Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Sophie Winslow Actually Blocked Him?!

Sophie Winslow furrowed her brows in confusion.

This was the first time Lucas Langley had messaged her since adding her as a contact. She had no idea what he meant by it. However, he had clearly sided with Stella Sutton, easily placing his trust in the other woman.

In that case, she didn’t see the need to associate with someone like him.

Without hesitation, she blocked his number. Only then did she drive back to Helios to continue her tedious work in the lab.

Meanwhile.

Lucas waited a long time for a reply, but none came. Feeling slightly distracted, he decided to try again and sent another message: [Did you not save my number? It’s Lucas Langley.]

A red exclamation mark popped up on the screen: [You are not friends with this user. Your message was rejected.]

He froze for two seconds, staring at the exclamation mark in disbelief. A sudden fire flared up within him, igniting his temper, only to be just as quickly extinguished.

Sophie... actually rejected his olive branch! To think he would get the door slammed in his face by her.

"Mr. Langley?" his driver called out hesitantly from the front seat.

Lucas snapped back to reality. Tossing his phone aside, his handsome face turned as cold as ice. "Back to the company!"

Recently, Sophie had been run off her feet.

The drug development project with Kingsford University was in full swing. As soon as Stella’s team at the university confirmed the Western medicine ratio, they could proceed with animal and clinical trials. However, they still hadn’t provided any results.

Although Sophie felt it was dragging down their progress, she didn’t rush them right away. She needed the time to figure out kindergarten arrangements for Lydia.

The new school term was starting next month. Since it had been decided that Lydia would stay in Kingsford, she needed to finalize her enrollment. Sophie had carefully screened all the top-tier kindergartens in the city, ultimately settling on the best overall option.

It was a school filled with the children of the elite, offering impeccable resources across the board. More importantly, it was the only kindergarten where she could secure an enrollment under her current circumstances. The school required proof of property ownership and capital verification, which meant she had to ask Adrian Hawthorne for help with the documentation. This included, but wasn’t limited to, the household registration book.

When Sophie called the school, the admissions officer was extremely polite. "You’re very lucky. Our school has a strict quota for enrollment, and this happens to be the very last spot. Just bring your child in on Monday to complete the paperwork."

Sophie felt that ever since she distanced herself from that scumbag and his mistress, her luck had improved significantly. She immediately agreed. "Great, see you then."

She promptly shared the good news with Hector Caldwell.

Hector was very pleased. "Excellent. That kindergarten has top-notch resources and is close to home. It’ll be easy for my wife and me to handle the drop-offs and pick-ups."

Sophie was incredibly grateful that Caldwell was willing to help take care of Lydia. She had a thousand words of thanks but struggled to say them. Being thin-skinned, she hesitated and stammered for quite a while.

Over the phone, Hector seemed to be playing chess. He muttered a bloodthirsty, "Kill!" before taking a moment to audibly wave off her gratitude. "Oh, shoo, shoo. Stop humming and hawing. Do you think I’m doing this for you? Lydia is no different from my own biological granddaughter! I’m doing this because I adore my precious grandbaby, so stop being so dramatic."

Sophie rubbed her nose. "Oh."

She mentally retracted all her earlier heartfelt emotions.

Later, she went shopping with Ivy Hawthorne and bought Lydia some new clothes and a new backpack. They would come in handy for her first day of school.

On Sunday evening, Sophie unexpectedly received a call from the kindergarten. "We sincerely apologize, but there was an error in our registration records. That final spot is no longer available. We regret to inform you that we won’t be able to welcome your little one to our school."

Sophie’s good mood vanished in an instant. "How is that possible?" she asked urgently. "How could you make such a massive mistake? Who is going to take responsibility for the time we’ve wasted?"

The person on the other end refused to give a direct answer, speaking in circles with bureaucratic excuses. But one fact was glaringly obvious: Lydia’s enrollment spot had most likely been stolen out from under them.

She was clearly the one who had secured it first!

