Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Sophie Winslow Will Be One of Her Interview Professors

Stella Sutton was momentarily taken aback when she first heard this. However, she quickly realized that she frequently participated in medical programs and exclusive interviews. The leading experts in the medical field kept up with such broadcasts. Naturally, he would have seen her on television. He might even admire her work. A surge of excitement swelled within her as she realized she was about to take another step closer to her ultimate goal.

"It is an honor to have left an impression on you," she said. "Everyone in the medical field hopes to receive guidance from a mentor like yourself."

Philip Preston, however, let out an inexplicable chuckle. "Seth Sutton is your younger brother, isn’t he? I heard he caused quite a scene in my clinic last month and wrecked quite a bit of my equipment."

Stella’s flawless, perfect smile froze for a split second, and her body involuntarily stiffened. She had completely forgotten about that incident. Since there had been no fallout and she hadn’t suffered any personal loss, she had naturally cast it out of her mind. Hearing it brought up now sent a sudden jolt of trepidation through her.

Julian Sterling, on the other hand, kept his cool. He looked at Philip. "The Sutton family has been a bit too indulgent with their children. I apologize if they made a fool of themselves in front of you, Mr. Preston. By the way, how is that batch of medical equipment Longview recently replaced for Calyx working out?"

Sophie Winslow instantly remembered. Back when Stella and that graduate student from Kingsford University had "accidentally" given Seth the wrong medication, they had nearly forced Helios to take the blame. This was exactly how Julian had smoothed things over—by replacing Calyx’s equipment with the latest, most advanced models, worth over a hundred million. Only then did Calyx’s upper management drop the matter and stop pursuing Stella for the near-disastrous damage she almost caused to their reputation.

Philip naturally remembered as well, his refined smile remaining unchanged. "Everyone knows that Mr. Sterling’s Longview is a pioneer in the medical equipment industry. With so many exports to developed countries, outfitting Calyx with your equipment has certainly provided our patients with a better experience."

Speaking of this, he looked at Stella and pushed up his glasses. "Now that Mr. Sterling mentions it, my memory is refreshed. The trouble Miss Sutton caused back then was no small matter. Young people still need to keep their feet on the ground."

Stella’s cheeks flushed hotly. Even though Philip hadn’t said anything overly harsh, a shiver still ran down her spine. After all, having that scandalous incident—which had nearly landed her behind bars—brought up in public was humiliating. She rationalized that Philip couldn’t be intentionally mocking her. Given his status and the fact that they hadn’t interacted before, he couldn’t possibly have a personal grudge against her; he was likely just offering advice because he appreciated her talent. If it hadn’t been for Sophie’s documentary-filming best friend, she would never have had to go through that ordeal in the first place.

Pressing her lips together, Stella shot a glance at Sophie. She harbored dissatisfaction and resentment, but she kept it hidden. Calming her emotions, she said, "Thank you for the reminder. That’s also why I came today—to formally apologize to you in person." She put on an incredibly sincere posture.

Having lived for over half a century, Philip had seen all kinds of people. He could tell at a glance who was only acting out of self-interest. Appearing as if he hadn’t heard Stella, he turned directly to Sophie. "Would you like to come over to my house for dinner after this is over?"

Stella froze, a wave of awkwardness washing over her. She hadn’t expected Philip to completely ignore her olive branch and instead invite Sophie to... his home?

Even Finn Lockwood was surprised. Although everyone praised Philip for his approachability and his willingness to gently guide the younger generation, Sophie was ultimately a nobody in this circle. How was she receiving such special treatment?

Sophie noticed the sudden quiet in their surroundings. When she looked up, she saw Julian staring right at her. At this moment, keeping up appearances to avoid suspicion no longer seemed to matter. She looked away and replied, "Sure, no problem."

Philip smiled and turned to leave. He clearly had no intention of getting to know Stella any further.

Stella’s heart sank. She hadn’t achieved her goal of meeting Philip today, and she certainly wasn’t happy that Sophie was stealing the spotlight through her connection to Peter Preston. She immediately stepped forward and spoke in a soft, gentle tone. "Director Preston, I have one more presumptuous request."

Philip looked back. Stella’s eyes were filled with anticipation. "I know you still teach at Kingsford Medical University and supervise doctoral students. I would like to apply to study under you, so I can do my part and contribute my meager strength to medical research."

Sophie was genuinely surprised. Did Stella finally realize she had no hope with Caldwell, so she was immediately pivoting to target her senior colleague?

Stella noticed Sophie’s gaze. She raised an eyebrow and gave a subtle smirk. Sophie’s surprise was downright laughable to her. It also indirectly proved that Sophie was inferior. She had the qualifications to apply directly to be Philip’s student, while Sophie did not. After all, Sophie’s major wasn’t even relevant. If Sophie wanted to survive in this circle, her starting line was completely skewed.

Although it was a pity that she couldn’t expand her reputation directly under Hector Caldwell, Philip was Hector’s first and most prominent disciple. He had both fame and fortune, not to mention a massive backer like Calyx. If she became Philip’s most prized pupil, she could launch her medical triage robot and use his connections to bypass the countless bureaucratic hurdles and directly integrate it into Calyx’s systems. Calyx would essentially become her free advertising platform.

When the time came, plenty of top-tier hospitals would follow suit and adopt her product. She needed a high-level launching pad, and both Hector and Philip were excellent choices. Even if Sophie was working on that pipe dream of a project at Helios, it was nothing to worry about. A project with so many technical barriers was destined to fail. The successful launch of her own project would make the massive gap between them painfully clear to Sophie.

Philip looked Stella up and down. "It’s your freedom to apply. As for the result, that will be determined by the entire panel of professors during the interview."

When that time came, assuming Sophie had completed all her procedures, she might very well be sitting on that exact panel of interviewing professors.
