Some even started asking about Nancy Hughes’s family background. They recalled that there didn’t seem to be any prominent Hughes families in Portmire.

So where did this Nancy Hughes appear from?

"Sorry, my girlfriend is a bit shy and not much of a talker." Dylan Heston held Nancy Hughes even tighter, and the smile on Nancy’s lips became even more rigid.

Seeing how sweet the couple was, the others took the hint and left.

A moment ago, she was so nervous that she’d forgotten to keep her distance from Dylan Heston and had actively pressed herself against him.

Now, she tried to quickly move away, but Dylan forcefully pulled her back into his arms.

She looked up just in time to meet his downward gaze. A smirk played on his lips. "You looked really cute when you were nervous just now."

Nancy Hughes’s mind exploded into mush. ’Cute? And that smile of his is practically cheating.’

’What’s so cute about me?’

The ears beneath her dark hair grew hotter and hotter, until her whole body started to sweat.

’Why is it getting so hot so early this year?’

By the time they were done at the art museum, almost everyone who knew Dylan Heston was aware of her existence.

Her appearance must have made quite an impact on them.

They all whispered about her behind her back, staring at her with strange looks.

"Don’t mind them!"

Nancy Hughes pouted. ’Easy for him to say.’

After walking around the art museum for over two hours, she was exhausted by the time they got back to the car. She fell asleep not long after.

When she woke up, she found herself back in her apartment.

Blue was sitting on the floor beside her, meowing at her. She got up and wandered around, but there was no one in the apartment.

She guessed Dylan Heston had probably gone home.

’Have I been trusting Dylan Heston too much?’

Not seeing him around, she went back to her room to sleep some more.

The next time she woke up, it was Dylan Heston who woke her.

She had been sleeping soundly when she heard his voice. Opening her eyes to see him, she thought she was dreaming.

"Why are you here again? So annoying!" She waved a hand irritably in front of Dylan Heston’s face, still incredibly sleepy.

Dylan Heston just smiled. The more he looked at Nancy Hughes, the more amusing he found her.

"Still not awake? The sun’s already gone down!"

Dylan Heston sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to brush aside her messy hair. Nancy Hughes mumbled softly, then her eyes flew open, catching a glimpse of him in her peripheral vision.

She shot up in bed. "What are you doing here?"

"If I’m not here, where else should I be?"

Nancy Hughes stammered for a moment before looking at him, defeated. ’You should be at your home,’ she thought sullenly, ’not in my bedroom.’

Dylan Heston didn’t tease her further, acting like a proper gentleman.

Seeing a table full of food, she figured he must have made it all.

She took a bite. It tasted pretty good. She lowered her head and shoveled some rice into her mouth. ’What’s the use of a man knowing how to cook so well?’

After dinner, Nancy Hughes was washing dishes in the kitchen when she heard the sound of the TV from the living room.

She let the faucet run, lost in thought. ’Are she and Dylan Heston considered to be dating now?’

’Does it count? He publicly admitted she was his girlfriend today. If news travels fast, probably everyone knows they’re a couple.’

’But then again,’ she thought, ’it probably doesn’t count, because I haven’t even agreed yet!’

The sink was about to overflow. She frantically turned off the faucet and went back to washing the dishes.

Why did it feel like she and Dylan had skipped all the steps and were already in a long-term, live-in relationship?

In the living room, the TV was on, Blue was still asleep on the sofa, but Dylan Heston was nowhere to be seen.

She glanced around and spotted him on the balcony.

He was standing outside on the phone. He talked for a long time before coming back in.

It had started raining at some point, and his clothes were dotted with fine water droplets.

"Wait, let me get a towel for your clothes." She stood up hurriedly and headed for the bathroom.

She brought back a clean towel and handed it to him. "Here, you should dry off."

Dylan Heston took the towel, and in the same motion, grabbed her hand and pulled her into his embrace.

He lowered his head to kiss her, but Nancy Hughes covered his mouth with her hand. "Dylan, don’t..."

"I’m not ready."

His breath felt incredibly hot against her palm, sending tingling sensations through it.
