as he digested some of the monsters to replenish his energy while storing the rest in the Astral Chest.

“Yeah, haha, I didn’t imagine our growth would be like this either! To be honest, when I saw that we’d need 200,000 experience points to level up again, I was a little worried, but feeling this power boost, even though I see the leveling process will take a bit longer now, the difference might not be as big as I thought.” He replied excitedly.

They continued on their way, moving like deities of the forest.

Lohan was even lucky enough to get some evolutions from the monsters he digested, though he didn’t find any of the rare elite monsters.

[Obsidian Exoskeleton Lv 13 → Lv 14]

[Instinctive Perception Lv 17 → Lv 18]

[Superior Magic Core Lv 2 → Lv 3]– Total Mana 220 → 242

[Pack Instinct Lv 11 → Lv 12]

Monsters that were once threats were now merely “fuel” for Lohan’s biomass reservoir.

As they spotted the Guild gates, with Pip diligently guarding the area, the pair was about to let their guard down when suddenly Lohan sensed two sources of Mana approaching rapidly, without even bothering to hide their energy signatures.

Looking in the direction the pair was coming from, Lohan went into combat mode, even though he sensed that these energy signatures weren’t as powerful as his own, and Lisa, noticing Halon’s reaction, did the same, though she didn’t know why this was happening.

Feeling this energy, Lohan realized even more keenly the importance of being able to hide his own energy in the real world, since if he couldn’t control himself, he would be exactly like those two beings approaching, like a beacon of magical energy in the darkness of a world without magic.
