Chapter 288: Pursuit 3

  • Next Chapter

All of a sudden, Zhang Fengyun and Hao Xiangtong's attention was drawn elsewhere. An intense battle seemed to be taking place in the forest.

"Something doesn't seem right," Zhang Fengyun mused with a slight frown.

She formed a Daiost hand seal and chanted, "O' Profound Origin Dao Lord, please bless me with your protection."

Rays of golden light began emanating from her body as the talismans that she had implanted into her own body took effect.

To ensure that she could use her talismans at any moment and prevent her enemies from taking them, she had implanted them all into her body.

The Indestructibility Talisman near her spine formed a golden halo behind her head, granting her tremendous physical resistance against all weapons.

The Mountain Moving Talisman below her ribs released countless streams of light that spread through her entire body, granting her superhuman strength.

The Qi Sea Talisman above her tibia stimulated her qi and blood, causing plumes of steam to rise from her body while granting her nearly limitless stamina.

"I'll go take a look. Stay here and don't go anywhere," Zhang Fengyun instructed as she pulled out a yellow paper talisman.

The talisman instantly burst into flames before drifting onto Hao Xiangtong's body. Despite the yellow paper talisman being on fire, Hao Xiangtong felt no burning sensation. Instead, it gave off a pleasant warmth.

As the burning talisman descended upon her, her body instantly became completely translucent, rendering her invisible.

"This is a Concealment Talisman. No one will be able to see you until it burns out."

With a single stride, Zhang Fengyun covered a distance of over ten meters. The earth shattered beneath her feet as she launched herself into the distance like a bolt of lightning.

Qiao Zhi stood on the branch of a tree, looking back at the chaotic battlefield behind him.

All the fiends had already scattered in a panic. Only the Chaotic Heavens King and the Yaksha Wraith remained locked in battle against Gao Yi, but they clearly wouldn't be able to hold out much longer.

That ability of his is far too troublesome! Qiao Zhi grumbled to himself. Chu Qiguang is the only one on our side who can deal with him.

Just then, a glimmer of golden light appeared in the distance, accompanied by a series of dull thumps reminiscent of a pounding war drum.

Qiao Zhi immediately leaped to the top of the tree. He was stunned to see a thin Daoist nun rushing toward the battlefield with golden light radiating from her entire body.

Who the meow is that?!

He then spotted the other Chongming Bird flying toward him from another direction.

Is Chu Qiguang coming as well?

Qiao Zhi's mind raced as he assessed the situation, and he quickly came to a decision.

"Yaksha Wraith!" he yelled.

The Yaksha Wraith was locked in battle with Gao Yi, but upon hearing Qiao Zhi's call, it immediately flapped its tattered wings and raced through the air toward Zhang Fengyun.

In the blink of an eye, it barreled through the forest and appeared before her.

Zhang Fengyun was alarmed by the grotesque sight of the demonified Yaksha Wraith. A look of disgust appeared in her eyes as she prepared to strike. However, before she could do so, the Yaksha Wraith suddenly turned tail and fled.

There seemed to be a fierce battle raging up ahead, but as the abbot of the Ba Manor Daoist Temple, Zhang Fengyun couldn't allow a demon to escape right under her nose. Thus, after a brief hesitation, she set off in pursuit of the Yaksha Wraith.

Qiao Zhi had only just breathed a sigh of relief when he heard faint chuckling behind him. A ball of black sludge was taking on Gao Yi's form.

The moment the Yaksha Wraith left the battlefield, Gao Yi bypassed the Chaotic Heavens King and appeared directly behind Qiao Zhi.

As soon as his body took shape, he reached for the back of Qiao Zhi's head.

A cold look flashed through Qiao Zhi's eyes as his orange fur began to ripple, resembling a layer of flames enveloping his entire body.

A burst of gale force erupted, and in the next instant, Qiao Zhi appeared over ten meters away as if he had teleported.

Even though Gao Yi's attack had missed its target, he was more intrigued than bothered.

"What kind of martial art is this?" he asked curiously. "I've never seen anything like it!"

Qiao Zhi harrumphed coldly and offered no response.

He continued fleeing from Gao Yi, while the Chaotic Heavens King followed closely behind them.

After using Raging Tempest, Qiao Zhi's fur rippled like fire, and his speed and dexterity were significantly enhanced. This allowed him to narrowly evade Gao Yi's attacks time and time again.

As the chase wore on, Gao Yi only became more intrigued.

I don't know what kind of martial art this cat fiend is using, but he's beginning to slow down. It seems his stamina is running out. I suppose this was inevitable. There's no way anyone can defeat me using martial arts alone.

Qiao Zhi had made some significant progress in his martial arts over the past few months and was finally able to use Raging Tempest, but not for long.

Eventually, the last of his stamina ran out, and his rippling fur settled as he descended to the ground.

"You sure can run, I'll give you that!" Gao Yi grinned.

Qiao Zhi merely looked up at him with disdain and offered no response.

In the undergrowth nearby, the invisible Hao Xiangtong heard the sound of someone talking. Driven by curiosity, she slowly made her way toward it.

One of the Chongming Birds swooped down from the sky. While it was still over ten meters above the ground, a figure leaped from its back and plummeted toward the earth.

Gao Yi looked up in surprise to see a figure radiating scorching heat descending upon him like a shooting star.

In the blink of an eye, the figure was already upon him. A palm slammed down onto Gao Yi's head, crushing his body from his head through his chest and all the way down to his pelvis.

Gao Yi's entire body instantly disintegrated into black sludge that erupted in all directions, only to reform over ten meters away.

"Aren't you that new hundred-man commander? Your name is Chu Qiguang, right?"

Just a moment ago, Qiao Zhi had been looking up at Gao Yi with his head held tall and proud. All of a sudden, however, he seemed to become incredibly feeble. He limped toward Chu Qiguang, meowing pitifully as he pointed a paw directly at Gao Yi.

"Did you beat my cat?" Chu Qiguang asked coldly.
