Chapter 112 - Most Important Rule
"Shouldn't we go and look for him?" Verona complained yet again. She couldn't stop being restless. How could she leave an ally of hers in danger?
"No!" Selena shook her head. "This is the fifth time, but he is fine and when he comes out he will definitely come back here looking for us. We can't be gone while he would be looking for us here, now can we?"
Selena could understand Verona's worry. But, how could Selena be moved around according to her whims? Last time she had agreed to her suggestions and a whole forest caught on fire! Even then! Even then, Verona refused to leave.
It was only after Selena made desperate attempts to persuade her that she agreed to leave. Verona was always weak to persuasion and Selena had given her several 'reasons' as to why they should leave in order to persuade her lest she herself would have been burnt to crisp.
But even though one might say 'reasons' all she gave was excuses to save her own sorry ass. She didn't want to be burned alive!
*Thud*
Another burning tree fell. The sudden crash along with the thundering noise that it brought along caused them to squeak in surprise.
Selena turned around as an obvious response to it. What she found was Klautz leaping across a burning tree used as a bridge across the water body. He moved swiftly and fast enough that the fire couldn't catch onto his legs.
Selena's eyes shot out wide in surprise. Her wait had come to an end.
'He's alive,' Selena couldn't help but have a vibrant smile as she felt all of her worries fading away.
She ran towards the edge of the lake only to hug Klautz who jumped off the burning spruce. She wrapped him up within her warm embrace. She gripped him as if her life depended on it and fair enough her life did indeed depend on him. She definitely didn't want to let him go.
"Thank God, you are safe. I was so scared," she said as she snuggled her cheeks on Klautz's chest, not minding to look at the question marks on his face.
Klautz sighed. It wasn't like he was out to fight a losing battle. There was no need to be so… so clingy.
But even if he felt so, Klautz couldn't wait long before caressing her back.
Verona approached from behind. Seeing the couple enjoying their time together she could only give them light condolences.
"Good to see you are safe," she whispered. A moment ago she was worried sick and finally was able to take a breath of fresh air. With this all of them were safe and sound.
But...
Verona had no ill will in her words but for some reason, her voice irked Klautz to no degree. Veins popped on his forehead as his ears twitched.
He held onto Selena by her shoulders and pulled her away clearly indicating that now was not the time to be lovey dovey.
Verona had involved herself in the last battle in an extremely irksome way. Klautz couldn't help but feel his blood boil because of her. It was because of Klautz's plan B that she escaped with her sorry life. But if Klautz had no such plans, what would have happened to her? The wolf girl could teleport and kill her with a swoop. Who would have been responsible for her death but herself?
Klautz turned around to respond to Verona's voice.
"Those kinds of words don't sound good on someone hell bent on killing herself. What were you even thinking while shooting those low ranked arrows of yours? Do you think that blind shooting is enough to kill any enemy? Did you even bother to analyze your enemy's abilities? No! You didn't! You were just hell bent on dying! If you were so eager to die, you could have asked me. I would have killed you with my very own hands. Why make things so difficult for everyone?"
Klautz left no room to lash at Verona. It was like he was showering a million bolts of lightning on her with words alone. Verona had never expected Klautz to lash at her for this. But she didn't even dare to say that she was sorry. His eyes were shooting like daggers at hers.
Klautz stood there holding onto his hips staring at her as if waiting for a response. But, Verona who couldn't even meet him in the eye had her head lowered down to her large chest.
"I am sorry but I just wanted to help," she could feel the pressure from Klautz yet she chose to reply as she could feel that Klautz was waiting for one. Seeing everything from Klautz's perspective she could understand full well why he chose to lash at her. Her actions, though driven by worry, were not helping him in any way. It had only caused him trouble.
"Oh Yeah? If you wanted to help you should have listened to what I had asked you to do! Hadn't I told you to stay here and not interfere at all? Yet you went ahead to get yourself killed! You had overstepped the number one rule of this group. In battles my orders are absolute! Hadn't I told you this on the first day? Yet you chose to ignore everything! If you had been killed, who would have been responsible for it?"
She could squeal and squirm as Klautz lashed at her. Her head sank more and more into her large chest.
"Honestly if you are not interested in staying with the group then you can as may leave it right here and right now! You can be on your terms, I don't care if you live or die!"
It was then that Verona looked up at Klautz. Her pupils shook as they were turning moist.
