Suzy glanced at him, hesitated for a moment, then responded, “Yes.”

It was best to map out the entire area. That way, if trouble ever arose, making a quick escape would be much easier. Before starting her actual plan, she needed to familiarize herself with the entire P City Base.

“Do you have any plans for tomorrow?”

“I’m going to walk around the base tomorrow,” Suzy said.

Mark offered, “I was planning to explore the base tomorrow as well. Want to go together?”

Suzy didn’t agree. A flicker of resistance crossed her face, which Mark caught immediately.

Rather than feeling hurt, Mark said considerately, “If it’s inconvenient for you, forget I asked. I can look around on my own tomorrow.”

Suzy nodded and instructed, “Then stay safe out there.”

Hearing her warning made Mark feel oddly unsettled. Is she really not coming with me? he thought to himself, though he didn’t press the matter further. “I know. You take care tomorrow, too.”

“Let’s both call it an early night,” Suzy said.

“Alright,” Mark agreed.

The RV had two beds, one near the front and one at the back. During their trip, the two of them had never slept at the same time. They had taken turns driving—one resting while the other drove—and spent most of their time sitting in the passenger seat.

Suzy rarely slept on the RV’s beds, and the same went for Mark; he had only laid down earlier today because of his injury.

This was the first time both of them were resting in the RV at the same time. Fortunately, there were two beds: one above the cab at the front, and one in the rear. The rear bed was wider and much more convenient.

Mark took the initiative and pointed toward the alcove bed above the cab. “I’ll sleep here tonight.”

Suzy didn’t stand on ceremony with him and walked toward the back.

She didn’t rush into bed. Instead, she went into the bathroom, locked the door behind her, and slipped into her pocket space. She took a wonderfully comfortable hot shower inside before stepping back out.

Having gone without a proper wash for so long, her body had been coated in a mix of sweat and dust. However, while they were on the road, Suzy hadn’t been in the mood to bathe and had simply let it be. In the post-apocalyptic world, going a week or ten days without a shower was completely normal; anyone bathing daily would actually be the odd one out.

When Suzy opened the bathroom door, steam billowed out, carrying a subtle scent of body wash into the air.

Mark was lying in bed. As the draft brought the fragrance over to linger at the tip of his nose, it made him feel inexplicably restless. He turned his head to glance in her direction, catching only the view of her slender back and delicate shoulders. Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, making her look exceptionally soft and fragile.

He looked away instantly and closed his eyes tightly.

At that moment, Suzy felt a faint sensation and looked back at him. Seeing Mark lying quietly in bed, seemingly asleep, she didn’t think much of it.

She walked over to the rear bed, pulled the curtain shut, and lay down.

The moment she settled in, she caught the faint trace of scent Mark had left behind—a faint, refreshing, and unfamiliar aroma. Suzy had never smelled anything quite like it before; it seemed like the fragrance of a plant, though she couldn’t tell which one. Smelling it more closely, it felt like a botanical scent laced with a hint of floral notes.

This subtle scent actually suits him quite well, Suzy thought.

She rolled over, wrapped herself in the quilt, and slowly closed her eyes.

She had a busy day tomorrow. She had an appointment with Jenny, who was coming to find her. As for how Jenny intended to locate her, Suzy had no idea. Regardless, Jenny had told her to wait in place and said she would come to her parking spot tomorrow, likely having some means of her own. Once she arrived, Jenny would give her a tour of the entire P City Base and help her get accustomed to the environment.

At the thought of this, Suzy let out a yawn. She needed to get to sleep early.

She closed her eyes, completely unconcerned about the security of her immediate surroundings. Now that they were inside the base, a baseline level of discipline and safety was guaranteed.

Besides, Suzy had noticed quite a few security cameras installed around the parking area. If anyone tried to pull anything shifty here, they would quickly be caught on camera. It was unlikely anyone would be that brazen.

More importantly, even if danger approached, the RV system would automatically alert her. Once switched to night mode, the RV system enabled an automatic perimeter monitoring feature. If any stranger lurked about or approached suspiciously, it would send an alert directly into her mind.

With the system active, she didn’t need to worry about anyone approaching their vehicle to cause trouble in the middle of the night. Furthermore, the RV was still disguised; unless someone was utterly bored, no normal person would pay any mind to a vehicle that looked so beat-up.

She slept soundly without dreaming. It was the best rest she had gotten in a long time.

The same went for Mark.

When the alarm clock by the bed rang, Suzy hit the stop button, stretched, and got out of bed. Mark happened to wake up at the same time. Meeting each other’s eyes, both of them smiled.

“Morning,” Suzy said.

“Morning,” Mark replied.

Suzy fetched some water and went outside to brush her teeth and wash up, stretching her limbs afterward. There still weren’t many vehicles around, just a scattered few. However, three or four additional cars had parked nearby since yesterday. The occupants inside hadn’t woken up yet, making Suzy the only person visible across the entire parking lot.

After brushing her teeth, Suzy climbed back into the RV, where Mark had just finished washing up in the bathroom.

For breakfast, Suzy casually grabbed two bags of bread from the cabinet, handed one to Mark, and tossed him a bottle of a drink.

The two sat at the dining table, eating their breakfast in quiet comfort.

Suzy looked at Mark. “What time are you heading out?”

He swirled the bottle in his hand and replied, “I’ll go after I finish this. How about you?”

“I still have to wait a bit,” Suzy said.

Mark fell silent for a brief moment, suddenly realizing something. “If we both leave, what happens to the RV?”
