Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse
Chapter 678: Something Is Coming Out
The windows of the Monster Pickup Truck had not been sealed shut.
For Chen Ye, danger that couldn't be seen was far more terrifying than danger that could be seen.
Unseen danger meant he couldn't react in time.
Visible danger meant he could decide his next move at any moment based on how the situation evolved.
Superhumans had psychological endurance that survivors could never hope to match.
That was why almost every superhuman in the convoy had left their windows unsealed.
They wanted to see, to witness exactly what those anomalies from the deep sea were up to.
"Squad Leader Chu, are you sensing anything?"
Dantai Bie's somewhat tense voice crackled through the radio inside the vehicle.
"I can't sense it clearly. The seawater interferes heavily with our pathfinder sensory abilities!"Chu Che's slightly distorted voice chimed in at just the right moment.
Along with Chu Che's voice came some static interference.
"Hey, do you think this sea anomaly landing is like the great animal migration on the African savanna?"
"Are they also migrating from one place to another?"
Dantai Bie's voice kept going.
But no one answered his question.
Dantai Bie didn't seem embarrassed. He continued asking.
"Say, if even Squad Leader Chu, a Pathfinder Sequence 4, couldn't detect the sea anomalies coming ashore, how did the Silent Council know?"
"And they even knew how many days the sea anomalies would be landing?"
"Do they have a superhuman who can predict the future?"
"If there really is a superhuman who can foresee the future, damn, wouldn't that be invincible?"
"If such a person really existed, I'd want to ask him whether humanity eventually took back the cities, or died out completely!"
"I'm so curious..."
"The Silent Council, I've got to say, they do have some real skills. At least they managed to get their hands on that many Wonders..."
On and on he rambled, blathering endlessly...
But no one interrupted Dantai Bie's chatter.
Because many of the suspicions this kid voiced were what everyone else was thinking too.
Like, how did the Silent Council know the sea anomalies were coming ashore?
And was this whole thing actually some scheme by the Silent Council?
Chen Ye gazed at the calm sea surface in the distance.
Not a single sound of noise came from the entire base.
If this had been any other time, the base would have been bustling with activity.
But now, the whole base was as quiet as death.
In fact... Chen Ye felt a slight chill.
Just then, Chen Ye's Blood Eye flickered faintly.
It seemed...
Chen Ye lifted his head slightly.
The convoy had returned from Xi City at dusk.
The weather had actually been pretty good these past few days. Stars were visible every night.
Combined with the warming temperatures, daytime temperatures had reached over twenty degrees.
During the day, some people even wore short sleeves.
At night, a long-sleeved shirt was more than enough.
But now...
Somehow, a massive dark cloud had gathered in the sky without warning.
The faint starlight that had just peeked through moments ago was now completely swallowed by the clouds.
Not only that, more and more dark clouds were closing in from all directions.
The sky was gradually dimming.
It wasn't as horrifying as Eternal Night, where not a trace of daylight remained.
But it was still deeply unsettling.
Chen Ye exhaled a breath, watching it turn into visible white mist in the air.
The temperature seemed to have dropped a few degrees.
From the radio, Dantai Bie's voice continued.
"Squad Leader Chu, Yezi, does everyone feel the temperature dropping?"
"Something's not right!"
Dantai Bie's voice carried a hint of nervousness.
"Shut up!"
Chu Che's voice cut in, silencing Dantai Bie's incessant chatter.
Before Dantai Bie could say anything else, Chu Che's voice came through again.
"Everyone, start applying your Concealment Talismans now!"
"They're... coming!"
After saying that, Captain Chu Che didn't utter another word.
Chen Ye pressed the Concealment Talisman against the clothes over his chest.
This time, the Silent Council had given them a hundred Concealment Talismans.
Truth be told, the Fair Convoy no longer had a hundred people.
The surplus talismans were distributed among the superhumans, with at least two for each person.
These Concealment Talismans were top-tier goods. Even at the Silent Council Shop, they cost several gold coins apiece.
Feeling the aura within his body being suppressed and hidden by the talisman, Chen Ye flicked the cigarette from his lips into the sand of the beach. Sparks scattered, and the glow of the cigarette butt slowly began to die out.
By the light of the dying ember, Chen Ye noticed that a thin layer of frost had somehow formed on the sand.
Chen Ye's heart tightened.
Things seemed to be developing even more severely than the Silent Council had predicted.
But this was no time to be assigning blame to the Silent Council.
Out on the distant, calm sea surface, something seemed off.
His blood-red left eye flickered.
Chen Ye had raised his alertness to the maximum. His left hand gripped the steering wheel, his right hand clutched Hatred.
On the distant sea surface...
It was very calm...
Calm in a way that was anything but normal.
As if something was hiding beneath that peaceful surface.
Chen Ye stared unblinkingly at the sea.
He wasn't the only one.
Dantai Bie, Sun Xixi, Iron Lion, Ding Dong, and Chu Che, all of whom had their windows unsealed.
They were all watching the sea.
Over there...
Something was rising from the water.
The next moment...
