Chapter 268: 268. Enter The Dragon

Back at the battlefield, it was as if a deity had appeared. The monsters swarming the wall were violently swept away by the descending storm. Bolts of lightning zapped almost all monsters at once, directly killing off the cannon fodders, first circle and below.

Although the 2nd circle monsters were resilient enough to survive, they were heavily injured. As for the 3rd circlers and above, it was only a minor damage.

Monster corpses landed on the southern plains in the number of hundreds. The violent wind and lightning had made some beyond unrecognizable.

The terror of this attack finally made the remaining monsters scramble, even if a couple thousand still remained alive.

Bors was indeed worthy of the Storm Holder title. However, this skill had also pretty much destroyed a large portion of the south wall.

"Gah!"

He fell on a rubble, having pretty much exhausted his remaining mana and physical energy.

By now, all the generals had already gone to reinforce and command the western post.

"Lord Commander, you must retreat to the city!" The chief strategist flew up to the man and tried to help.

However, Bors refused his hand and stood up with the help of his broadsword, sighing, "It’s too late, Bertram. Run."

Before the strategist could reply, a large shadow draped him and Bors. Immediately after that, a 5th Circle mana pressure pummelled the two men onto the ground.

"You think you can run away after killing so many of my monsters?" A booming male voice accompanied that pressure.

Fierce winds made Bors and Bertram’s clothes flutter as the black dragon descended toward them.

The sudden appearance of Jake had caused not only the royal army, but the whole city to panic. A nearly three hundred feet large creature in the sky had a great visual impact.

Also, the monster wave coming from the west was visible to even ordinary people, this further fueled the panic. However, the sight of another dragon quickly approaching the city was enough to falter the wills of toughest warriors.

"It can’t be..."

"Didn’t they say there was only a Wyvern...?"

"Two dragons! This isn’t a battle we can win!"

The army’s morale as well as people’s faith wavered, directly affecting the divine shield deployed by the church.

Right now, the soldiers remaining at the broken south wall had mostly collapsed due to Jake’s passive demodragon aura.

Bertram, despite being the chief strategist, was only a 3rd Circle mage. He was restricted by the mana pressure. Thus, only Bors was capable of putting up some resistance.

Unfortunately, Jake didn’t give him any time to recover.

"Killing you will be too wasteful. I need a substitute for my Hell Knight." He sneered as he activated his favourite skill.

Degeneration Halo!

This was the second time Jake had used this skill on a 5th Circler. This time though, as someone of the same rank, he wouldn’t risk the chance of the skill backfiring.

If Bors still had the energy to battle, the skill would’ve had a moderate chance of outright failing. But now, it was only a matter of time before Jake obtained another powerful subordinate.

Meanwhile, loud booms resounded on the other side as Yvonne directly used her strongest breath attack to tear open a hole on the western wall.

The explosion it caused released her innate draconic fire in the surroundings, burning hundreds of warriors and mages stationed there.

In the military, there was only one 4th Circle mage remaining. Unfortunately, he alone wasn’t enough to patch the hole in the defensive arrays.

Roaaaarr!

With an earthshaking cry, the dragon girl went on a rampage, using large-scale spells and complementing those with her wing attacks.

Truly, an aerial tank like a dragon was a nightmare for foot soldiers. Entire battalions were eliminated by the rampaging dragon, forcing the four remaining generals to jointly defend her attacks.

"It’s no use! At this rate, she’ll annihilate us before those monsters even reach here." General Walris hurriedly said, using an aura blade to cleave a volcanic boulder falling toward him.

"So? You want to run?" A different general flickered beside him, attacking Yvvone with flashy sword moves.

However, this only caused her to feel irritated.

"Pest." Yvonne’s voice thundered as she turned her head and flew down at breakneck speed.

Coming less than a hundred feet from the two generals, she clenched her claw. The surrounding mana thickened as it formed a large, red replica of that claw, tightening on the generals.

The two knew that their defense wouldn’t be able to save them from a direct 5th circle attack. Thus, they hurriedly used their strongest attacking moves to counter the draconic claw.

Unfortunately, their moves weren’t explosive enough. Although the focused sword strikes did cut the claw, those cuts couldn’t prevent the claw from tightening on the two generals.

Utter despair shrouded their faces for the first time. But before they were crushed, the claw began to struggle. It couldn’t clench fully, giving them a window of time to evade.

"Crimson dragon... How did you escape from Tartus?" Archbishop Joseph appeared on the battlefield, deeply frowning.

His appearance caused the despairing soldiers to let out cheers. As long as His Grace Joseph and Lord Bors acted, it wasn’t impossible to slay the dragons.

A glimmer of hope appeared on the minds of every warrior and mage.

"I remember you, human." Yvonne’s eyes were filled with hatred. "You were there when I was chained..."

"You had sinned too much. We should’ve slain you back then, but God teaches mercy. Who would’ve thought someone would dare to release you again?" Joseph sighed before resolutely raising his staff.

"Evil dragon! You still don’t repent after all those years!"

"Hypocrite!" Yvonne roared, breathing out thick sulphuric flames.

As another battle between 5th Circle powerhouses ensued, the soldiers below hastily retreated back to the walls.

The generals however, chose to help Joseph, putting Yvonne at a slight disadvantage.

As the battle went on, the first wave of monsters also arrived outside the western wall, engaging with the foot soldiers who were in a disarray.

If the crimson dragon hadn’t attacked, these thousands of royal soldiers could definitely hold out against the monsters. Unfortunately, their rigorous formation was broken. Having suffered defeat down south, the soldiers also had less morale.

On the battlefield, one could see hellhounds ripping men’s heads off of their torso and orc cavalries slicing their way toward the wall’s hole. Gnolls, lizardmen and kobolds alike began clearing multiple squadrons.

The flesh-eating slimes made by Irene were a nightmare to any warrior. Unable to find the cores of such creatures, hundreds of 1st and even some 2nd circle soldiers succumbed to them.

Bug monsters like poison centipides, mud scorpions, sleep moths and metal mantises devastated thousands with their cruel and bizarre abilities.

But among them, the most eye-catching ones were the demonic spiders and the demonic ants!

At their master’s call, the queens had brought their entire colonies to attack. Varieties of spider and ant-type monsters created systemic formations, completely unlike the chaotic tribal monsters.

These insectoids had a clear hierarchical structure which made them way more efficient. Even the royal warriors weren’t expecting to be met with such discipline on the battlefield.

After about ten minutes, even though there were casualties on both sides, one could tell that the monsters held an upper hand.

If this went on, the kingdom’s army would be truly annihilated.

"Look!" At this moment, a gold-armored figure flew from the south, catching everyone’s attention.
