Because she trusted that her father had found legitimate medical care for her.

And that trust, Dante understood with absolute clarity, had been weaponized against her.

"Isabella," Dante said, and his voice was absolutely controlled, "I need you to understand something. I don’t think you’re sick. I don’t think you have an anxiety disorder."

Isabella’s eyes widened.

"What are you saying?" she whispered.

"I’m saying," Dante said carefully, "that I think someone has been deliberately giving you something that your body has become dependent on. And they’ve been disguising it as medical treatment."

"That’s not possible," Isabella said, but her voice was shaking. "My father would never...."

"Your father found the doctor," Dante said. "But that doesn’t mean the doctor is legitimate. It doesn’t mean the medication is what it appears to be."

Isabella looked down at her trembling hands.

"So what you’re saying is... I’m addicted to something I don’t even understand," she said quietly.

"Yes," Dante confirmed.

Isabella’s face crumpled, and she began to cry, not the controlled tears of someone upset, but the deep, wrenching sobs of someone who’d just realized the full scope of her betrayal.

Dante pulled her close and held her against his chest, letting her cry, letting her process the devastating truth of her situation.

"I’m going to find out what’s in those pills," he said into her hair. "I’m going to find out who Dr. Armani really is. And I’m going to find the source of your medication."

"And then what?" Isabella asked, her voice muffled against him.

"And then we deal with it," Dante said absolutely. "We find out who did this to you. We understand why. And then we make sure it never happens to you again."

He held her for a long time, just like that, his arms around her, her body trembling against his.

She was terrified. She was confused. She didn’t understand what was happening to her own body. But she trusted him.

And that trust was everything.

Later that evening, after Isabella had fallen into an exhausted sleep, Dante made a phone call.

"Luca," he said when his second-in-command answered, "I have a name for you. Dr. Armani. Based in Rome. He’s been prescribing medication to Isabella for eight years. Monthly deliveries, but the delivery address has changed multiple times over that period."

"You want me to trace the medication source?" Luca asked.

"I want you to keep tracing it," Dante said. "Find out everything about Dr. Armani. Where his clinic is actually located. Who he really is. Who he works for. Trace every delivery address. Follow the supply chain. I need to know the origin of this medication."

"Understood, boss," Luca said. "I’ll get on it."

"And Luca," Dante added, "this is priority. Isabella’s health is deteriorating. We need answers fast."

"I’m on it," Luca confirmed. "You’ll have updates within 24 hours." ℯℯ𝑙.

The call ended.

Dante stood at the window of the coastal villa, looking out at the dark Mediterranean, understanding that the hunt was expanding in directions he hadn’t anticipated.

Someone had poisoned Isabella.

Someone had done it systematically, carefully, over eight years.

And Dante was going to find out who.

POV: LUCA

*24 HOURS LATER*

Luca had been working non-stop.

Tracing Dr. Armani. Following the medication trail. Investigating the delivery system. Tracking the supply chain.

Nothing.

Dr. Armani’s clinic didn’t exist in any official medical registry in Rome. The name appeared nowhere in official records. The delivery courier company was untraceable, it existed only as a shell company with no real operational history. The supply chain was completely hidden, completely protected.

Someone with serious resources had sealed this information completely.

And Luca had hit a wall he couldn’t breach alone.

He called Dante.

"Boss," Luca said without preamble, "I have nothing. Dr. Armani is a ghost. The clinic doesn’t exist. The delivery system is completely hidden. Whoever set this up went to extreme lengths to ensure the medication source couldn’t be traced."

"How is that possible?" Dante asked.

"Only if the organization behind it has serious resources," Luca said. "We’re talking about an organization with the ability to hide a pharmaceutical operation completely. To intercept medical deliveries. To create a dual-layer pill that fools standard testing. We’re talking about Prometheus Laboratories."

"Then we need to find Prometheus Laboratories," Dante said coldly.

"That’s where we have a problem," Luca said. "Prometheus Laboratories is a ghost organization. They don’t announce themselves. They don’t have public operations. Finding them is nearly impossible with the resources I have access to."

There was a long silence on the other end of the line.

"What are you suggesting?" Dante asked.

"Boss," Luca said carefully, "you need to call Dimitri"

The response was immediate.

"Never," Dante said absolutely.

"Hear me out," Luca said. "This isn’t about the war between you and Dimitri. This is about locating the medication source. And the source can only be Prometheus Laboratories."

"I’m not calling my enemy for help," Dante said.

"You are if it means saving Isabella’s life," Luca said bluntly. "Boss, she’s deteriorating. The withdrawal is getting more dangerous. We need answers fast. And I can’t get them alone."

Dante was quiet.

"Dimitri has resources you don’t have," Luca continued. "Lorenzo controls more than half the black market in Rome. Dimitri controls the other half. Between them, they have access to everything....every supplier, every operation, every hidden facility. If anyone can locate Prometheus Laboratories and trace who’s behind the medication, it’s Dimitri."

"He’s my enemy," Dante said.

"But he’s not your enemy over Isabella," Luca said. "Isabella was supposed to be his fiancée. The marriage was supposed to bind their families. That arrangement is dead now, but it means Dimitri had intelligence on her situation. He likely knows about the medication swap. Or at least has suspicions."

"How would he know?" Dante asked.

"Because Dimitri is smart," Luca said. "I am very sure Dimitri would have questions and answers about her medical history. About her medications. About her vulnerabilities ."

Dante understood what Luca was suggesting.
