Rural Farming: My Buildings Can Be Upgraded
Chapter 149 - 147: An Oddball of Legend
Chapter 149: Chapter 147: An Oddball of Legend
Inside the performance troupe’s break room, Ding Haolian watched Qin Youyou’s frustrated expression, and his own mood wasn’t great.
"Youyou, why don’t you tell the boss? I’m sure he can help you sort this out."
As Qin Youyou straightened her performance costume, she said, "How is the boss supposed to help me? The guy hasn’t actually *done* anything, he just pesters me every day."
Qin Youyou never thought she’d run into one of those obsessive clingers you read about online—a legendary weirdo.
’Just because he tipped me in a livestream once, he thinks I should be his girlfriend. He’s a total psycho.’
And the worst part was, the Class Leader was managing the account back then, so she never even saw a dime of that money.
"You can’t let this drag on. That guy seems extreme. If he actually does something, you’ll regret it when it’s too late."
Ding Haolian knew all too well that people that extreme were prone to doing something stupid.
If Youyou actually got hurt, it wouldn’t just be her who regretted it—the entire performance troupe would be implicated.
When Zhao Shiyun came over and saw the situation, her eyes landed warily on Ding Haolian.
She asked Qin Youyou, "What’s going on?"
Ding Haolian felt wronged. ’I’m just trying to look out for Youyou, how did I end up looking like the bad guy to Manager Zhao?’
"My junior sister has been harassed by someone for the last few days. The guy is a bit extreme, and I’m worried she’s going to get hurt."
Zhao Shiyun’s anger flared instantly. ’Someone dares to bully an employee of Lin Xian Village!’
"Tell me who it is! The nerve of them, daring to cause trouble in Lin Xian Village!"
Qin Youyou explained, "It’s my own private matter, so I didn’t want to trouble the company."
"You’re a company employee. You might not want to trouble the company, but if something really happens to you, do you think the company won’t be held responsible?
Alright, tell me what’s going on with this guy. I’ll handle it for you.
Also, call your family and tell them you won’t be coming home for a few days. Just stay here in Lin Xian Village until this is all over."
After Lin Feng heard the news from Zhao Shiyun, he arranged for a house for Qin Youyou.
Then, he started making calls to have someone investigate the man’s background.
Soon, the housing shortage in Lin Xian Village would be significantly relieved. The second batch of residences was about to be completed, this time with eighty units.
Moreover, forty of these new Houses were three stories tall, with each unit containing nine rooms.
For the third batch of Houses, Lin Feng didn’t continue building up the mountain, but instead planned for them over by the Barracks.
...
Gou Ji was not a good-looking man. He was sharp-beaked and monkey-cheeked, with a scrawny build. Ever since he was a child, he’d had a one-track mind and wasn’t particularly bright.
After seeing Qin Youyou’s livestream, he became infatuated, fantasizing about her becoming his girlfriend.
He had tipped all the money he earned from his job in her livestream room. It was only later, after Kong Lin’s scandal broke and he saw the public announcement, that he realized the Kong Family had pocketed all the tips.
Upon learning this, he felt like a complete dumbass and had wanted to rush to Wuyuan County right then and there to teach the father and son a lesson.
But then he saw on the news that the pair had been put in a detention center, which was the only reason he didn’t go immediately.
A few days ago, he had smashed some production equipment at work and was fired. After that, he came to Wuyuan County.
For the past while, he had come to wait outside Lin Xian Village every day, hoping Qin Youyou would agree to be his girlfriend.
’I’m running out of money. I have to find a way to get some cash.’
While Gou Ji was trying to figure out how to get money, the Kong father and son were released from the detention center. When they returned home, they found the house completely empty.
"Dad, did we get robbed? By the way, where on earth did Mom go? And why isn’t my wife home either?"
Only after getting out did Kong Wei learn that his wife had run off, taking a large sum of his money with her.
He planned to find some guys in a few days to go raise hell at his father-in-law’s house and make them cough up the money.
"You’re still thinking about that shrew of a mother of yours? She ran off with that pretty boy a long time ago and took all the family’s money."
That was all his hard-earned money. He didn’t care that the shrew had run off, but the fact that she’d taken the money felt like a knife twisting in his heart.
Luckily, he still had a personal stash of cash hidden away, otherwise he wouldn’t even be able to afford a meal.
Kong Lin couldn’t figure it out. All he did was perform in Lin Xian Village as requested, and now his family was shattered.
