Chapter 307: Chapter 305: First-hand Experience

The fields of Bright Mountain were a picture of harmony and joy.

Everyone was busy tilling the soil, sowing seeds, and watering. Although the work was tiring, their eyes shone with anticipation for the future, and joyous laughter echoed constantly.

Only Yun Lie Ting’s figure, like a wind-up puppet, shuttled back and forth endlessly between the manure pit and the fields, becoming the most eye-catching and comical sight in the fields.

His formidable aura was completely crushed by the indescribable stench, leaving nothing behind. He never stopped for a moment—scooping manure, carrying the buckets, and fertilizing the crops.

He was clearly the King of the Forest Beasts, yet here he was doing the filthiest, most grueling chores. That look of forbearance and suppressed frustration was both comical and hilarious.

In particular, he tiptoed with every step, as if walking on scorching hot stones. His brows had been furrowed since morning and hadn’t relaxed all afternoon.

Those tiger eyes, usually sharp and intimidating, didn’t dare look down at the contents of the buckets the entire time.

He didn’t dare to breathe deeply, only parting his lips slightly to get air, looking for all the world like he was on some secret, life-or-death mission.

The sight sent the young cubs into fits of laughter, time and again!

「The entire day.」

It wasn’t until the setting sun hung low over the mountain peak that Shen Yue finished sowing all the seeds suitable for winter planting. With a wave of her hand, she led the people to pack up and leave.

As they left, however, the people looked at the carefully tended land before them, their hearts filled with gratitude. They spontaneously suggested adding ten more people to the original group guarding Bright Mountain.

To guard this hard-won land of hope day and night.

Back in the courtyard, Shen Yue let out a sigh of relief. This task was well and truly accomplished.

As long as they guarded that land well, with her seeds that had been nourished by Vitality Water, they could definitely bring new life to Barbaric City.

She went into the house, planning to wash up first before preparing dinner for the children.

But just as she stepped inside, the sound of a sharp argument came from outside the courtyard gate.

"Go away! I don’t want to talk to you!"

Wubao’s indignant shouting was especially loud.

Yun Lie Ting, who had just worked up the courage to sincerely apologize to Wubao, froze on the spot.

This man, always so hard-edged and ruthlessly decisive, was now at a complete loss when faced with a tiny cub who still had the scent of milk about him.

In truth, he had shamelessly followed them all the way back.

When they left Bright Mountain, not a single person, neither Shen Yue nor the children, acknowledged him.

And so, with his ears drooping pitifully, he had tagged along at the very back of the group, like a fearsome beast that had been abandoned but refused to leave.

Now, as Shen Yue came out at the sound of the voices, Yun Lie Ting immediately straightened his back, standing in the middle of the courtyard, unable to hide his embarrassment.

The faint, strange smell still clinging to his robes made him feel uncomfortable all over.

Meanwhile, Huang Ziyue, Bai Chaosi, and the others acted as if they hadn’t even seen this large, living person, busying themselves at the stove.

One chopped vegetables, another stoked the fire. Smoke curled up from the kitchen, but no one spared this White Tiger King who had suddenly intruded a single glance.

Yun Lie Ting’s handsome face flushed slightly as he stood in the middle of the courtyard, uncertain whether to go or stay.

Wubao’s small body was ramrod straight, his cheeks puffed out as he glared at Yun Lie Ting. Seeing Shen Yue come out, he backed his short little legs up to her feet, making it clear he wanted nothing to do with the man.

"female mother, we didn’t invite him, but he followed us here anyway. Wubao doesn’t want to talk to him!"

As he spoke, the little boy even covered his nose:

"He stinks! He’s making our whole courtyard stink!"

The moment these words were out, Yun Lie Ting felt as if he were being roasted over a fire, his face burning hot with shame...

’What a great son he had. Sparing him no ounce of dignity, hitting him right where it hurt!’

’How could he not know he stank? He’d been scooping manure all day; of course he stank!’

Huang Ziyue stir-fried the beast meat in the pot, waves of fragrant aroma wafting out, but he didn’t even flick a glance in Yun Lie Ting’s direction.

