She Lives without Regret in This Life
Chapter 1821 - 1900: Returning with a Full Harvest
"Shh... Don’t talk." The young boy had been sitting for less than twenty minutes and was already restless, but Sheng Ning stopped him just as he moved, "The fish is about to take the bait."
"Okay." The little guy obediently sat on the ground, still and fully focused on watching the water’s surface.
Less than ten minutes later, from the first fish biting to successfully being reeled in, Sheng Ning seemed to be on a roll as fish after fish took the bait. They were all types like carp and bream, not too big, some weighing a few ounces and some over a pound.
The young boy held the bucket and watched the fish swim around inside, grinning so wide it almost seemed silly.
"Mom, Mom, you’re amazing." He said, not forgetting to smugly lift his chin toward Xu Qigang.
In more than an hour, the mother and son successfully caught over a dozen fish.
"Alright! Let’s get ready to head home!" Sheng Ning noted that the sky was getting dark, packed up the fishing rod, and left with a full bucket.
Meanwhile, the little girl looked at them with envy, her speech not yet fluent, she pouted and said sadly, "Daddy, none!"
"..." Xu Qigang looked at his empty hook and decided he would never fish again.
"Sweetie, let’s head back too!" He said as he placed the fishing rod on the bank and followed them with his daughter in his arms.
"Let me carry this! It’s too heavy, it’s hard on you." Xu Qigang reached out to take the bucket from Sheng Ning, carrying the little girl easily.
As the bucket was taken from her, a subtle smile naturally appeared on Sheng Ning’s lips, and the two walked side by side. The young boy was now carried on Xu Qigang’s back, and the last rays of the sunset warmly shone over the family of four.
The tall silhouette of the man was cast long, blending together with the woman’s shadow beside him.
"Xiao Ning, are you cold?" Xu Qigang gently gripped her hand with his free one, warm and soft. He nodded, pleased, then reluctantly released it.
"Your hand isn’t cold."
"Of course not." Sheng Ning wouldn’t let herself suffer, dressing lightly for beauty’s sake.
"Wife, you look really beautiful."
Sheng Ning turned her head to look at him, smiling foolishly, and her deliberately maintained stoic expression finally gave way to a natural laugh.
"Wife, let’s live our life well from now on, okay?" He pushed his luck.
"Mm!" Sheng Ning turned her head shyly, "For now, you pass muster; how you do in the future will always be under review."
"Yes, ma’am." He grinned, "Xu Qigang of the Special Rescue Team is ready anytime."
"Ahem..." How had she not noticed how silly this man was before?
Just as they were approaching home, the family of four ran into Meng Ping getting out of the car, and the young boy started greeting him from afar.
"Uncle Meng, Uncle Meng, let’s play together!"
With his charmingly debonair smile, Meng Ping replied, "Sure!"
"Let’s go, back home for dinner; all you do is play. Starting tomorrow, you’ll join the training." Xu Qigang’s face turned serious as he dragged his wife into the house.
Left behind, Meng Ping was left speechless, his intended words coming to an abrupt halt.
Xu Mo exited the passenger seat, sympathetically saying, "Boss, you shouldn’t go disturbing the couple like that, it’s not good; it really ruins their relationship, you’ll get scolded."
"Shut up, you damned queer." Damn it! He’d just discovered Xu Mo actually liked men, it was terrifying. If he’d known earlier, there was no way he would’ve gone out of his way to hire a damned queer.
Not at all upset by the insult, Xu Mo smiled suggestively, "Boss, you’ll regret calling me names like that someday."
"Scram! The biggest regret of my life is meeting you." Finished, he stormed back home.
"Boss, wait for me, wait for me..." Xu Mo chased after him inside.
