Chapter 1444: Chapter 682: Kunlun Irregulars

Tang Xian’er gazed intently and saw that the group of meteors did not rise from the eastern Sichuan Basin but from the mighty and cloud-piercing Kunlun Peaks to the west. At first glance, there were hundreds, if not thousands, pulling forth bright clouds from the horizon, splitting into two, then four, then eight, instantaneously forming eight columns. It was akin to an unfolding divination, surrounding the mountain city gate from all directions.

Getting closer, it was clearly visible that these figures rode the light, dressed in either green robes or blue gowns, mostly in Taoist attire, clad in tattered ancient armor, holding ancient eight-sided swords. Dust-covered and weary, they resembled a group of beggars who had just robbed a grand tomb of the Immortal Palace, emerging from the earth.

Though their appearances were rather shabby, their strength was alarmingly formidable. Each column had over a hundred Nascent Soul True Practitioners, with at least one Divinity Transformation God Monarch holding the formation. Each Nascent Soul was a millennia-refined Dao Power practitioner, and if they were indeed Mystic Sect People, such combat power would be quite overpowering. Unless a Ten Extremes Supreme-level powerhouse personally intervened, even if the Divine Sect had more mechas, they would merely offer their heads.

"Old lady Tang! Aren’t you coming into the array yet! Have you gone senile! Those are Demon Sects! Standing outside waiting to die?"

Upon hearing the altar master’s call, Tang Xian’er snapped back to reality, hesitating momentarily, looking towards the Blood God’s Son beckoning her from the city,

"Altar master, we’re all fellow villagers. I’ve even given you pickles and cured meat. You wouldn’t skin my hide, right?"

The altar master was also anxious,

"Who wants your old hide! Come if you want! If not, I’m closing the gate!"

Tang Xian’er hesitated for a moment but then looked at the Dragon Scale Treasure Sword in her hand and the still trapped Heng Mountain female crown being chased around inside the array. She clenched her teeth and stomped her foot,

"Alright! One more gamble! Let’s go!"

The cow frog immediately jumped into the array, and the altar master summoned a blood light as if drawing a scarlet curtain of silk, enveloping the town in crimson twilight.

The Mystic Sect people, seemingly unsure of their intentions, did not rush to charge into the city for rescue. Instead, they steadied their formation, concealing their heavenly mechanisms, setting up an Eight Trigrams Array to counterattack the Divine Sect, seemingly determined to leave no one from the city alive.

Tang Xian’er cautiously used toxic smoke to shield herself, addressing the altar master who maintained the law array,

"Are these truly Demon Sects? Wasn’t it said they were all exterminated by the Divine Sect?"

The altar master gazed at the soaring Daoist energy from all directions, with a serious expression and great pressure. After all, he knew well that despite having several blood puppet avatars, appearing like Divinity Transformation yet being mere minnows, it was impossible to withstand so many Divine Monarchs combined.

Looking at the elderly lady beside him, though unreliable, considering she was an acquaintance for hundreds of years with her Tang Family under his jurisdiction, she wouldn’t dare act recklessly. Moreover, with her Gu Poison Secret Technique, Divinity Transformation combat power, she was indeed a crucial ally currently. He nodded and frankly spoke.

"To be honest, extermination was just political propaganda; in truth, some Demon Sect remnants survived."

Tang Xian’er looked at the sky full of Flying Stars and the rising grand array, expressing skepticism,

"Well yes, but aren’t these remnants a bit too many..."

The altar master was also helpless, recounting the bygone days from back then.

"Back then, our Divine Sect, with the Sect Hierarch and Northern Venerable Master emerging, swept away the Demons, suppressed the Cloud Platform, dominating the world. But among the Three Great Sects, our sect had the weakest influence, with overall strength slightly inferior to the Demon Sect. Thus, the Demon Sect launched two large-scale offensives, advancing all the way to the Tianshan Bright Summit.

The first was during the apex battle when the Sect Hierarch, with the Ten Extremes Venerable Master, was engaged in a peak battle with the nine great Demon Sect Leaders at Cloud Platform. The Demon Sect’s key elites surprisingly raided our Bright Summit home! In the end, it was the Holy Daughter, who relied on the Ten Absolute Array to delay until the Sect Hierarch won the magic battle and the many Venerable Masters rushed a thousand miles to secure victory!

The second time, the Demon Sect was even more aggressive, mobilizing all forces, launching a massive offensive! Our Divine Sect naturally gathered heroes from all over the world for a direct confrontation! That battle was earth-shattering, weeping ghosts and gods!

But even with full preparations, we were almost overwhelmed by the Demon Sect, which advanced relentlessly, breaking through three lines before barely stopping their momentum, yet unable to capture them. Led by Emei’s Old Demon Cangsong, the remnants broke through.

Although we won the second battle too, the Demon Sect, skilled in strategic calculations, never fought battles without victory assurance. Moreover, amidst calamity, everyone had a chance, and even in dire straits, there should be a slim hope. So when we reviewed the aftermath, we discovered a third Mystic Sect detachment had existed.

This detachment seemingly intended to take the Kunlun Mountain Road for a flanking assault and indeed managed to deceive us, eluding our calculations. However, perhaps due to veering too far, they were trapped in the mountains, lost, delaying their timing.

Heaven certainly favored the Divine Sect; otherwise, if this Demon Sect surprise force had struck timely from the Kunlun flank, attacking from both fronts, the outcome would have been unknown."

Tang Xian’er understood, yet didn’t understand,

"Are you saying the people appearing now are actually the Mystic Sect detachment that lost their way in Kunlun Mountain back then? No way, can someone lose their way for five hundred years?"

The altar master affirmed solemnly,

"I fear it’s precisely them. Based on the intelligence we gathered after capturing the Demon Sect Daoist fields, we surmise most of this third team were newly inducted True Inheritors from various Daoist inheritances, who joined the Demon Sect. Their strength was inherently lacking and not pivotal to the broader situation, allowing them to remain hidden in the grand scheme.