But Ye Lüqi, who was tending the fire, said in a cool, faint tone:

"Some people have a lot of nerve, following us all the way to our doorstep without an invitation."

Mu Silin, who was squatting to the side preparing green vegetables, heard this and chimed in softly:

"Just because he worked on Bright Mountain doesn’t mean he’s welcome in the courtyard."

Gu Fangqi, for his part, was chopping firewood. His gaze fell on Yun Lie Ting’s tense profile with a ghost of a smile, clearly enjoying the show.

This scene was just like when they first arrived at Wilderness Mountain and were targeted by their own little cubs!

They’d all been through it before, so they knew the feeling all too well!

Yun Lie Ting’s face went from pale to livid, and he was rendered speechless by their jibes.

’In all his years, when had he ever suffered such humiliation?’

’Normally, he would have made them pay the price long ago.’

’But now, all he could do was clench his fists, his gaze glued to Wubao. He knew that Wubao was his only opening.’

’Win over Wubao, and he could get closer to Shen Yue.’

’Then he could resolve the distance and conflict between them.’

His voice was softer and gentler than it had ever been, carrying a barely perceptible, pleading tone:

"Wubao, I’m your Father."

"I was wrong about what happened last time. I shouldn’t have taken you, or been so harsh with you."

When Wubao heard this, his little brows furrowed even tighter. His voice was childish, but exceptionally firm:

"You’re not my Father! You’re a big bad guy! You grabbed me, scared me, and you made female mother angry!"

"Wubao wants nothing to do with you!"

A pang shot through Yun Lie Ting’s heart, as if he’d been cruelly stabbed.

Seeing this, Shen Yue reminded him bluntly:

"Why don’t you go soak in the river first, and get rid of the smell??"

At her words, Yun Lie Ting’s handsome face instantly flushed red all the way to his neck.

"Right!"

He turned, and as if his feet were greased, he shot out of the courtyard.

He even kicked up a cloud of dust in his wake.

When Yun Lie Ting returned, the courtyard was already filled with a fragrant aroma.

He wrung the corner of his robes, pacing back and forth a couple of steps at the courtyard gate, unsure whether he should enter or not.

He raised his arm and brought it to his nose, sniffing it carefully.

After confirming that the lingering, filthy stench was completely gone, leaving only the clean scent of river water, he finally breathed a small sigh of relief.

From within the courtyard came the sound of the children’s happy laughter and Shen Yue’s gentle voice giving instructions.

It was a scene of domestic warmth he had never been a part of, and it made this ruthlessly decisive White Tiger King feel a stir of trepidation.

And so he just stood there in the twilight, his tall figure looking somewhat lonely. Several times he went to push open the courtyard gate, only to forcefully stop himself.

Just as he was hesitating, his fingers practically burning with indecision, CREAK, the courtyard gate was pulled open a crack from the inside.

Wubao’s round little head poked out. He lifted his amber eyes, which met Yun Lie Ting’s hand as he hastily pulled it back.

The little fellow immediately crossed his arms, planting his short legs to block the doorway like a little guard fiercely defending his post. In a childish but menacing voice, he began:

"What are you back for?"

Yun Lie Ting froze on the spot again. The embarrassment that had just subsided came rushing back, and the tips of his ears quickly turned red.

He opened his mouth, but his deep voice, which usually shook the mountains and forests, was now somewhat hoarse:

"Wubao, I..."

He wanted to say he had come to apologize, but the words caught in his throat, too clumsy to come out properly.

Seeing him stutter and stammer, Wubao’s little brow furrowed even more. He even glanced over him, his little nose sniffing lightly, as if inspecting for any smell.

After confirming there was no bad smell, he didn’t relent, but instead jutted out his small chin:

"female mother didn’t call for you, so you can’t come in! We’re about to eat, and we’re not saving any for you!"

With that, the little fellow started to close the door, his entire small being radiating rejection towards Yun Lie Ting.

Yun Lie Ting’s heart tightened, and he subconsciously reached out a hand to gently stop the door panel.

His movement was incredibly light, afraid of hurting the boy, and his voice held a humility he himself didn’t even notice:

"Wubao, don’t close the door... Father brought you something."
