Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Those Who Steal Children Deserve a Horrible Death
The more Shen Yue thought about it, the more her heart ached, and tears welled up in her eyes.
She didn’t know what was wrong with her. Clearly, these children had been borne by the body’s original owner; she had only inherited the body and become an instant mom.
And yet, she had developed such a deep affection for them, as if every single one of these children was her own flesh and blood.
"Sanbao, where on earth are you?"
"Sanbao! Little Yan!!"
Just as her throat was about to go hoarse from shouting...
Her vision suddenly went dark, and a scene instantly appeared before her eyes.
In a forest, a tall, slender man was holding Sanbao in his grasp.
The man had a cascade of ink-black hair that made him look utterly mysterious.
But his back was to her, so she couldn’t see his face.
Sanbao struggled ceaselessly in his grip, his little face turning red as he gasped for breath. A film of tears welled in his dark red eyes.
But the man’s grip didn’t loosen in the slightest. Instead, it tightened as he began to walk away, taking Sanbao with him.
Due to his speech impediment, Sanbao couldn’t cry out. His little face was flushed red with panic, and tears threatened to spill from his eyes.
Shen Yue’s breath caught in her throat, her heart aching for him.
Once her vision cleared, she charged recklessly in the direction she had seen in the vision.
’That bastard, that son of a bitch, who the hell is he!!’
’Where is he taking my child?’
’I’m going to kill him!!’
With her heart in her throat, Shen Yue ran desperately toward the forest. Sure enough, as she drew near, an invisible current of air surged through the woods.
Though she couldn’t see anyone, she knew he was nearby.
She followed the current, shouting:
"Bastard, let him go!!"
"Let go of my child!"
"I don’t care who you are! If you dare touch him, if you even think about hurting him, I, Shen Yue, swear this won’t be over between us!"
From his hidden position, Huang Ziyue’s grip on Sanbao faltered. He whipped his head around to look down at Shen Yue.
’Shen Yue?’
’This woman is Shen Yue?’
’The ugly female from the Duke Mansion?’
His pupils constricted, as if trying to see right through the frantic, red-faced Shen Yue below.
Shen Yue felt the surging current of air come to a stop, hovering around the forest. She followed her intuition and shouted in a specific direction:
"Sanbao, are you there? If you are, answer your female mother."
"Sanbao, just make a sound! Call out, answer your female mother!"
’Even one word would be enough.’
’As long as he calls out, I’ll know he’s still here, that he’s safe.’
Shen Yue’s eyes were completely bloodshot; she had lost all reason.
Just then, Sanbao seized the opportunity while Huang Ziyue was stunned. He instantly shifted into his beast form—a Little Flood Dragon—and bit down hard on the man’s hand. His sharp teeth pierced two bloody holes through the back of Huang Ziyue’s hand.
As fresh blood dripped down, Huang Ziyue’s grip slackened.
The little one plummeted from mid-air.
In that perilous moment, an overwhelming wave of love and longing for Shen Yue surged through Sanbao. He mustered all his strength and finally managed to cry out:
"Female mother!"
This was the first time since hatching from his shell that Sanbao had ever called her female mother.
Stunned, Shen Yue whipped her head around.
She had no time to rejoice before she saw Sanbao falling. Horrified, she cried out:
"Sanbao!!"
Her heart leaped into her throat.
Without a second thought, Shen Yue lunged forward.
Above them, Huang Ziyue snapped back to his senses, his heart tightening.
Just as Sanbao was about to crash into the ground, he quickly used his spiritual power to cushion the boy’s fall.
At the same time, Shen Yue dove forward, crashing hard onto the ground and wrapping her arms around Sanbao’s bone-chillingly cold beast body.
Watching from above, Huang Ziyue let out a shaky breath of relief.
Shen Yue let out a pained grunt from the fall, but she ignored her stinging knees and hugged Sanbao tightly.
Tears streamed from her eyes as she sobbed:
"Sanbao, Sanbao!"
"You scared your female mother to death! How are you? Are you hurt?"
Sanbao was still in his beast form and worried his appearance would frighten Shen Yue.
So, he struggled in her embrace, trying desperately to revert to his human form.
But after several strained breaths, he was still unable to change back.
He had probably overexerted his spiritual power during the confrontation with the man, leaving him too drained to transform back.
Seeing him struggle silently while holding his breath, Shen Yue instantly understood his intentions. Forgetting her fear of cold-blooded creatures, she stroked his jet-black scales and said:
"It’s okay, Sanbao. You don’t have to transform. Your female mother isn’t scared. All that matters is that you’re safe!"
The Little Flood Dragon felt the warmth of her touch on his scales, and his dark red beast-like eyes grew misty. He looked like a pitiful, aggrieved child who had done something wrong and feared punishment.
There was also a red mark on the back of his neck. The still-soft scales there were peeling up, and blood seeped from the wound. It looked as if he had been abused.
Huang Ziyue watched this scene and pursed his lips.
A hint of guilt flickered across his perennially expressionless face.
’Was I too rough with him just now?’
Below, Shen Yue saw the scale that looked as if it had been nearly ripped off. Her heart ached so much her breath caught, and huge tears began to fall.
"Sanbao, does it hurt terribly?"
Sanbao leaned into her embrace, his tail wrapping around her waist. He pressed against her, cautiously yet affectionately, responding to her concern.
"Mhm."
As Huang Ziyue watched Shen Yue tenderly stroke the back of Sanbao’s neck, her tears falling from heartache, an indescribable feeling stirred within him. It was as if something had finally touched his icy heart.
’Was it the pain for Sanbao reflected in her eyes, or the love that radiated from her entire being?’
’Even though the woman’s face was red and swollen, he found her stunningly vibrant and beautiful at this moment.’
’It had nothing to do with her appearance or her status. It was the warmth radiating from within her that moved him.’
’It was something he had never felt before!’
’Moreover, she possessed an aura where resilience and a maternal glow intertwined, making her seem exceptionally alive right now.’
Just as he was staring in a daze...
But then, Shen Yue wiped away her tears and began furiously cursing at the empty air:
"What kind of man bullies a child? You call that an accomplishment? Why don’t you just cut your junk off and become a woman!"
"Couldn’t you be anything else but a child snatcher? You bastard, you deserve to be shot!"
"Asshole, bastard, you animal! You’d better pray I never see you again! I’ve already memorized what you look like from behind. Unless you’re turned to ash, I swear I’ll kill you the next time I see you!"
"Anyone who steals a child deserves to die a horrible death!"
"You just wait! This isn’t over! You’ve made an enemy for life!"
Huang Ziyue’s aura, at first calm, grew turbulent, then terrifyingly grim.
Now, the very air around him seemed to freeze from the coldness he radiated!!
Listening to Shen Yue’s vile curses—though he didn’t understand all of them—he knew they were anything but kind.
His fair, wickedly handsome face flushed beet-red from her tirade, and a shameful blush crept up his neck at being cursed so thoroughly.
For the last hundred years, not a single person had even dared to look him in the eye, let alone curse him to his face like this!
Shen Yue was the first!
He clenched his fists, desperately wanting to rush down there and shut her up.
’Just make her stop.’
’But going down there now would be like walking right into a trap!’
