Chapter 177: Chapter 174: Difficult Recruitment at the Clothing Workshop
In the office of the Clothing Workshop, Gu Yuxi hung up the phone, feeling somewhat frustrated.
"These people won’t lift a finger without a guaranteed reward. I told them the base salary is low and the bonuses are high, but they just don’t believe me."
After muttering a few complaints, Gu Yuxi went back to making calls. The Lin Xian Village Clothing Workshop was in desperate need of high-end tailors.
"Hello, is this Teacher Liu? This is Gu Yuxi from the Lin Xian Village Clothing Workshop. I sent you a message a few days ago.
I was wondering, would you be willing to come work for our Lin Xian Village Clothing Workshop? The bonuses here are very high."
"President Gu, I have no intention of working for someone else right now. If there’s an opportunity in the future, perhaps we can collaborate."
"Teacher Liu, the compensation here is really good. Would you like to come over and see for yourself?"
"That won’t be necessary. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up. I’m busy with work."
"Alright then... Goodbye, Teacher Liu."
Liu Lianying hung up and scoffed, "High bonuses? Please. Those are just empty promises. Does she really think I’m some naive kid she can trick?"
Her private tailor shop might not have been highly profitable, but the income wasn’t bad, and she enjoyed the comfortable lifestyle.
Rejected again, Gu Yuxi felt a bit discouraged. She was about to slam her fist on the desk, but then she lowered her raised hand. She was afraid of the pain.
Not one of the people she’d invited had agreed. They just didn’t believe that Lin Xian Village offered such high bonuses.
"Manager Gu, Manager Gu! Another tourist is here asking if they can get an ancient-style costume custom-made."
Gu Yuxi headed outside, watching the employee run up to her. They got tourists like this every day.
"Didn’t I already say that we can’t do custom orders for ancient-style clothing right now?"
"Oh, this time it’s different. The customer said she can guide us in making it."
"She’ll guide us? She knows how to make ancient-style clothing?!"
"She says she does."
"Let’s go take a look."
The two of them arrived at the front sales area, where they saw three young women browsing the clothes.
"Wuwu, these clothes feel so comfortable! I can’t see anything special about the material, though."
Wuwu, her hair tied in a bun and dressed in a light pink Hanfu, was also wondering why the clothes here felt more comfortable than her own, even though they seemed to be made of the same fabric.
"Maybe the material is a bit different from ours. It’s a shame the styles here are so plain, and the craftsmanship isn’t very good either."
Based on the styles and sewing techniques, the clothes were obviously made by novices.
"Ladies, our Manager Gu is here. You can discuss any requests you have with her."
Gu Yuxi looked at the clothes the three were wearing. She had to admit, they were much more beautiful than the ones her workshop produced.
They were wearing a beautiful Hanfu ensemble: a short, collared blouse over a long skirt, similar in style to a gauze dress. It was very pretty.
"Ladies, right this way. Let’s go inside to sit and chat."
Entering the lounge next door, Gu Yuxi asked, "I hear you’d like to custom-order some ancient-style clothing, and that you can also guide us in making it."
"Yes, Manager Gu. We find that clothes made from your fabric are very comfortable.
It’s just that you don’t have the styles we like, so we were hoping you could make clothes for us based on the styles we provide."
"You know how to make ancient-style clothing?"
"Of course! Our Wuwu is amazing at making ancient-style clothing. Her family used to own a tailor shop that specialized in custom-made clothes."
Wuwu said modestly, "I’m not that amazing, really. I just learned some skills from my grandparents when I was little."
Gu Yuxi was pleasantly surprised. This must be a family craft. If they made the clothes they were wearing themselves, then they were indeed very skilled.
"Would you be able to give us a demonstration?"
"Sure. And if I do, will you agree to make the clothes for us to our specifications?"
"Of course. If the customer demonstrates sufficient skill, we can certainly make clothes to their specifications."
Gu Yuxi had them change into work uniforms and led them into the production area.
"Wow! You make everything by hand? You don’t use any machines?"
"Mhm. The most advanced pieces of equipment we have are sewing machines; everything else is done by hand."
"Making clothes like this must be very slow."
"That’s why our clothes are so comfortable, but also more expensive. For now, due to the skill level of our workers, we can only produce simple garments. We plan to move into high-end custom tailoring in the future."
"Wuwu, look over there. That’s the same fabric we bought."
Wuwu looked at the bolts of finished fabric; even the brand name was the same as the one they had purchased. That was strange.
’The craftsmanship here isn’t as good as mine, yet the clothes they make are somehow more comfortable than my own.’
Gu Yuxi explained, "At the moment, we here in Lin Xian Village can’t produce our own fabric, so we have it all custom-ordered from outside.
Once we’re able to produce our own fabric here in Lin Xian Village, we’ll stop ordering it from external suppliers."
Wuwu’s companion asked curiously, "You’re planning to produce the fabric for your clothes yourselves, too?"
"That’s right. See those buildings over there? That’s where we’ll be making the fabric.
We just haven’t been able to hire enough workers for Lin Xian Village yet, so that project hasn’t begun."
"Manager Gu, can I ask, your clothes are very comfortable to wear. Is there some kind of special technique involved?
Of course, if it’s a trade secret, you can just forget I asked."
Wei Wuwu was just curious. Why would the same fabric produce such a different result?
"It’s not really a secret. The truth is, I don’t know either. I suppose that’s just what makes the Lin Xian Village Clothing Workshop special."
The three of them were stunned by Gu Yuxi’s answer. They had seen plenty of talk online about the buildings in Lin Xian Village being special, but they hadn’t really believed it. Yet here was the manager, telling them outright that the village’s buildings did, in fact, possess special properties.
