Chapter 383: Touche [1300 GT Bonus]
Chapter 383: Touche [1300 GT Bonus]
If the War Head was a key, and they knew it was a key, then why did they want to kill it so bad? Because it was terrorizing their city? It didn’t seem like it. It seemed like everything was quite contained. Even when the Rotting War Head started mass spawning zombies and rotting flesh, it had all remained within the barriers of the ruin.
"Do you know what Spirit was tormenting the Rotting War Head?" Grey asked.
"No, we do not." Joelle shook her head.
Grey’s gaze flickered. He, of course, did know. It was the Mechanical Jaw Spirit.
In that case, it was more likely that the War Head had been trying to establish connection with the Old Ones, while the Mechanical Jaw Spirit was trying to stop it.
By defeating it, Grey had probably tossed something into a bit of an imbalance and the Mechanical Jaw Spirit chose coming with him over maintaining that balance for the world instead.
That made sense. From everything Grey knew, the Savage Races had always been opposed to the Dark Kin. He had known that from the moment he watched Esmeralda and the vampire pimp interact.
However, while that might explain what was going on that triggered the sinkhole, it didn’t explain why the Holy Knights of this city in particular were so interested in taking it out.
"If you knew this sinkhole would happen, why were you sending expedition teams to take it out?" Grey asked.
"This..." Joelle hesitated.
She wasn’t the only one who looked uncomfortable. In fact, a lot of them did.
Grey’s eyes narrowed. Well, this was an interesting storyline, now wasn’t it?
He suddenly wasn’t nearly as interested in finding out what was going on with the Recursive Frame right now. He was a lot more interested in finding out just what the Mechanical Jaw Spirit was guarding with its last breath.
And hidden in that was another curiosity.
This idea of taking over a body sounded very interesting. How had the Mechanical Jaw Spirit managed to do that? Was that something all Spirits were capable of? And if not, what about the Mechanical Jaw Spirit made that possible?
The ground rumbled a bit and Grey looked up from Joelle.
A carriage was rolling over from the distance. It came to a slow stop ahead of them.
The driver stepped off and opened the door, only for a young man to step out.
Grey had been gearing up to see another beauty, but when he saw it was a man, he was speechless.
’A grown ass man letting another man open the door for him, what the fuck is this?’
Grey almost smacked his forehead when it wasn’t just one man, but two that came out.
"What are we doing here, man?"
Joelle blinked, her look of fear shifting to confusion when she heard Grey’s words. But it was already too late for her to say too much.
She hurried forward and respectfully bowed.
"Young master Enphro. Young Forsaken."
The other Holy Knights bowed as well.
Both young men were quite skinny, but the one they called "Young Forsaken" was especially so. His eyes were so sunk in his head Grey almost attacked again, thinking a zombie had slipped through the gates like he had.
On top of that, his eyes were so squinted it looked like the sun hurt him or like he had a permanent smile on his face despite his creepy, bony features.
Grey wasn’t being racist, he swore. The man didn’t have a single Asian feature. He was quite literally squinting his eyes on purpose like it was a cosmetic choice.
The other, Young Master Enphro, was on the healthier side of skinny, but he had a ring to every finger and an anti-christ cross hanging from both his ears.
His robes hung half open, only shrugged onto one shoulder while the other sleeve nearly dragged to the ground. He wore a fishnet undergarment that did nothing to stop one of his nipples from sticking out of their mesh like he was trying to cut glass.
Honestly, Grey couldn’t tell if that was really his style of dress or if he had just rolled out of bed. But then again, who wore fishnets to bed, that sounded uncomfortable as hell.
’Wait, Enphro? I feel like I’ve heard that before...’ Grey thought a bit aimlessly for a second before it clicked.
The Dukedoms. There were two of them.
The first was the Valdi, and the second was...
’The Enphro.’
That wasn’t all. The bony one was called "Young Forsaken". Grey recognized that naming scheme.
He had fought the disciple of The Relentless before. Was this dude the disciple of one of the other Guardians of the Main Church?
’My luck is great.’ Grey thought with a chuckle.
This time, he wasn’t actually being sarcastic. If these two were here, then it probably meant something quite good. This should be a very interesting Instance to be sure.
Plus, Grey planned on getting back to that city soon enough. He had revenge to get and a Quest to clear as well. Whatever happened with these two here, he would be sure to make that worthwhile.
’There’s also him.’
Grey looked at the back of the carriage driver who was in the process of wiping down the carriage. He looked like a normal worker, but Grey felt a great amount of pressure coming from him.
He just might be in the Command Class... now that... that was quite interesting.
Grey looked away before the older man looked back at him, his gaze landed on the two young men who had ignored Joelle and the others to stop in front of him.
"Who are you?" The Enphro asked with a slight tilt of his head.
Grey chuckled. "You haven’t heard of introducing yourselves first?"
"Well, they already did that for us, no?" he said with a blink.
"Touche." Grey said with a nod. "I am Grey, Paladin of Zone 234."
