The tension and fear churning inside Xiong Baochun's heart was something no one else could possibly understand.

But just as Xiong Baochun closed to within roughly five meters of Door 23, that "child" suddenly retracted its head.

The door seemed to still be trembling slightly from the child's hurried withdrawal.

Everyone stared, stunned.

Chen Ye was the first to react: "What the hell are you all standing there dumbfounded for? Seal it!"

The moment those words left his mouth, everyone snapped back to reality.

Xiong Baochun dashed forward in two or three quick strides, then slammed the door shut with all his might.

"BANG!"

The sheer force of this Guardian Sequence superhuman seemed like it might shatter the door into splinters.

City Lord Cha Wu Cha was quick to react as well. The moment Xiong Baochun moved, he drifted toward Room 23 like a gentle breeze.

In that process, City Lord Cha Wu Cha had already produced several talisman papers in his hands. The talismans ignited spontaneously without any wind, his lips moving rapidly in incantation while his hands formed a continuous stream of mystical seals.

Old Wang also stumbled along behind City Lord Cha, frantically fumbling through his robes for talisman papers.

But just then, something inside the room seemed to sense what was happening.

A piercing, miserable shriek echoed out to everyone's ears.

Like a child who had been deceived.

Or perhaps like a vengeful spirit robbed of its delicious meal.

"THUD!"

Xiong Baochun had been bracing his body firmly against the door when he felt it suddenly struck by some tremendous force.

The impact reverberating through the door sent him flying backward, his entire body hurled through the air.

Xiong Baochun's strength felt like nothing more than a joke in that moment.

And the door to Room 23 had been bulged outward by the massive impact.

The wall connected to the doorframe now spiderwebbed with cracks.

In the middle of the room's door, a massive gash had split open.

Peering in from outside, all anyone could sense was a restless, sinister aura within. Nothing was visible.

Even just the leaked aura alone was enough for Chen Ye to feel the Hatred at his waist break through its first form, Wailing.

And Hatred was rapidly closing in on its second form, Bitter Wailing.

This... Hatred was still sheathed. It hadn't even been drawn yet!

Just the mere leaked aura contained this much grudged resentment!!!

Chen Ye's heart trembled with terror.

If whatever was behind that door got out...

Just thinking about it sent a numbing chill crawling across his scalp.

This... was this the power of that "child" from earlier?

What the hell was he waiting for? Time to run!

Just as Chen Ye was about to turn and flee, he heard Iron Lion let out a furious roar. That guy rapidly transformed into his muscular devil state, his legs instantly swelling to thicker than an adult's waist.

That lunatic turned himself into a hurricane and charged straight at Door 23.

"This idiot!"

Chen Ye cursed angrily...

"JI!"

City Lord Cha bellowed a command syllable, and the burning talisman paper in his hand transformed into a streak of firelight, shooting straight toward Door 23.

Just as the second impact was about to land, City Lord Cha's talisman finally reached the door.

The firelight reached the door at the exact moment it burned out completely. Some sort of power seemed to activate within the talisman as it was consumed.

That power surged instantly into the battered door.

In a single breath, the door glowed with yellow light. A feeling of majestic, heaven-sent might descended as if from some unfathomable abyss.

It was a reassuring sensation, as if with this power present, no manner of demon or fiend needed to be feared.

At the same time, Iron Lion arrived on the scene.

The guy was like a heavy-duty piece of construction machinery. His hands transformed into enormous door panels, plugging the opening of Door 23 with his own body.

But the walls surrounding the Door 23 frame were already cracking apart.

The Silent Council's Architect Sequence superhumans also made their move. Under their supernatural power, the fractured walls visibly restored themselves at a rate one could see with the naked eye.

Not only that, but a layer of construction debris was rapidly converging on the area.

They seemed to be trying to reinforce the area into an impenetrable fortress.

But just then...

"BOOM!!!"

Another thunderous impact.

It felt like the entire Building One shook from the sheer force of the collision.

Dust rained down from the ceiling in an endless stream.

And Iron Lion...

His entire body looked like it had been struck by a massive cannon. Even in his transformed state, the sheer force sent him flying through the air.

That kind of power...

Not only that, but the yellow glow radiating from City Lord Cha's talisman, the majestic heaven-sent might that had seemed unbreakable moments before...

In the face of this power, it was utterly useless.

What the f*ck...

Chen Ye wanted to swear.

And that door... was still there... barely. Broken beyond recognition.

Calling it a door was generous. It was more like a barrier on the verge of total collapse.

The walls that had just been repaired were already cracking apart again with even larger fissures.

Peering in from outside, all anyone could see was something moving within.

But what it was, no one could make out.

Massive amounts of gaseous black energy surged out from inside.

"Eeeeyah~~~"

The child's furious roar thundered from within. As it hit everyone's ears, they felt their heads grow dizzy, and faint hallucinations flickered before their eyes.

But the process didn't last long.

And Hatred...

Had already transformed to its second form.

What the hell...

Bitter Wailing was a form that was incredibly difficult to reach.

But now...

Just from being inside its scabbard, it could have this effect???

What in the world was this thing?

The first strike had only been a hurried, half-hearted blow.

The second strike was a full-power impact.

At the third strike, whatever unknown thing was in there would come out.

Chen Ye could feel the dread building in his heart.

Although it wasn't as overwhelming as the helplessness he'd felt when facing the Great Serpent of Mist River, it was definitely not something he could handle at his current level.

Chen Ye wanted to run, but...

Could he even escape?

This thing was far stronger than he'd initially estimated.

"Quick, help out!"

Someone shouted. It sounded like it was Song Wei's voice.

All the Silent Council staff snapped into action.

That Architect Sequence superhuman suddenly had more than ten yellow talisman papers slapped onto his body in an instant.

And several Silent Council staff members dressed in black clothes placed their hands on his shoulders.

These Black Clothes individuals also emanated traces of supernatural power.

They seemed to be living human batteries, supplying power to the superhuman.

Just a moment later, those talisman papers and Black Clothes took effect.

Chen Ye could clearly sense that the Architect Sequence superhuman's supernatural power was now surging at a magnitude far beyond what it had been moments ago.

Countless construction materials transformed under the influence of this superhuman's power.

The just-fractured walls rapidly restored to their original state.

Not only that, the previously battered door was also sealed shut by construction materials.

The door was completely blocked off in less than three seconds.

City Lord Cha Wu Cha was also pushing himself to the limit. He grabbed more than a dozen talisman papers in one handful.

Then tossed them into the air overhead.

His lips moved rapidly through some mysterious incantation, so intense it caused ripples in the air itself.

His hand seals moved so fast they looked like streaks of afterimages.

Not only that, Old Wang was also frantic. A very special triangular talisman paper appeared in his hand.

Clearly, this talisman was Old Wang's protective charm.

The guy bit the tip of his tongue directly, spat out a mouthful of tongue blood, and sprayed it straight onto the triangular talisman paper.

The originally yellow triangular talisman was dyed crimson red. In an instant, it broke free of Old Wang's control and flew straight at the wall that was writhing, repairing, and thickening itself.

The triangular talisman was quickly buried within the paper.

And so more talismans were embedded within the wall.

But that special triangular talisman... there had only been the one.
