Sect Master's Immortal Journey
Chapter 1015: Visit
Meng Zhang left the residence of the Five Punishments Guard on his own and headed to the lodging place of the Sea Spirit Sect's diplomatic envoy.
Under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Rites in the Dali Dynasty, there was a dedicated state guesthouse for receiving distinguished guests from all directions.
After arriving in the capital city, the diplomatic envoy from the Sea Spirit Sect had been arranged to stay at the state guesthouse.
Having spent these days in the capital city, Meng Zhang had almost completely familiarized himself with the geographical environment.
He quickly arrived at his destination, outside the state guesthouse.
Elite soldiers of the Imperial Guards were stationed around the guesthouse.
To demonstrate their high regard for the Sea Spirit Sect's diplomatic envoy, Ba Wudi had specially dispatched several Primordial Spirit cultivators from the imperial palace to strengthen the security here.
Ordinary pedestrians and idlers were driven away by patrolling Imperial Guards before they could approach the state guesthouse.
Meng Zhang presented his identity as a member of the Five Punishments Guard and successfully passed through the inquiry of the patrolling guards, making his way through the perimeter of the state guesthouse to the exterior of a high wall.
Inside the high wall was where the Sea Spirit Sect's diplomatic envoy was lodged.
Upon reaching this point, Meng Zhang was halted by the guarding soldiers.
At this juncture, his identity as a member of the Five Punishments Guard wasn't of much use.
The Imperial Guards and the Five Punishments Guard were not under the same command, so even if they showed him no respect, he had no means of recourse.
Besides Meng Zhang, there were several other cultivators beside him who were also stopped by the guarding soldiers.
To enter inside and visit the Sea Spirit Sect's cultivators, one needed the permission of the Sea Spirit Sect's cultivators.
Cultivators from major sects like the Sea Spirit Sect weren't particularly approachable. On the contrary, they disliked being bothered by unrelated individuals.
Thus, the guarding soldiers, who had been given instructions beforehand, followed their orders strictly and prevented all unrelated people from entering.
No matter how high their status might be in the Dali Dynasty, if they had no connection to the Sea Spirit Sect's cultivators, and didn't receive their permission, they were basically unable to enter.
Meng Zhang noticed among those blocked from entering that there were individuals with profound Cultivation Bases and notable statuses.
Especially conspicuous was a carriage not far away, which in terms of its design was clearly associated with members of the royal family.
However, the owner of the carriage was still held back by the guards. The Imperial Guards were acting on imperial orders, and there were experts from the imperial palace among them, giving them sufficient confidence to not have to show deference to anyone.
Seeing this scene, Meng Zhang felt a bit uneasy and didn't know if Lu Tianshu True Monarch's reputation would work in his favor.
If the cultivators of the Sea Spirit Sect refused to meet with him, he would have no choice but to turn back.
Meng Zhang called over a guarding soldier and asked him to inform the Sea Spirit Sect's diplomatic envoy that Lu Tianshu True Monarch's friend, Meng Zhang of Taiyi Sect, had come to visit.
The guarding soldier gave Meng Zhang a puzzled look before informing him to wait there and then went to relay the message inside.
After a short while, the guarding soldier came back out.
With a respectful gesture, he signaled to Meng Zhang and courteously ushered him in.
Most of the other cultivators who had been blocked from entering were individuals who wanted to meet with the Sea Spirit Sect's cultivators for various reasons but were denied entry.
The ease with which Meng Zhang gained entry left them rather surprised.
The Sea Spirit Sect was far away in the South Sea, spanning countless miles from the Dali Dynasty.
For a cultivator from the Dali Dynasty to establish contact or connections with those from the Sea Spirit Sect wasn't an easy task.
The guarding soldier guided Meng Zhang through the high walls and then left.
Inside the walls was where the Sea Spirit Sect's diplomatic envoy resided. In order to demonstrate adequate respect, the Dali Dynasty officials had set aside a space for the Sea Spirit Sect's cultivators to ensure their privacy.
