Chapter 730: Chapter 731: You Can!

Nobody at the tea stall dared to respond to what Cui Hao had said.

Though they weren’t scholars, that didn’t stop them from knowing what could and couldn’t be said — at the very least, when someone shouted about overthrowing the feudal dog emperor, they’d tacitly play deaf, not even sparing a glance.

After all, getting dragged down as an accomplice when you went up to grab someone would be rotten luck.

Cui Hao swept his gaze around, looking thoroughly pleased with himself, as if he’d just said something incredibly profound that had stunned everyone. His smile widened as he said:

"The books say, ’The people may be made to follow a path, but not to be made to understand it.’"

"That means, you just make them do it — you don’t let them know why."

"My father says Li Junzi wants to distribute weapons to everyone under heaven, which naturally is the source of chaos."

"The new policy Li Junzi is pushing — naturally it’s the root of chaos for our Xuanwu Kingdom. If it were truly a policy for the good of the whole nation, how could she have been chased away like a stray dog?"

The burly man looked at Cui Hao’s expression, which was earnest to the point of naivety, and weighed the now-colored tea in his bowl. Though Cui Hao’s words and behavior weren’t exactly endearing, at least this bowl of tea had been a good deal. He spoke up:

"The new policy or not — that’s the officials’ business. Some things we can’t say. Friend, how about a cup of tea?"

Cui Hao nodded with a smile, pulled up a stool and sat beside the burly man, speaking with remarkable ease:

"The new policy is indeed the officials’ business, but whether to participate or not concerns you and me directly. Li Junzi has already entered Xuanwu Kingdom — pushing the new policy is inevitable. I’m just worried someone might become a sacrifice to it. Once the policy goes through, it’ll be nothing but feathers scattered everywhere."

The burly man heard this and still didn’t dare respond, secretly cursing his own bad luck and stupidity for engaging with this rich fool with a clever father.

When Cui Hao saw the burly man ignoring him, he shook his head helplessly:

"My father told me not to say any of this outside. I figured you all seemed like friends, so I spoke from the heart."

The burly man couldn’t help himself and spoke again:

"Your father’s right. You should listen to your father. Stop talking."

Cui Hao sighed softly:

"But I don’t think my father is entirely right. The great scholar from Junzi Mountain — why would she bring the source of chaos to push it? Friend, I just want to ask you one honest question: do you think the new policy is ultimately good or bad?"

The burly man fell silent for a moment, then finally answered:

"Being able to read has its conveniences."

Cui Hao nodded with a look of understanding, then stood up:

"It’s just a shame there aren’t more people who think like you. If there were, maybe the new policy could actually get implemented."

"My father says, reasoning doesn’t need everyone to understand it — because if everyone does, the one who loses out might be yourself."

As his words fell, every gaze in the tea stall turned to Cui Hao.

Everyone was now wondering — was Cui Hao truly stupid, or was he pretending?

Cui Hao waved his long sleeves, turned, and walked out without another word.

Chen Baiqing and Li Xingtian had listened to the entire exchange from outside the tea stall.

Without any extra gestures or words, both of them silently followed after him.

Li Xingtian pressed his lips together lightly, still seemingly savoring what Cui Hao had just said.

He was a pure cultivator, and the reasoning between cultivators wasn’t found in books.

Chen Baiqing looked at Cui Hao ahead and asked:

"Are you planning to play the fool at every tea stall, then push your narrative?"

Cui Hao slowed his steps, a smile appearing on his face:

"Come on, I’m a Golden Core Ultimate Great Perfection cultivator — I can’t play the fool every time. Li Junzi brought a whole bunch of foolish Confucian scholars with her, didn’t she? If it needs doing, let that bunch handle it."

"Besides, when it comes to stirring things up, the great families have a natural advantage. To really push the new policy against the great families, it does need Master to drive the momentum. I’m just genuinely curious — what do the people of the world actually think about all this?"

Li Junzi had already been in Xuanwu Kingdom’s capital for over a month.

During this time, the new policy hadn’t made the slightest appearance, but every noble family in the capital was doing everything in their power to resist her.

Whether it was petitions denouncing the flaws of Li Junzi’s new policy, or even composing nursery rhymes to slander her — they’d even started teaching children’s songs to malign Li Junzi.

Nowadays, any child in Xuanwu’s capital who couldn’t sing the nursery rhyme mocking Li Junzi would probably be ostracized.

The scale of this campaign was truly the pinnacle of the mortal world.

Even people who didn’t care about Li Junzi or the new policy had learned about them through various channels.

Among them, Cui Hao had quietly lent a hand behind the scenes, offering plenty of ideas. At least a few lines in those nursery rhymes had been written by Cui Hao himself.

The new policy should be discussed, should be known — even if the coverage was negative.

If nobody discussed it at all, if it never became a topic of conversation over tea, then the chances of the new policy succeeding would truly be slim.

Li Junzi hadn’t been affected by this public opinion, nor had she rushed to implement the policy. She was still in the capital, writing her own unique treatise.

Chen Baiqing had naturally been keeping an eye on Cui Hao and understood what he’d been doing:

"You don’t need to do so much. Since Master has her own arrangements, as long as we follow the proper course, nothing will go wrong."

Cui Hao didn’t respond to this, instead turning his gaze to Li Xingtian:

"Second Senior Brother, what do you think?"

Li Xingtian looked over: "About what?"

"About what Third Senior Sister said, of course."

Li Xingtian spread his hands, his tone somewhat helpless:

"I’ve never handled this kind of thing, and I don’t really understand how you two want to go about it."

"Anyway, both you and Baiqing make sense. Whoever speaks last, I’ll believe them."

Li Xingtian was telling the truth. Sometimes when two people argued, whoever spoke last — even if he’d found all the previous reasoning perfectly agreeable and entirely reasonable — he’d always end up persuaded by the last speaker.

Perhaps it was because they were his own sect siblings, and he was willing to believe them.

Cui Hao grinned and changed the subject: "So how was Fifth Junior Brother’s impression of the fool just now?"

"Not very convincing, because the reasoning was too good," Li Xingtian said sincerely. "Sometimes you’re just like Master — if the situation allows, you always choose to be the good guy."

Cui Hao froze mid-step, his gaze locking onto Li Xingtian.

Li Xingtian slowed his own steps, looking back at Cui Hao’s intense stare with some confusion:

"What’s wrong?"

Cui Hao threw his arms wide, his tone exaggerated:

"Second Senior Brother! You really are the most loyal and righteous Second Senior Brother — you even saw through to Fifth Junior Brother’s truest self!"

Li Xingtian’s expression was somewhat helpless, clearly thinking Cui Hao was teasing him:

"Even though I’ve never beaten you up, if you keep this up, Second Brother won’t be able to hold back."

Chen Baiqing’s lips curved into a slight smile, but she said nothing.

She understood perfectly — when someone saw through to Cui Hao’s genuine side, his instinct was to play the fool to cover up his inexplicable embarrassment.

In Chen Baiqing’s line of sight, Cui Hao casually leaned against Li Xingtian:

"Second Senior Brother! I still want to follow you around in the future!"

Li Xingtian shook his head helplessly:

"As long as you don’t try to con your Second Brother, we’re fine."

"How could I ever con Second Brother?"

Li Xingtian’s tone was absolute:

"You can."
