Chapter 713: Chapter 714: The Results Are Excellent
"The master just delegates all the troublesome work to me."
Li Yingling held a jade token in her hand, looking utterly despondent as she vented to Zhang Miaoyu, who had temporarily stepped back from her outer sect elder duties to serve as a junior clerk again.
Naturally, the task of liaising with the Buddhist sect fell squarely on Li Yingling’s shoulders.
Zhang Miaoyu was busy enough herself, but working with Li Yingling always brought her a certain joy, so she didn’t mind the hardship.
But she knew that when Li Yingling started complaining, she needed to do more than just agree—she should offer some comfort too.
Being a team leader’s assistant wasn’t just about getting things done; it was also about managing the leader’s emotions.
Zhang Miaoyu smiled warmly, her tone gentle but tinged with envy: "As the sect master’s eldest disciple, leader, your intelligence and capability naturally earn you important responsibilities."
"The sect master has entrusted you with the critical diplomatic mission with the Buddhist sect—a clear sign of confidence in your abilities. With the sect master still recovering from injuries and your soft-hearted nature, you’re naturally doing your best to ease his burden."
Li Yingling sighed lightly at this, then shook her head helplessly: "Fine. Those who are capable simply have to take on more."
Though her tone hadn’t really changed, Zhang Miaoyu could tell her mood had already improved considerably.
Yun Li was also holding a jade token, looking somewhat bewildered as he watched the two of them.
What did she mean the master was leaving everything to the eldest senior sister?
He’d been sitting here doing this and that, even meeting with those bald-headed monks that Li Yingling didn’t want to see.
On the surface they were all pleasant, but their words were full of suspicion, as if everything was a trap.
Sometimes Yun Li just wanted to punch these ungrateful fellows.
Their sect was the one making concessions, yet these bald donkeys were acting like they were doing them a favor while still complaining.
He genuinely couldn’t understand why the sect master would make concessions to the Buddhist sect and help them promote Small Vehicle Buddhist Teachings.
The eldest senior sister was even more absurd—when he was handling the negotiations, her bottom line was practically nonexistent, as if to say "if they dare to ask for it, why wouldn’t you agree?"
She was already acting so carefree as a hands-off manager, yet she still claimed to be tired...
It was a pity the sect master hadn’t truly seen through Li Yingling’s real nature.
Yun Li sighed inwardly—though at least when the eldest senior sister left him to negotiate on his own, he felt confident enough to reject some of the Buddhist sect’s excessive demands.
But those bald donkeys from the Buddhist sect were strange too.
When he didn’t reject their demands, they looked at him like he was setting another trap for them.
But once he did reject something, their expression completely shifted—as if to say, "You’re finally being honest, aren’t you?"
Yun Li didn’t have the authority to make final decisions on everything, so when the Buddhist sect made demands that were clearly excessive but they wouldn’t back down, he had to report back to Li Yingling for the final call.
But this step was mostly just a formality.
Li Yingling agreed to most of what the Buddhist sect proposed.
Only the truly outrageous conditions were rejected.
When Yun Li received a rejection, he naturally had the confidence to rebuke those foolish Buddhist monks.
But when Li Yingling approved something, he had to swallow his pride and accept the Buddhist sect’s escalating demands.
These monks had some kind of psychological quirk—when he stood his ground firmly, they usually needed to get scolded by him before they were satisfied and moved on.
But when he reluctantly accepted their conditions and showed obvious frustration, threatening to quit, they actually started making concessions, as if terrified he’d actually walk away.
After all this time dealing with them, the monks had somehow grown friendlier toward him. Even when Yun Li pointed at their noses and called them out for being excessive, they just smiled and told him to speak calmly, no rush.
These days... strange things really were everywhere.
"Yun Li, have the monks brought up any other demands recently?"
Li Yingling looked up and asked Yun Li: "That unlucky monk has been unusually quiet the past couple of days and hasn’t come to negotiate terms with you."
Yun Li lifted his gaze, sighed inwardly, but put on a humble smile: "The monks have already settled the main conditions. Any remaining details can be worked out once we start implementing and run into issues."
What else was there to discuss? They’d agreed to nearly everything, even the parts with no bottom line left—what difference did a little more make?
Though Yun Li complained internally, he didn’t show it at all.
He’d actually considered reporting this to the sect master, but what Zhang Miaoyu said was true.
Li Yingling was genuinely the sect master’s trusted confidant, and his complaints would probably carry less weight than Li Yingling’s coquetry.
He wasn’t interested in taking a beating for nothing.
So Yun Li was waiting for a truly critical moment where he could step in and turn things around.
By then, the sect master would finally see who was truly loyal—the person or the dragon!
Everyone would have to look at him differently then!
Li Yingling nodded knowingly: "That makes sense. Since the terms are settled, we should prepare to start implementing according to what was discussed."
Zhang Miaoyu’s eyes lit up as she looked at the jade token in Li Yingling’s hand, smiling with understanding—so the preparatory work was done?
Li Yingling smiled and nodded.
Yun Li glanced oddly at the two of them but didn’t suspect anything; Zhang Miaoyu was just Li Yingling’s devoted follower.
Li Yingling turned to Yun Li: "Since you handled the negotiations with the monks, you know better than I do what was actually agreed to. So you should take the lead on the initial implementation."
"Also, make it clear to those bald donkeys that if they make things difficult during implementation, I’ll personally take over the follow-up coordination and actions."
Yun Li nodded quickly: "Understood. I’ll complete the assigned task."
Li Yingling looked at his earnest expression and nodded with satisfaction: "Good, good. Once this is done, I’ll definitely put in a good word for you with the master!"
"Thank you, eldest senior sister!" Yun Li looked delighted. "I’ll go recommend that the monks work more efficiently."
"Go ahead." Li Yingling nodded in approval.
As Yun Li bowed and turned to leave, he thought to himself that if the eldest senior sister actually went to supervise personally, those bald donkeys would probably be grinning from ear to ear.
For the sake of their master, he’d just handle things himself when he could.
Zhang Miaoyu watched Yun Li’s departing figure, waited a moment, then slowly asked: "Leader, isn’t it a bit problematic that we’re not giving Yun Li any real information about the situation?"
"Hmm? Aren’t the results pretty good?"
Zhang Miaoyu pressed her lips together lightly at this answer.
Eventually she nodded in agreement.
It was undeniable.
The results really were excellent.