Almost immediately after the guiding guarding soldier departed, an elderly man emerged from the main hall and approached Meng Zhang.
Within the high walls, there were numerous independent courtyards and halls interspersed with pavilions and terraces.
The elderly man walked up to Meng Zhang, saying, "This True Monarch Meng, you claim to be a friend of Senior Lu…?"
Evidently, even though he allowed Meng Zhang inside, he still harbored some doubt about Meng Zhang's claims.
Both the elderly man and Meng Zhang were at the mid-level of the Primordial Spirit stage, both having Cultivation Bases of this level. Yet, as a cultivator of the Sea Spirit Sect, Meng Zhang didn't dare to be disrespectful.
"While I was in the Heavenly Palace, I once served under Grandma Qiansi for a period of time. It was during that time that I had the honor of getting to know Senior Lu Tianshu."
"Later on, Senior Lu and I had an experience of journeying into the extraterritorial void together, where I was fortunate to witness Senior Lu's magnificent battle against the cultivators from Guarding Sea Temple."
Meng Zhang spoke as if recounting a genuine experience and also brought up the figure of Grandma Qiansi, a great power at the Return to Emptiness stage.
Grandma Qiansi had a close connection with the Sea Spirit Sect. Although it wasn't particularly secretive, it wasn't something known to everyone unrelated either. If Meng Zhang's explanation was fabricated, it wouldn't just offend the Sea Spirit Sect but also disrespect Grandma Qiansi.
The elderly man was mostly convinced by Meng Zhang's explanation.
"I am You Mingde, responsible for various tasks within the diplomatic envoy. Since True Monarch Meng is a friend of Senior Lu, you're not an outsider. Please come in quickly."
You Mingde's attitude toward Meng Zhang suddenly became much warmer, and he courteously led him into a reception hall.
Not only in the Sea Spirit Sect but even within the Holy Land Sect, a late-stage Primordial Spirit cultivator wouldn't have a low status.
Despite the fact that Lu Tianshu was respectful toward Grandma Qiansi as a junior, he held a high position within the Sea Spirit Sect.
Since Meng Zhang was a friend of Lu Tianshu, You Mingde naturally wouldn't easily offend him.
Once Meng Zhang was brought into the hall, You Mingde engaged in small talk with him.
After a brief conversation, Meng Zhang gave a detailed account of how he had become acquainted with Lu Tianshu.
Apart from escaping from the hand of a Return to Emptiness great power of Guarding Sea Temple and killing a Guarding Sea Temple cultivator alongside Lu Tianshu, Meng Zhang shared almost everything he could.
With these details as a reference, Meng Zhang's words sounded more believable.
Though his contact with Lu Tianshu hadn't been very long, Meng Zhang had some understanding of the man.
After chatting for a while, You Mingde began to trust Meng Zhang more and his attitude became friendlier.
"The leaders of our diplomatic envoy were originally Senior Mei Tianxiang and Senior Lu Tianshu."
"However, Senior Mei Tianxiang is a fanatic when it comes to cultivation. He's always in seclusion, just focusing on practicing. He arrived here, exchanged some words with the people of the Dali Dynasty, and then immediately returned to seclusion."
"With all the miscellaneous matters of the diplomatic envoy falling on my shoulders, it's even difficult for me to see Senior Mei in person."
"While on the journey here, Senior Lu had to temporarily leave due to some matters. He needs some time before he can join us."
You Mingde's words were partly complaints and partly explanations. He shared a lot of information with Meng Zhang.
His mention of Lu Tianshu's impending arrival was also a sort of test on Meng Zhang's part.
Seeing that Meng Zhang had no unusual reaction, You Mingde felt reassured.
As for Mei Tianxiang, the Sea Spirit Sect's prominent cultivator, he was known to be strong-willed and arrogant. He looked down upon ordinary cultivators of the Dali Dynasty and rarely bothered to interact with unfamiliar individuals.
