Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 364 - 348: Mommy’s Angry, How Should Daddy Coax Her? 2
At this critical moment, something else happened at the project site.
The site not only included a stretch of sea but also a residential area.
The residents had lived there for decades. Before construction began, Erin Irving had sent people to negotiate their relocation.
Some were happy to receive a large sum of money, while others were unwilling to move.
Those willing to leave were given money. For those who weren’t, some forceful methods were used.
Right at this crucial juncture, a large group of people suddenly appeared, causing a scene in front of a government building, and it even made the news.
With such a commotion, some things he had wanted to keep hidden could no longer be concealed.
Because of this, Erin Irving personally accepted an interview.
During the interview, he stated his willingness to provide a large amount of compensation to the original residents and issued a public apology.
Just when he had finally managed to smooth things over, the issue of land reclamation was dug up by reporters.
This area of the sea contained a natural shallow bay where large numbers of nationally protected animals came to rest during the summer and autumn seasons.
When Cedric Lynch learned of this, he demanded that Erin Irving halt the project.
"The land reclamation permit will never be approved. You have to stop this project!"
"It’s too late to stop!" ’Is he kidding me?’ He had already invested nearly half of the company’s entire capital into it.
If it were suspended now, all his hard work would be for naught.
"President Irving, it’s best to stop before you incur a total loss. This project was problematic from the start. Quincy Rhodes never should have signed off on it." Cedric Lynch took several files from his drawer. "Take these documents and look them over first."
As soon as Erin Irving got into the car, he tore open the file Cedric Lynch had given him.
Inside were some documents that Quincy Rhodes had handled during her tenure.
They were related to this project, and they clearly documented Quincy Rhodes accepting bribes.
’Damn it. This means she knew the project would have certain consequences, but she signed off on it anyway.’
Rage surged from within him. He slammed the file down. "Drive! Back to the company!"
The assistant in the front seat glanced at the man in the back, then quietly pressed the accelerator and drove off.
The land reclamation issue escalated. Environmentalists stood outside Erin Irving’s company every day, protesting and demanding that the project be halted to protect the environment.
Erin Irving saw the large crowd holding signs and protesting at the company entrance as he got out of his car.
He roared at the security guards at the gate, "What do I pay you for? You’re a bunch of good-for-nothings! There’s a crowd at the gate, don’t you know how to get rid of them?!"
Among the protesters were many reporters, who captured Erin Irving’s outburst on camera.
The elegant young master, for the first time, revealed his volatile side in front of the press. Reporters’ cameras furiously snapped away, and the scene was published in the news.
The internet is so advanced now that what happened was uploaded and seen by everyone in just a few seconds.
Erin Irving realized he had lost control. He clenched his fists and returned to the car.
His assistant looked at him in surprise. "President Irving, you..."
Erin Irving said irritably, "Just drive."
Without a destination, the assistant drove around aimlessly for half an hour until Erin Irving suddenly blurted out an address.
The place Erin Irving mentioned was a bit far from the company; it took forty minutes to get there.
Upon arriving, as the assistant was about to get out with him, the man in the back seat spoke. "Stay in the car. You don’t need to follow me!"
"Yes, sir."
In the art studio, Georgia Thorne’s mouth was a little dry from talking. She took a sip of water and happened to see a message from Elliot Sheridan.
He had sent a "What are you doing?" and Georgia’s heart fluttered with delight. She replied.
"I’m working hard, unlike someone who’s slacking off and bothering people all day."
Just as the message was sent, a reply came back immediately.
"Mm, I like bothering you!"
When Georgia Thorne saw this, she almost spat out the water she had just drunk, coughing repeatedly.
"Come on, that’s not the point I was trying to make!"
"What, so you’d rather I go bother some other woman? Hmm?"
Elliot Sheridan’s questions kept circling back to that. Georgia quickly typed, "You dare!"
Adding a threatening emoji, Elliot Sheridan quickly replied, "I really don’t dare. I’m afraid I won’t have a bed to sleep in tonight."
"As long as you know!"
Georgia Thorne giggled foolishly at her phone screen, her cheeks flushed.
She was completely unaware that someone was watching her from the doorway.
Not until he was right next to her and snatched the phone from her hand. Georgia Thorne gasped and met Erin Irving’s gaze. "What are you doing here?!"
Erin Irving grabbed her phone, glanced at her conversation with Elliot Sheridan, and frowned disdainfully. "What, I can’t come over?"
Georgia Thorne’s delicate brows knitted in anger. The phone screen was still open, displaying her entire chat history with Elliot Sheridan.
’He’s actually brazenly reading my private messages right in front of me.’ "Give me back my phone."
Erin Irving held the phone up high. "Fine. First, you have to promise me one thing."