’I hear the boss there is loaded now. I have to extort a huge sum of money from him.’
’And those ungrateful apprentices... I need to settle the score with them, too. Make them pay all the tuition fees from over the years.’
"Let’s go. We’ll get some things ready and head to that Lin Xian Village. We can’t let this go."
The father and son went to a print shop, had a banner made, and then hurried toward Lin Xian Village.
Once they were outside Lin Xian Village, the two of them unfurled their banner and started a livestream.
Kong Lin didn’t get it, but Kong Wei understood perfectly. In this day and age, infamy was still a kind of fame. As long as you had the engagement, you could make money.
"Unscrupulous Lin Xian Village Boss Poaches Entire Kong Family Colorful Silk Dance Troupe.
Disloyal Apprentices Betray 20+ Years of Tutelage, Jump Ship Without a Word."
Outside Lin Xian Village, some influencers who hadn’t been able to get inside saw what was happening and instantly swarmed over, quickly attracting a large crowd.
"Hey, isn’t that the ’Kong Family Four’ from the crime report?"
"The father and son solicited prostitutes, the mother kept a pretty boy, and the daughter-in-law was a surrogate for someone else. What a family."
"So it’s them! They’re already out of the detention center? They were only locked up for that long?"
"..."
If the two hadn’t unfurled their banner, the crowd might not have recognized them. But with the banner out, they were identified in an instant.
The main reason was that the short videos about them had gone viral at the time. Their whole family was full of oddballs, and the story had hit number one on the trending charts.
Since it hadn’t been that long, people still remembered. Seeing their banner left everyone dumbfounded.
"I can’t believe people like them still have the nerve to show up here with a banner."
"Didn’t you see they’re livestreaming? Who cares about saving face? All that matters is money."
Gou Ji, who was in the crowd, hadn’t been able to find the Kong father and son. He never expected they’d deliver themselves right to him.
The thought that the more than 10,000 yuan he had tipped had all been pocketed by this pair made his anger flare.
However, with so many people around, he didn’t dare to make a move.
He just stood there in the crowd, staring at the father and son, wondering how he could teach them a lesson and get his money back.
Soon, Lin Feng got word of the situation and notified the police officers stationed in the village.
"What are you two doing here? Take down that banner, and don’t cause any trouble."
Kong Wei said, "We’re just defending our rights. We aren’t spreading rumors. As long as the boss of Lin Xian Village compensates our family for our losses, we’ll leave."
"That’s right! That guy named Lin has to compensate me for the dissolution of my performance troupe!"
"If you have a problem, take it to court. What you’re doing here is disturbing the peace. It’s illegal.
Pack up your things and leave now, or I’ll have to arrest you."
Remembering life in the detention center, Kong Wei said, "Dad, let’s leave for now. Worst case, we can just livestream from home later."
Their main purpose for coming today was to generate buzz and, while they were at it, get under Lin Feng’s skin.
As the two left, they didn’t notice they had a tail. Gou Ji followed them onto the bus.
He followed them directly, figured out where they lived, and then returned to Lin Xian Village to wait for Qin Youyou to appear.
But when the members of the Colorful Silk Dance troupe came out, Qin Youyou was not among them.
"What do you want?"
Ding Haolian stepped in front of Gou Ji to block him. The guy just looked off, shamelessly pestering Youyou.
"Why didn’t Youyou come out today?"
"Whether my junior sister comes out or not is none of your business! Stop harassing her!"
Gou Ji glared at Ding Haolian, his eyes fierce, looking like he wanted to throw a punch.
"What, you want to fight me? A scrawny monkey like you? I could take you with one hand tied behind my back!"
Gou Ji looked at Ding Haolian’s burly frame and took a step back. He knew he couldn’t win a fight against this guy.
"What a useless piece of trash. A toad lusting after a swan’s flesh."
"That guy’s probably got a screw loose. Youyou’s living inside Lin Xian Village now, so we don’t have to worry about him harassing her."
"Yeah, her performances have been off these past few days because he’s been pestering her."
Hearing that Qin Youyou had moved into Lin Xian Village just to avoid him, Gou Ji’s mood soured even further.
As the sky darkened, Gou Ji ate a bowl of beef noodle soup to fill his stomach. On his way out, he casually snatched an iron rod from beside the shop’s entrance.
He was very practiced at this sort of thing. He knew that no one would report it, and even if they did, it would be useless. He started walking toward the Kong Family’s home.