When it came to her daughter, Sophie refused to take things lying down. After informing Ivy, they decided to march straight down to the school on Monday morning.

When Sophie arrived to pick up Ivy, she was surprised to see Lydia standing on the sidewalk next to her. The little darling was obediently wearing her pretty plush backpack, along with a matching StellaLou bunny-ear hat. Passersby couldn’t help but look back and marvel, "What a beautiful child."

Ivy stood beside her, beaming with pride as if walking on air. Every time a passerby offered a compliment, she would purse her lips in feigned modesty and nod. "Thank you."

Sophie stepped on the brakes and said helplessly, "Why did you bring Lydia out in this freezing weather?"

Did she forget they were going to fight for their rights today?

Ivy lifted Lydia into the car. "So what? I’m definitely getting that spot back. It’s a perfect opportunity for Lydia to familiarize herself with the campus environment."

Lydia nodded enthusiastically like a little woodpecker. "Mommy, I can help reason with them too!"

Sophie was speechless. Alright, her daughter’s cuteness had completely melted her frustration away once again.

They arrived at the kindergarten.

Even Ivy couldn’t help but marvel, "With a campus this size, no wonder it’s filled with the children of the rich and powerful. Our little darling deserves to enjoy the best resources."

Sophie, however, was preoccupied. Without knowing who had pulled strings to take the spot, she felt a lingering sense of unease.

"Ivy, I want to go play in the playground," Lydia said. Knowing that Ivy spoiled her the most, she pointed her sparkling eyes at the distant playground inside the campus.

Ivy chuckled. "Sure, go ahead."

With her little cheeks flushed red, Lydia was about to run off. Suddenly, she ran back and tugged at Sophie, gesturing for her to bend down. SMACK! She planted a big kiss on her mother’s cheek. Playing fair, she gave Ivy a kiss as well before finally scampering off to play, puffing and panting as she ran.

Ivy’s heart bloomed with joy. She felt completely energized for the impending argument with the school administrators!

Sophie couldn’t help but smile. Since she wasn’t worried about campus safety, she and Ivy headed off to find the person in charge.

The school placed a heavy emphasis on teaching children various skills; they even had a horseback riding area. Upon learning that the director was at the equestrian arena, they headed straight there.

When they arrived, Sophie’s expression abruptly cooled as she spotted familiar figures on the track.

Over there, Seth Sutton was sitting on a small pony. Stella Sutton was leading the horse for him.

Not far away, Julian Sterling stood by the outer fence. His tall, slender figure was incredibly eye-catching. He was looking down, taking a work call, while his other hand casually held an orange crocodile-leather purse.

Sophie’s gaze locked onto them for a moment. She certainly hadn’t expected someone of Julian’s status to stoop so low as to carry Stella’s purse for her. And he did it so naturally.

But more importantly... it seemed she now had the answer to who stole Lydia’s enrollment spot.

Ivy was furious. She looked ready to storm over, snatch the purse, and smash it on the ground.

"Which one of you is the principal?" Sophie asked aloud, squeezing Ivy’s hand to keep her calm.

A middle-aged man, who had been standing next to Julian offering obsequious smiles, immediately looked over. "And you are?"

It wasn’t just the principal. Sophie could practically feel Julian’s indifferent gaze landing on her. He looked so calm and detached; no one would ever guess they had been married for seven years.

"We’re here to ask about the enrollment quota," Sophie said. Her tone was even, as she had no desire to start a public screaming match. "The school confirmed the final spot with us, and now you’re telling me it’s gone. That’s hardly appropriate, is it?"

The principal subconsciously glanced at Julian, who was still on the phone nearby. He realized that the two opposing parties had just run into each other. He could only try to brush Sophie off. "Our staff made a mistake. That spot was filled a long time ago."

Right on cue, Stella walked over, her eyes filled with complete disregard as she looked at Sophie.

The principal immediately pointed at Stella and introduced her to Sophie. "This couple secured the final spot for their child. Why don’t you have a chat with the young couple first?"
