Chapter 236 - More Danger
The sound of a bell resounded in her ears… the familiar voice that was one of her worst nightmares.
'Don't tell me.'
Her pupils shook. What else await her after this? The answer already lied in her heart. She felt an instinctive urge to pierce the blade in her hand in her very heart and end her struggles. At least that would make her death much less paiful.
But she stopped as her hands shook.
'No… I have to see this through.'
She mightr be helpless but she wasn 't a coward. Had it been the case she would have killed herself the day her mother was killed.
The weapon in her hand fell to the floor as it began to eat dust. Little by little his grinding companions too left her along with the guard just like the weapon that had left her hand. She was left all alone in a forest adorned by horns.
*Tring* *Tring*
Every time the sound of bell rang it caused a chill down her spine. She notice a man walking towards her. In the shadows of the canopy his figure was blurry but Evelyn had her own guesses as to who he was, since he carried the same omnious bell as 'him'.
But what she saw next from the little sunlight that seeped through the canopies blowed her mind.
It was Klautz.
With a decapitated head in one hand as he held onto its hair he walked closer and closer. Blood dripped from the torsoless head as it trickled down its neck. Behind him Klautz left a traiil of blood as if to make a decleration of war to the ninjas.
He looked like the doom of the ninjas indeed.
Klautz smirked as he gave the bell another shake. It was quite a fancy toy to play with.
[Bell of Skimps
Effect: Bell defies the law of sound. Every time the bell is rung everyone within 5 km radius would hear the sound of it at equal intensity while those outside the 5 km radius would hear none.]
Evelyn who was awestruck by the site switched her gaze from the dangling head and Klautz who was ringing the bell. Indeed the bell had once belonged to the man who now didn't even have a torso.
Evelyn couldn't help but mistake the ringing of the bell with the advent of his steps. But she was proven wrong.
*thud*
Evelyn fell to the floor on her knees. She had been on high aleat at all tmes but now that she knew that the danger had disappeared her body loosened up from all angles.
'Finally'
Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief. No words were enough to explain the turmoil in her heart.
She clenched onto the helm of her dress as she wordlessly stared below collecting her thoughts and calming herself down.
It was then…
Klautz threw the head towards her. The head rolled in the ground painting it with its own blood as it finally stopped after collinding with her legs.
"Your gift as I promised."
Evelyn's pupils shook as she held onto it. Her hands were dyed in blood.
"Won't you kill me?" she asked.
Klautz rolled his eyes.
"Definitely not."
Klautz claimed. The reason why klautz wanted to kil Evelyn was simple. It was becasuse she would have caused a great rift in Klautz growth and she been alive and continued with her manhunt. But now with things resolved Klautz had no plans to kill her.
"You have helped me a lot."
The day Evelyn had attacked Klautz back the bonus stage, she was an ignorant enemy.
The day Evelyn that was trapped by Klautz at the [Ice Post], she was but a pawn in Klautz hands meant to be used to reach his goals. Not to mention that the very reason why she got into this mess was because she was being used as a pawn by the ninjas village in the first place.
But the day, that she aided Klautz in meeting his goals. She had become an ally. Klautz had killed too many allies in his past life for the sake of his mission. He didn't want to kill more.
Klautz had indeed planned to ambush the ninjas but it would have been possible with his lesser numbers. It was because Evelyn had successfully distracted their leader that the ninjas were rendered hopeless. Without the leader to order them they were but fools with vegetables for their minds. They had no will of their own.
From the very start Evelyn was Klautz's greatest variable in meeting his goals. Klautz wouldn't even have trusted her. But she had met her role gracefully.
Evelyn nodded fervently. She would have been disappointed if she was killed after ging through so many troubles.
"Thanks for forgiving me."
Klautz rolled his eyes. He had never really cared about tje death of random strangers. He had little to no sense of justice.
But he chose not to clear the misunderstanding and leave it as it was.
A beautiful smile blossomed on her face.
But seeing her smile, Klautz just felt the need to crush it.
"It's not over yet," Klautz claimed. "I might have killed the one who was after all of this. But he had even a bigger organization backing him up. And they know about your identity and your powers. They would surely link their ninjas being wiped up with you. And they have every intel in the world to find you no matter where you hide. Though I am not really sure what they are planning to do with the intelligence. They could very much choose to assassinate you, or maybe kill in daylight even. Or they might choose to trap you instead. I am not sure what their actual plans are. But it could also result in them causing no harm to you but that's just a speculation."
