She Lives without Regret in This Life
Chapter 1883 - 29: A Slap in the Face
Originally, he was coming up with excuses for her, thinking she had acted accidentally. Unexpectedly, she was actually serious.
"Did you want to kill my sister? Or our entire family?" Ping Qing asked, finally breaking the silence.
Gu Yunbo jumped down from the bars and was ready to leave when he suddenly blocked her way.
"Where are you going? You think you can cause trouble and then just run away?"
"Not at all." Gu Yunbo looked up at him. "You came here to take me back, didn’t you?"
Ping Qing’s expression grew more complex. Pressing his lips together, he asked in a lowered voice, "You still haven’t answered my previous question."
"Did your family offend me?" she retorted.
"Of course not."
"Then why would I want to kill someone? Kill your family?" She suddenly laughed, sarcastically saying, "I, Gu Yunbo, may be cold-blooded and ruthless, but I don’t kill without reason, unless there’s a life-and-death rivalry." After finishing, she stepped forward and leaned close to Ping Qing, her cold eyes like autumn frost.
"So, please don’t make an enemy for life with me," she said, enunciating each word.
Ping Qing believed she wasn’t joking; he could see the seriousness in her eyes. Her words didn’t scare him. In fact, he wasn’t here to settle scores but rather to solve problems.
The girl before him was only seventeen, still just a child!
"It’s already nighttime; come back home with me first."
"Alright!"
Gu Yunbo surprisingly complied; she truly hadn’t planned on running away.
When they returned together, the people on the first floor hadn’t gone to bed yet. Upon hearing footsteps, someone wrapped in clothing came out to look and, seeing Gu Yunbo, gave a complicated look before closing the door.
Once home, Ping Simin was long asleep out of exhaustion; only Zhu Meihua was still sitting in the living room chair, waiting for them. Seeing Gu Yunbo return, she suddenly stood up from the chair, raised her hand, and slapped her.
"Smack!" The loud slap seemed to echo in Ping Qing’s heart, making his eyes narrow, but he ultimately said nothing.
Gu Yunbo could have dodged that slap, but she didn’t move at all. She almost strangled someone else’s daughter, accepting this slap was warranted.
"Gu Yunbo, your mother was such a gentle and kind woman; how could you be so vicious?" Zhu Meihua’s voice was sharp.
Gu Yunbo’s pale left cheek quickly swelled up, yet she didn’t move. Listening to Zhu Meihua’s question, she seriously considered and then replied, "Maybe it has something to do with my father? Auntie, you might not know, but my mother was a madwoman! She was assaulted by a man when she went insane, which is how I was born."
After saying this, she displayed a frosty smile. "So, the seed of such a man is surely not a good thing."
Zhu Meihua staggered back a few steps, barely able to stand.
She only knew Gu Yunbo was an illegitimate child, not the specifics, and hadn’t expected the story to be like this.
As the person responsible from the beginning, she felt uncontrollable panic surge inside, stripping away the fervor for avenging her daughter.
"I’m sorry, Yunbo; does it hurt? Auntie didn’t mean it, Auntie really didn’t mean it," Zhu Meihua apologized, flustered, looking helplessly at her swollen cheek. Crying, she said, "I was scared by Simin’s appearance. She’s your sister; how could you hurt her so? She’s still a child and won’t mean any harm to you. I hope you two can get along well."
Since Zhu Meihua offered a way out, she wouldn’t be ungrateful.
"I’m sorry, Auntie. Simin called me a bastard, said I wanted to take away what didn’t belong to me, so that’s why I lost control," Gu Yunbo earnestly apologized. "I really didn’t mean it; I was too angry. Please, I’m begging you, don’t kick me out."
