Chapter 89 - Sunset
"Please someone save me." She let out a cry of desperation. She couldn't take it anymore. She couldn't take this hell anymore. She wants to be free of it already!
As Verona sank in desperation she gave up on her life. She wants to die… yes she wants to die but a painless death. She doesn't want to be eaten alive by zombies and then turns to one of them herself!
Verona had watched a lot of zombie series and was basing her thoughts based on the same. Little did she know that it was not the case. The two men who were attacked by these so-called zombies are indeed dead but they had not turned into zombies.
But, she could only freeze in fright as she watched those zombies approach her. The fear in her heart had diminished her capacity to think! Not to mention that her field of vision was completely encompassed by the score of zombies.
The events of her life flashed across her eyes as she felt that her life was close to its end. What had she wanted? What were her goals? She wanted a casual life free of worries in which she could pursue her hobbies but even this was too much to ask for.
"Friends and everyone, I am coming back to you." She whispered as she closed her eyes shut.
That was when Klautz's visage and his words flashed across her brain.
[You have to live for the sake of your friends so that their deaths are not meaningless!]
Her heart beat surged all of a sudden. It wasn't as such Klautz's words that caused this but rather the thought of her friends led her to feel an inseparable pang in her heart.
A sudden sense of hurry caused her to open her shut eyes. The zombies were marching towards her.
She bit her lips. For a moment she wasn't sure if she should follow her brain or her heart.
"I cannot die here!" She made her resolve. She could understand how desperate her situation was. Her brain told her to cut off her wrists using something sharp and die. But for the sake of her friends, she cannot die here.
Adrenaline gushed into her system as her legs heated up. Her eyes fell on the anchor of the ship. She didn't even give it a second thought. If she dies, she dies; if she lives then so be it; but she cannot give up.
She could only rely on her stats to save her here and fair enough her predictions weren't wrong. With the impact that her body felt on colliding with the structure of the ship as she grasped onto the anchor's rope, she was able to save herself from it. None of her leg bones had broken.
*Splash*
Water splashed in all directions as she landed on her two feet on the swamp waters. She ducked at the last moment owing to her momentum. Luckily for her, the land below was soft enough for her to have a cushioned landing. She looked up at the zombies that were chasing behind her.
"Did I escape?" She asked with expectation in her voice. But all she saw were the zombies coming to the edge of the ship and falling off on the swamp water. Their legs and body parts were dislocated in weird directions but that wasn't enough to stop them. Their eyes were still fixed at Verona as if they wanted to chase after her.
*splash* *splash* They fell on top of each other as they formed a zombie pile.
"I guess not… they are zombies indeed!" Verona didn't wait to check; neither did she turn back to figure out whether they were still chasing her.
"Screech!" Their screams were enough to signify that they were indeed after her life.
*splash* *splash* *splash*
She tried her best to counter the frictional force offered by the waters. It felt as if she was pulled behind with every step she took. As she ran the water made splashing sounds with her every step. The zombies behind her were no better but they were as fast as Verona.
"I will live. I will live. I will live. I will live!" Verona shouted like crazy. She repeated herself multiple times to not let herself sink in desperation. She wants to have hope even if there weren't any.
She found a mangrove tree in front of her and decided to climb it to escape their reach. But alas once she got to the top she realized that the zombies could climb too. She watched as they sunk their fangs and teeth onto the tree bark as they pulled themselves up.
'No use'
To her horror, she jumped off the tree and began sprinting again! The zombies too gave up on climbing and began to chase after her. It was like they were drawn to her like magnet. Now, this was just a game of run and chase.

*slash*
With another swing of his sword Klautz killed yet another foolish man who came in his way. He had warned the man but that man had taken his threats as an excuse for Klautz winnings for fear that he might lose against him. But he couldn't be more wrong! And this time he had to pay for his miscalculation for his life.
With his sword slash, blood spurted on his face.
*splash*
The body fell motionless as it splashed the swamp waters everywhere. Klautz wiped the blood on his face with his sleeve.
Klautz had the same goal as ever. He had to defeat the rest of the golems; but the sun was about to set.
After the sun disappears into the horizon, one could only rely on the moonlight or one's tools for illumination. This won't be a problem for Klautz as his eyes could adjust to the moonlight easily from his years of experience in his field. But would that be enough?
