Chapter 385: Legacy of Ancient Saint
The old man waved his hands.
Two blinding beams of light shot from his ethereal hands and struck the foreheads of the two youths.
boom--!!
The instant Rhain closed his eyes, a vast and boundless flow of information, like the Milky Way pouring down from the heavens, surged wildly into his mind!
After a brief moment of dizziness, Rhain’s brain quickly began to analyze this vast amount of knowledge.
It was Alchemy!
Mountains of ancient pill formulas, lost extraction methods, and intricate flame control techniques flooded his consciousness.
But it wasn’t just the formulas that shocked him; it was the realization of the old man’s true identity.
Beyond the Grandmaster rank was the Emperor Rank Alchemist—a title currently held by only one man in the Solathane Dynasty.
But beyond the Emperor rank... was the Venerable Rank Alchemist.
This old man in black robes was one of the most revered Alchemy Venerables of his era!
While the raw theoretical knowledge wasn’t as flawlessly perfect as the knowledge directly granted by the System, it contained something entirely different and equally invaluable: the old man’s centuries of practical, hands-on experience.
The microscopic adjustments, thousands of failed refinements, unique improvisations, the trial-and-error wisdom of a Venerable Alchemist, all of this was simply beyond any value.
Hours passed in the silent hall.
Finally, both Lyra and Rhain slowly opened their eyes, exhaling long breaths of turbid air.
Rhain had completely digested the vast ocean of knowledge.
’Alchemy Venerable...’
He murmured inwardly, a bright glint flashing deep within his dark grey eyes.
This title did not even exist within the borders of the Solathane Dynasty.
The knowledge he had just assimilated placed his theoretical understanding on par with the greatest Alchemy Venerables of the Central Continent.
However, Rhain was not blinded by the sheer magnitude of this fortune.
He completely knew his own limits.
Theoretical knowledge was one thing, but execution was another.
With his current cultivation firmly capped at the Core Formation Realm, his raw essence and Soul Power were simply insufficient to materialize this ultimate knowledge.
If he attempted to refine a Venerable-Grade pill right now, the backlash would instantly destroy his spiritual sea.
Even with his newly augmented understanding, he could only safely refine a select few Emperor-Grade pills.
Reaching the Venerable grade would still require a long period of time.
Furthermore, there was one more glaring problem.
This knowledge has flaws!
Unlike the flawless truths directly implanted into his consciousness by the System, this inheritance was the product of a man.
It was forged through centuries of trial, error, and human bias. It contained the old man’s bad habits, his miscalculations in elemental balancing, and the inherent imperfections of a human legacy.
He needed to find fix them one by one.
However, even with these minute flaws, the staggering volume of ancient pill formulas, lost extraction methods, and precise flame control techniques had elevated him to an entirely different dimension.
Without a sliver of a doubt, Rhain was now the undisputed greatest alchemist in the entire Solathane Dynasty.
Beside him, Lyra had also stirred.
When she opened her crimson eyes, she looked overjoyed, her eyes shimmering with a look of ecstasy.
Lyra hastily stood up, smoothed her robes and bowed deeply at a perfect ninety-degree angle toward the remnant soul.
"Thank you, Senior!" Lyra spoke with genuine gratitude. "This junior will never forget this grace!"
Rhain also pushed himself up from the white jade floor.
He brushed the dust from his dark robes and respectfully cupped his fists, offering a solemn bow to the old man.
It was only logical to show the utmost respect to a man who had just handed over a literal treasure trove of lifelong effort.
"I thank the Senior," Rhain stated sincerely.
Hovering in the air, the old man’s remnant soul looked down at the two bowing youths.
A benevolent smile graced his withered, translucent features, and the old man slowly gave an approving nod.
"I have imparted my martial and combat inheritance to you, little girl," the old man smiled at Lyra. "And to you, young man, I have given my lifelong alchemical inheritance and soul arts."
The old man then waved his hand.
A silver ring slipped off the finger of his physical corpse and floated directly into Rhain’s palm.
"Take my spatial ring," the old man sighed wearily, his translucent form beginning to flicker like a dying candle. "I have been dead for many centuries. The passage of time in this sealed domain has eroded much of my wealth. Most of the pills, herbs, and weapons I carried have long withered into dust."
Rhain swept his Spiritual Sense into the ring.
The old man was right. The spatial dimension inside was as vast as a small city, yet it was painfully barren.
Mountains of what had once been priceless herbs and divine pills were now nothing more than piles of useless grey ash.
However, Rhain’s perception quickly locked onto three distinct items that had somehow withstood the merciless rot of time.
With a flick of his wrist, Rhain withdrew all three objects.
The first was a weathered scroll radiating an ancient aura.
"That," the old man explained, his eyes lingering on the scroll, "is a martial art I acquired from a highly dangerous ancient ruin in the Central Continent. It is incomplete, and even with my talent, I was never able to master it. But I assure you, its origins are terrifyingly profound. Try to practice it, Rhain, but do not let it become a demon in your heart if you fail to grasp it."
Rhain nodded, carefully storing the manual away.
He then looked at the second item in his hand.
It was a broken fragment of a sword blade.
Rhain’s dark grey eyes locked onto the unknown metal. He stared at it for a very long time, his brow furrowing deeply.
A bizarre, inexplicable sense of familiarity crashed over him.
He felt an intense connection to this broken sword, but his mind drew a complete blank as to where he had seen its likeness before.
But just as Rhain was trying to piece the memory together—
Buzz—! Buzz—! Buzz—!
Rhain’s own spatial ring suddenly began to vibrate violently.
Before Rhain could even channel his essence to suppress it, a streak of light shot out of his ring entirely without his command!
Swoosh!
It was another broken piece of a sword, exactly same as the one that belonged to the old man.
The fragment flew into the air, instantly gravitating toward the broken sword piece Rhain was holding from the old man’s loot.
The two fragments hovered in the air, vibrating frantically and circling each other with a high-pitched, shriek, exactly like two long-lost brothers reuniting after millennia apart.
Rhain stood frozen in utter shock.
The translucent figure of the old man had an equally flabbergasted expression, as if he had seen a ghost in the broad daylight.
Both Rhain and the old remnant soul stared at the dancing sword fragments, their eyes wide with identical look of stupification.
Simultaneously, the nineteen-year-old youth and the ancient Alchemy Venerable looked at each other and blurted out the exact same question:
"Why do you have this sword?!"
