Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts

Chapter 365: Deep-sea Seaweed: I Don’t Know Much, Don’t Lie to Me

  • Next Chapter

Lucy White was enveloped by the protective shield of the Water-Repelling Pearl. Everything she saw in the ocean felt magical.

Previously, she had either fished with nets while riding Bella or had to swim back to the surface for air after just a short time in the water.

This sensation was truly novel.

Faye Yardley followed Blackwood, swimming down and forward, to the left of the raft.

Sure enough, there were many more oversized marine creatures below, every single one of them highly aggressive. Strangely, their meat showed no signs of contamination.

Faye Yardley didn’t even have to lift a finger; Lucy White and Cole Kensington took care of them all. Her only job was to collect the creatures they hunted into her backpack.

After they had been diving for nearly an hour, Faye Yardley urged the other two to return to the surface. But they ended up dawdling for another half an hour before finally heading up.

As for Faye Yardley and Blackwood, they, of course, continued the search.

She also harvested plenty of crabs, shrimp, various kinds of fish, as well as squid and cuttlefish.

’Tsk, tsk. Honestly, living on the sea every day, I’m getting sick of seafood. If I don’t come across something special, I just can’t get excited about it anymore.’

’Even if you dine on the finest delicacies every day, you’ll eventually miss plain old greens and radishes.’

’Encountering something this rare naturally brings a sense of novelty.’

’But once you’ve seen too many, the excitement fades.’

That was exactly how Faye Yardley felt. If she weren’t thinking about a potential energy source, she would’ve already turned back.

’Blackwood, on the other hand, seems completely at ease in the ocean, swimming around joyfully.’

"Blackwood, still want to keep going down?"

"MEOW~"

Since Blackwood wanted to keep going, Faye Yardley followed.

As she continued to dive, the surroundings shifted from darkness back to a faint glow. The scene before her was like a familiar dream.

A huge swarm of glowing peach blossom jellyfish appeared before her, in shades of faint pink, light blue, and soft yellow...

The multicolored, glowing jellyfish transformed this stretch of ocean into a fantastical underwater world.

Small, glowing fish and shrimp also darted back and forth among the swarm of jellyfish.

Farther below was a field of seagrass. ’Have I reached some new layer of the seabed?’

Blackwood let out a meow and joyfully swam into the swarm of jellyfish.

Faye Yardley collected one of the jellyfish. Other than glowing and having a beautiful, peach-blossom-like shape, there was nothing special about it.

The same went for the small fish and shrimp nearby.

They didn’t appeal to her, but they were clearly a huge draw for Blackwood.

So Faye Yardley decided to dive a little deeper, down into the patch of seagrass.

She forcefully yanked one up, and the system finally gave a reaction.

[Deep Seaweed: A highly nutritious and extremely resilient type of seaweed. Perhaps you can try using it for other things.]

Faye Yardley looked at the broadleaf seaweed in her hand. ’Is this for eating,’ she wondered, ’or for making clothes and rope?’

’A multi-purpose plant?’

’I should pull up a lot more, then. I wonder if it can be planted in the waters near Conch Isle. If so, it would be a stable source of "fabric" production.’

So Faye Yardley started pulling and pulling.

She nearly picked the entire vast field of seaweed bald.

If she hadn’t decided to leave some for the glowing jellyfish and the little fish and shrimp that had gathered around, she really would have picked it all clean.

By this point, Blackwood had eaten so much it had puffed up several sizes and could barely swim.

Faye Yardley grabbed Blackwood and quickly swam upward.

After she left the area and entered the darkness, the spots where she had pulled up the seaweed began to grow new stalks at a frenzied pace, only stopping once the field had returned to roughly its original appearance.

Back on the surface, moonlight spilled across the ocean. She let out a whistle, and Bella’s figure quickly appeared before her. Faye leaped onto her back, and they sped toward the raft.

Back on the raft, Faye Yardley took out a long, broadleaf stalk of seaweed and handed it to Willow Yardley. "See if you can make a dish with this."

"Okay. You must be hungry, Sister. Why don’t you eat first?"

"I’m going to take a shower first."

Lucy White leaned in to look at the seaweed and sniffed it. "I never thought seaweed could have such a pleasant, fresh scent."

Faye Yardley rubbed her nose. She actually hadn’t noticed before.

’Does your sense of smell just stop working in the ocean?’

"You’re right, it does. That makes me even more excited to try it," Faye Yardley said, then went straight inside, upstairs to her bedroom, and into the bathroom for a shower.

She emerged, clean and refreshed, having changed into some loungewear.

When she came downstairs, Willow Yardley had already prepared a cold salad with the seaweed.

It had been shredded, blanched, and then drizzled with her homemade dressing. It was a simple dish, but the flavor was excellent.

Faye Yardley couldn’t help but praise it after one bite. "Delicious! Willow, your cooking is amazing. You can whip up something this tasty so casually. Please make another serving; I want to send it to my brother so he can try it."

"It’s because you provided such a great ingredient, Sister. I’ll go make a portion for our brother right now."

’If I was the only one who liked it, it might not mean much. But since everyone loves it, this ingredient must be something special.’

After returning, Blackwood had flopped onto his Pet Sofa to sleep and still hadn’t woken up.

"This is so good! Sister, did you only find one stalk of this seaweed?" Lucy White asked while helping herself to more.

Faye Yardley chuckled. "Of course not. It was such a rare find, I obviously grabbed a ton of it."

Lucy White was overjoyed. "That’s wonderful! I want to eat this tomorrow, and the day after, too."

"Alright, alright. If you like it that much, I’ll have Willow make it for you."

"Thank you, Sister."

Cole Kensington also loved it, but unlike Lucy White, he didn’t voice his desires. He was simply happy to hear there would be more tomorrow and the day after.

RING-A-LING~

They hadn’t even finished their meal when a call came in.

Seeing it was her brother, Faye Yardley answered without a second thought. "Hey, Bro, what’s up? I bet you’re calling to say how delicious that seaweed salad was."

"It is delicious. But it’s actually that guy Tiberius who’s looking for you."

Ethan Yardley said, pointing to Tiberius beside him.

Tiberius wore a sycophantic expression. "Little sister, where did you find this Deep Seaweed? Can you take me there?"

"What’s it to you? Do you like it that much? Want to go grab some for yourself? Well, I’ll tell you now, you’re too late. I already picked that patch nearly clean."

Tiberius asked nervously, "You didn’t pull up every last stalk, did you?"

"It didn’t come to that. You have to leave some seeds to grow back. Wiping things out completely isn’t the Veridian way."

"That’s a relief. Please take me there. I’m begging you, my dear little sister."

UGH.

’Even the most handsome man looks greasy and disgusting when he’s being a sycophant.’ "Alright, alright. I’ll send my brother an invitation tomorrow. You can come with him."

"Huh? We can’t go now?"

"Seriously? Do you know what time it is? It’s dark out, and it’s dangerous. It’s not like the seaweed is going to grow legs and run away."

Tiberius looked aggrieved. "But this kind of Deep Seaweed really *does* run away."

Faye Yardley: ????

’I might not know much, but don’t you dare try to fool me.’
