Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 394 - 392: One More Shot
The data on the lab’s large screen was fluctuating wildly. In the chair, Faye Yardley endured the searing pain coursing through her body, but all that was visible was her slightly furrowed brow—not a single bead of cold sweat.
Jay Jonas and Zachary Pierce had both experienced it before, and seeing Faye Yardley’s state, they couldn’t help but feel a knot of anxiety tighten in their chests.
"Pierce, do you think Yardley’s Attributes are just too high? Why is her physical reaction so different from everyone else’s?"
Zachary Pierce kept his eyes fixed on Faye Yardley, but still answered the question. "Perhaps. She’s... far ahead of us."
’She pushes herself too hard,’ he thought. ’That delicate girl from the beginning has, in just a hundred days, become more powerful than any of us. The amount of hardship she must have endured is unimaginable.’
"To stay in first place, that young woman’s willpower and resilience must be truly extraordinary."
Faye Yardley had subconsciously begun to circulate the Health Care Scripture. But as she did, the searing energy grew even more violent and scorching. She honestly felt like she was about to explode.
The pain became so intense that "pain" itself was just a word.
As the searing energy invaded, the Illusion Magic Group in her dantian began to emit wisps of frigid energy.
If she only had to fight the heat before, now she had to fight the cold as well.
The two energies, one hot and one cold, began to tear at and entangle each other within Faye Yardley’s body. Pain had devolved into a mere concept.
"Ethan, your sister isn’t home. After she came back from the sea, I haven’t seen her come downstairs. She must have left directly from there."
"Alright. Thanks, Willow."
’My sister is pushing herself way too hard,’ Ethan Yardley thought. ’Does she really have so much to do that it never ends?’
’At this rate, when will I ever become strong enough to be her main support?’
’I’m not really going to be living off my sister forever, am I?’
Gritting his teeth, Ethan Yardley dialed Zachary Pierce’s number.
When the call connected, Ethan Yardley learned that his sister had beaten him to it and was already undergoing the attribute enhancement experiment.
Without another word, he had Zachary Pierce invite him over. He needed to keep an eye on his sister.
As soon as he arrived, he heard all the researchers in the lab saying that his sister’s data was completely abnormal, unlike anyone they had ever seen before.
The last person with a majorly different reaction was Logan Langdon, but no one expected Faye Yardley’s data to fluctuate so drastically.
Furthermore, the energy from the injected elixir was being consumed at an accelerating rate, dispersed and devoured by another energy within her body. They had no idea how much it was actually enhancing her; the data had already devolved into a garbled mess.
Ethan Yardley stared nervously at his sister through the protective glass.
"Mr. Ethan, don’t worry. Yardley will be fine."
Zachary Pierce had just offered this bit of comfort when the head of the experiment team came over and asked him, "Pierce, should we give Miss Yardley another shot?"
Ethan Yardley whipped his head around to stare at him. ’Can’t you see my sister’s in a bad state in there? And you want to give her another shot? What for? Is your experiment more important than my sister?!’
The team lead, startled by his glare, couldn’t help but take a step back, but he held his ground. "It’s obvious that the energy inside Miss Yardley’s body is winning. We need to supplement it with a bit more energy..."
"No!"
Zachary Pierce looked at Ethan Yardley’s resolute expression, then shook his head at the team lead. "Let’s observe the situation a bit longer. The energy inside her is already her own. We can’t just add more external energy before the last dose has even been assimilated. If it ends up suppressing her original energy, we’d be doing more harm than good."
To be honest, Zachary Pierce also preferred a more conservative approach.
With no one supporting him, the team lead felt it was a great pity. Even if he wanted to go in and administer the elixir himself, it would be useless if the needle couldn’t even pierce her skin.
While those outside worried anxiously, inside, Faye Yardley’s eyes snapped open. A faint blue-violet light flickered in their depths. She lifted her gaze and met her brother’s worried, anxious eyes through the protective glass. A smile tugged at her lips, but her words were for someone else: "Give me another shot."
The team lead was ecstatic. "Pierce, here! Go quickly! Miss Yardley’s current state clearly requires a supplement of external energy."
Zachary Pierce took the elixir, glanced at Ethan Yardley, and then quickly went inside. He walked up to Faye Yardley. "Are you sure?"
"Yes."
Zachary Pierce couldn’t help but worry. "If you can’t take it, you have to say so."
"Okay."
The elixir was pushed into her right arm. She had thought pain had become a numb, meaningless symbol, but she never imagined it could come surging back like a ferocious tide.
’Is there a limit to pain?’
Faye Yardley’s experience was that there was none. The problem was, despite the excruciating pain, her mind remained perfectly clear. There was no sign of her fainting to trigger her body’s self-preservation instincts.
So, with a high Constitution, her tolerance for pain was also elevated.
The moment the door opened, a blast of cold wind rushed into the house. Kyle Lewis couldn’t help but turn his head, shrink his neck, and pull his clothes tighter around himself. He strained to see the wind outside, which carried a blue-white tint, and hurriedly said, "Donovan, get in quick! It’s too cold out there."
Gavin Donovan grunted in agreement, strode into the house, and shut the door. Kyle Lewis, already shivering from the cold, scurried over to the fireplace. Behind the soft cushion he was sitting on, a Fire Pit was also burning.
"What’s wrong with you? You don’t look right. You weren’t this weak last time I saw you. Are you sick?" Gavin Donovan found Kyle Lewis’s condition to be extremely abnormal. After one’s Attributes increased, their resistance to cold should also increase. Yet he looked as frail as he did before entering this World of Ocean Survival.
A complex expression flickered across Kyle Lewis’s face. Seeing Gavin Donovan’s concern, his nose tingled, and he felt the urge to cry. "Donovan, all the attribute values I worked so hard to get are gone. Everything’s back to how it was at the very beginning."
???
Gavin Donovan was stunned. "What did you do? Did the System strip you of your Strength?"
’That shouldn’t be possible,’ he thought. ’Even people who go to an island and give up the System still keep the attributes they’ve already raised. They become their own inherent abilities. Why is Kyle Lewis different?’
’So he wants to join a guild for protection. But in that case, wouldn’t it be better to go to the boss’s island?’
"Before my mom went to Langdon Isle, she left something for me. I was thinking that since it’s too cold to fish for treasure chests and my raft isn’t getting attacked anymore, I’d take it out and use it. But then... my Strength just drained away, bit by bit. I had no idea that pill would turn me back into a normal person." Kyle Lewis was on the verge of a complete breakdown. "And I can’t even go to an island anymore, otherwise I would have gone straight to Miss Yardley."
"What kind of elixir is that powerful?"
"A Qualification Enhancement Pill."
Gavin Donovan was speechless. "An elixir that the System confirmed had no issues?"
"Yes." Kyle Lewis was truly at a loss. In his current state, he had no idea how he was going to survive on this vast, endless ocean.
The temperature outside seemed to drop lower each day, and he had no resistance to it at all.
"Do you have any more of those elixirs? Or did you happen to take a screenshot of the system information before you took it?"
Kyle Lewis just shook his head blankly.
