Number Nine’s expression finally showed a ripple of emotion, and her AT Field flickered violently.

She slowly descended from the air, dropping to one knee before Alex and lowering her head. Her pale blue hair fell forward, completely obscuring her expression.

"Please do not harm Shinji Ikari. He is the last human on this entire planet. If he dies, this world will return to chaos, and everything will be completely over!"

Alex withdrew the Absolute Zero halo beneath his feet, and the spreading frost instantly halted.

He looked at Number Nine kneeling before him, his tone flat. "First question. Why did these Reincarnators turn into your likeness?"

"New Eden? What is that?"

"We were born from the Tree of Life. Adam and I respectively seized the Fruit of Life and the Fruit of Knowledge. Only when the powers of these two fruits are combined can an existence transcending the Angels be created," Number Nine explained.

"Gendo Ikari absorbed Adam’s embryo, so he himself is the Fruit of Life. Subsequently, he obtained the genes of all humanity and half of my body. Right now, he is replanting the Tree of Life on the moon. The day the divine tree bears fruit is the day he becomes a God!"
