Chapter 198 - Laws Of Hell
Klautz eyes traveled across the room. The bloodstain on the bed was getting larger and larger as blood tickled across her neck. It proved how fresh the injury was. But Klautz didn't dare touch any of it. There was no point in calling for trouble.
"Verona, can you call for guards? We need to inform them of the murder," Klautz asked in a soothing tone. A sad smile formed on his lips portraying an emotion he had long forgot.
Klautz was sure that the guards would sense the smell of blood sooner or later and wasn't really concerned about their arrival. More than anything he wanted Verona to move away from the scene. The longer she was staying in the room the paler her face got.
Verona nodded.
"Okay," she whispered, not sure if any other response would have been right.
Pulling clothes from her inventory, she got inside them down followed by storming off the room.
Klautz sighed as he watched her go. His attention turned to the fresh dead.
"Not a ninja for sure," he whispered under his breath.
The dead body that slept in front of him wasn't assassinated. It was murdered instead.
'Real-world assassinations don't work this way.'
The ninjas never let a single drop of blood be shed when they assassinate their target. They are aware and well trained in the arts of internal bleeding.
Had someone claimed today's event as an assassination Klautz would have passed it off as a joke. The woman who was killed neither seemed politically important nor was she a powerhouse.
Real world ninjas when on assassination missions can't really allow blood to flow. For there are many others in hell who can sense the smell of blood as good as Klautz.
Klautz was rather an anomaly in that he could sense it with such low stats. But normally, higher the stats higher will be their senses. And there were many in hell with stats much higher than Klautz.
Leaving any traces of blood would be practically asking to get caught and sign a warrant of their death. Getting caught alive could also lead to the failure of their missions.
'Is it because of my low stats?' Klautz thought.
Klautz frowned. He was unable to come up with a reason as to how he could miss such an important event. There should not have been any mistake on his part!
*Sigh*
Klautz sighed, and scanned around the room for footsteps. But alas there were none! It was like a ghost itself had come to kill the target.
What reason could the ghost have? There should be none if Klautz's judgements were right..
"Must be a personal friction," Klautz whispered.
It was then…
*Bam*
The door shot open as several guards barged in. Gozoto too was among them. Verona came from behind them as she walked up to Klautz.
In such a situation, being in Klautz's vicinity was the only thing that calmed down her heart the most. Her face was looking down as she was expectant of his warmth.
Klautz wrapped his arm around her shoulder as he smiled wryly.
"Shit!" Gozoto screamed as his eyes shot out wide.
"An …," he was about to say something but Klautz's presence made him stop.
Klautz could only raise his brows.
Gozoto glared at Klautz for some reason but all Klautz could do was shrug.
"You! What are you doing here?" he asked.
Klautz sighed.
'The drama begins. This is the stuff that I don't like. But I gotta make the best of the situation.'
Klautz would never consider the killer to be a good assassin due to the way he has chosen to kill his target. But he couldn't put aside the fact that was able to do what even professional ninjas could not. Klautz could only wonder what kind of anomaly it was.
It is of the unknown that humans fear the most. Once everything about the unknown is revealed humans have always found a way to curb it to their will. Klautz too wished to do the same.
"I was the one who first encountered the dead body. Of course, Verona was with me too. So I sent her to call out to you guys."
Klautz turned towards Verona with a questioning look.
"You didn't explain?" he asked.
But all Verona did was shake her head in worry.
*Sigh*
Klautz turned towards Gozoto again.
'Well, can't expect her to do it in that state.'
"Look I was just spending some time with Verona here, you can see that for yourself. And when it comes to the dead body I checked for footprints, but there were none. No one else should have come in the room either if not from the window. But I am guessing it's suicide since there are no clues to anything else," Klautz continued. "But the weirdest thing is, there are no suicide weapons around her either."
Klautz didn't lie. The smell of their love was still rich in their air along with the smell of blood. Gozoto could only frown as he sniffed around. But he couldn't rule out the fact that Klautz was indeed a suspect.
Klautz too had seen this coming from far away. And he knew he couldn't avoid suspicion. The moment he failed to perceive the entrance of the killer in the room was the moment he was doomed for this! At last, he regrets not following Verona's suggestions.
But he had no fear of it either. If at all he considers himself lucky to have witnessed such a craft. His eyes shimmered in the same way as Akihiko's did when he had seen his footwork back at the check ups.
Gozoto's eyes squinted.
Klautz's words indeed had weight. Suicides in hell were as much a common scenario as deaths and murders. It was indeed believable since there were no clues of murder.
