Sin System: Demonic Harem After Reincarnation
Chapter 264. The Early Battle (4)
Chapter 264: 264. The Early Battle (4)
More than half an hour had passed since Bors and Issac began fighting. Although both were somewhat exhausted, neither side seemed to be gaining an advantage.
Looking toward the walls, he could see that the magic cannons were being quickly redirected.
At this rate, if the monsters started climbing the walls, they’d be blasted in batches. Even if the 3rd and 4th Circlers had some brains, the rest of the monsters were only acting on their instincts.
These mindless creatures could be forced into attacking the enemy but they couldn’t be tactically controlled like a trained army.
Making the monsters temporarily back off would be near impossible at this stage unless the dungeon master himself ordered.
As long as these monsters had the desire to kill, they wouldn’t stop. Since their numbers were still in multiple thousands, they didn’t fear anything.
This lack of fear, this reckless impetus was exactly what Bertram, the chief strategist, wanted to exploit!
"Load up the Cannons!" Standing beside the strategist, General Walris ordered confidently.
This change on the southern walls didn’t go unnoticed. Minerva, Edgar, Tiara and Linda alike paused simultaneously, sensing something was amiss.
Obviously, Issac also realized that the magic crystals had already been supplied while he was distracted by Bors.
Since the dark mages on his side weren’t able to summon the same spirit twice in a day, another round of intense firing would land on the monster wave.
This time, it would be at a much closer range and without a central shield like the frost turtle.
Something had to be done about those cannons!
Issac suddenly flew up, avoiding the royal commander. Transforming into his second form, he rapidly approached the city wall.
The court mages, responsible for the aerial defense, were busy fending off flocks of demonic crows and couldn’t respond in time.
Bors immediately realized that the hell knight wanted to create an opening for the monsters by destroying the cannons. He wasn’t going to let this demon succeed.
But at this moment, a dark magic circle appeared directly beneath his feet. Bony hands reached out from the ground and firmly caught his legs.
4th Circle Necromantic Spell, Grasp of the Depths!
Minerva acted quick. She’d been keeping tabs on this battle between the top powerhouses. Even though she didn’t know why Issac suddenly left, she knew what to do.
The more time she bought for the Hell Knight, the better it would be.
As the bony hands began pulling Bors down, he didn’t panic in the slightest. Snorting in disdain, he simply swept his large sword downward.
An arc of lighting accompanied that swipe, cutting half of the bony hands at once. Another casual swipe and he’d be free.
In that few seconds, the beautiful necromancer calmly lifted her staff and cast another control spell.
Iron Maiden!
The surrounding mana rapidly condensed into a grid of long bones which looked like a prison construct. In no time at all, these bones were shaped into two parts of a coffin, which featured an ominous demon head at the top.
Whoosh!
Bors couldn’t be bothered to get tangled with this necromancer and directly swiped upward as the coffin descended.
A loud metallic sound rang in the battlefield which was finally starting to get some sunlight. The white and black bone coffin filled with dangerous spikes seemed to contain the royal commander for a mere second.
However, a small tornado formed around the Storm Holder as he clenched his left palm. This directly ripped the coffin into multiple pieces as if it was made out of paper.
Minerva felt a sharp pain in her head because of having her spell disrupted. She quickly retreated on instinct, knowing full well that it was impossible for her to stall him any longer.
Within these ten or so seconds that Minerva bought, two nearby dark mages, Edgar and Linda managed to surround the 5th Circle Radiant Knight.
Ice Crystalization!
Disorientation!
Nature’s Retaliation!
Earthen Binds!
Four control spells landed on Bors simultaneously, firmly preventing him from leaving the battle. Even if he was a rank higher, two elven druids and two dark mages were not easy to defeat.
If Bors was in his peak condition, he wouldn’t be really bothered by such pests. But after battling with the Hell Knight, his energy was clearly spent. Now, if he wasn’t careful and also let Minerva join in, he might fall here.
While five combatants were keeping the royal commander occupied, Issac had already reached the city walls and damaged two magic cannons near the middle-south.
His arrival caused the northwest and northeastern powerhouses to temporarily abandon their post. Left with no choice, they hastily reinforced the southern walls alongside General Walris.
Four high-rank Warriors and the last remaining 4th Circle military mage concentrated their efforts on holding back the Hell Knight who moved around erratically.
Under the fire of thousands of archers, even he had to be careful. However, now that he was battling nearby, even his casual moves could cause immense destruction.
Even though the magic cannons were made from tough alloys and were further enchanted, they wouldn’t be able to withstand for much longer.
The situation was even more intense down at the southern gate. Swarmed by the monster wave, the reinforced door was showing signs of collapse.
The soldiers standing behind the shut gate held their spears pointed forward, their hands trembling as they heard the foreboding bangs.
Some of the aerial monsters had already flown over. Thankfully, the mage teams were quick to kill them off.
Outside the wall, two court mages at the 4th Circle were desperately maintaining the defensive line, holding off the likes of Ash, the dark knight, and the elven moonlight swordsmen Robert and Lexia.
The court mages were being continuously healed by teams of 3rd circle priests and priestesses, who stood protected behind the defensive line.
The battalion led by the 4th Circle guardians teamed up with the rest of the soldiers on ground to fend off the dark mages under Tiara’s command.
This hooded woman would look back at the battlefield behind her from time to time, keeping herself aware of any sudden changes on Bors’ side.
If the storm holder suddenly went berserk without caring for his life, she and the remaining summoners would have to prematurely conjure the fire serpent.
’Lord Issac hasn’t given any orders...’ She looked up after casting a fire hail spell.
Actually, her side had five dark mages. Even if they primarily specialized in summoning spells, it wasn’t much trouble to deal with two 4th Circle Guardians and a bunch of 3rd Circle Church Warriors.
The reason her team was holding back was to save mana. Casting regular spells cost way less than maintaining a summoning circle needed for a greater spirit.
After another half an hour, the mage team would be in the optimal stage to summon again. The only problem was that the other two mages had gone to stall the royal army commander. They might not have sustained their mana reserves when the time for summoning came.
It was possible to use a pentagonal or hexagonal magic array for summoning a 5th circler, but that would be too burdensome for the summoners, causing them to be exhausted in less than fifteen minutes.
Unless there was no choice, the summoners would absolutely not try such a risky move.
In the midst of her thoughts, Tiara suddenly narrowed her eyes. She looked toward a bastion whose three cannons had been damaged.
As the leading summoner, she keenly sensed a small spatial fluctuation inside that bastion’s wall tower.
Temporarily backing from the battle, she muttered a few chants in secret and gazed at the wall. Her left eye glittered slightly, instantly giving her a magnified view of the wall area.
Among the rows of archers, auxiliary mages, standby warriors and frenzied aerial monsters - an old man in a white and gold holy attire stood out.
On one hand, he held a long white staff with colorful inlaid gems while keeping another hand behind his back.
Leisurely floating a few inches above the wide wall, he seemed to be concealed by a certain force. None of the soldiers nearby noticed his presence.
Suddenly, he sensed a gaze and tilted his head toward the battlefield.
"What a perceptive lass," Archbishop Joseph smiled in an amicable manner before casting his gaze towards the generals fighting the Hell Knight.