"Ugh..."
Georgia Thorne’s expression turned icy. "Erin Irving, what on earth are you trying to do?!"
Seeing Georgia Thorne angry seemed to make all of Erin Irving’s own irritability vanish, and his mood brightened.
"Nothing. I just want you to have a cup of tea with me."
Georgia was about to refuse, but Erin Irving quickly cut her off. "What, you have time to chat with Elliot Sheridan, but you don’t have time for tea with me?"
Georgia Thorne was rendered speechless by his words, her eyes wide.
Just then, Evan Shelby came in from outside and saw Erin Irving. "And this gentleman is?"
Erin Irving was a smooth talker. Seeing Evan Shelby, he immediately said, "I’m a friend of Georgia’s. I came all this way from out of town specifically to see her today, but she told me she has to watch these kids and has no time for me. Teacher, you see..."
"That’s not true, Teacher Shepherd, don’t listen to his non—"
"Teacher Shepherd, can’t you give Georgia a half-day off? We’ll just chat for a little while and be back soon."
"Georgia, just go out with your friend. It’s not easy for him to come all this way to see you. Go on, go on!"
As Evan Shelby spoke, he nudged Georgia Thorne out the door to go and relax with her friend.
"No, Teacher Shepherd, he’s not my friend!"
"Just go. I can watch the children. Have fun with your friend!"
Evan Shelby pushed Georgia Thorne to the doorway and waved at her.
Georgia Thorne was about to die from frustration with Evan Shelby. ’Couldn’t he see she was blinking her eyes sore trying to signal him?’
The real culprit was the man beside her. Georgia angrily strode ahead. Erin Irving, who she had left far behind, caught up in a few large strides and kept pace with her.
He hummed a cheerful little tune. "We’re just going for a cup of tea. No need to be so angry."
After Georgia Thorne and Erin Irving left, Evan Shelby belatedly realized that Erin Irving’s face looked very familiar, as if he had seen it on TV a lot these past couple of days.
He turned on the TV, and after seeing the news, he slapped his forehead. ’Isn’t that the guy who’s been embroiled in negative press recently?’
There was a bubble tea shop near the studio. Georgia Thorne ordered a glass of water and looked at Erin Irving across from her.
Erin Irving looked at the bubble tea shop’s environment with a disgusted expression, clearly dissatisfied with the place.
It didn’t even have a proper menu, and more importantly, it was crowded with other customers.
Seeing that he remained silent, Georgia Thorne said, "President Irving, if you find this place unsatisfactory, then please feel free to leave!"
At four months pregnant, it was perfectly normal for the baby to kick, yet the man before her was dead serious as he asked if she needed to go to the hospital.
Georgia Thorne didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, managing a smile that looked worse than a grimace. "It’s fine. It’ll stop hurting in a moment!"
Even though Georgia Thorne said that, Elliot Sheridan was still worried.
When they got home, he made Georgia Thorne sit obediently and wouldn’t let her do a single thing.
Georgia Thorne wanted a glass of water, but the moment she stood up, the man snapped, "Sit down! Don’t move!"
"I want a glass of water."
Elliot Sheridan was being overly anxious about Georgia Thorne. He walked over with a glass of warm water.
"Be careful."
Georgia Thorne took the water and had a sip. "Aren’t you being a little too nervous?"
Elliot Sheridan sat down beside her and admitted honestly, "I’m very nervous."
Georgia Thorne’s pregnancy made him both happy and nervous.
About to become a father, he had no idea what he was supposed to do.
Georgia Thorne took his hand, tilted her face up to look at his handsome features, and said, "It’s my first time being a mother, too. We can face whatever comes together. You’re so nervous, you’re making me nervous!"
His grip was strong, his dry palm enveloping the back of her hand. "I will be a good husband and a good father."
Georgia Thorne snuggled closer, resting her chin on his shoulder and wrapping her slender white arms around his neck. "Right now, your wife is very tired. Could I trouble Mr. Sheridan to carry me to bed to rest?"
Her eyes darted toward the bed, signaling him to hurry up and carry her.
The distance from the sofa to the bed was just over a meter. Georgia Thorne kicked off her cotton slippers, propped her feet on Elliot Sheridan’s lap, and squirmed.
"What did you call me?" His large hand slid under Georgia Thorne’s knees, pulling her tighter into his embrace, but he showed no intention of getting up.
Georgia Thorne squirmed again, pressing close to his ear and cooing, "My darling husband!"
That form of address was very pleasing to Elliot Sheridan. He scooped Georgia Thorne up and strode toward the bed.
She had been woken up by Elliot Sheridan early this morning and was severely sleep-deprived. Now that drowsiness was setting in, she could finally get some more sleep.
