Chapter 137: Chapter 135: Water

In a laboratory in Jiangcheng City, several staff members were testing vegetables and meat. One researcher looked at the water that had been sent over.

"Why are we even testing water this time?"

"Who knows what the boss is thinking. We just do as we’re told."

"Do you think these vegetables and meat have something special in them, like those Jade Grapes did?"

"Probably not. The Jade Grapes were likely a one-off mutation."

As they talked, they finished testing one of the vegetables. The data looked great, but there was nothing particularly special about it.

"Wow, the pesticide residue is zero. They really didn’t use any chemicals. Plus, the nutritional value is 35% higher than ordinary vegetables.

Do you think we’ll ever get a chance to buy these?"

"Dream on! These are clearly from Lin Xian Village. That place is really something else."

These people were thorough, too. They didn’t even skip the scallions, ginger, and garlic. They’d gotten their hands on every type of mature vegetable from Lin Xian Village.

The test results for the produce and meat came back quickly. The quality was better than average, but that was it. Then, the group started testing the bottle of water.

When they saw the test data for the water, they were all dumbfounded.

"Is this really just water?"

"No kidding. This definitely isn’t ordinary water. The trace element levels are very high, and they’re all beneficial to the body. It also looks like there’s some kind of special substance in it."

They began to test it in earnest. But after analyzing it for a long time, they found their equipment couldn’t identify the substance at all.

That’s when they remembered the tests on the Jade Grapes. There had been an unidentifiable substance in them, too.

They exchanged a look. It seemed they had stumbled upon something incredible.

Soon, the report reached Zhang Yong’s hands. He listened to the researcher’s account while staring at the bottle of water.

"So, you’re saying the produce and meat are just highly nutritious and pollution-free, with nothing else special about them?

But the water is a different story. You found a special substance in it."

"That’s right. According to our results, this water contains a previously undiscovered substance.

It’s present in very small amounts, though—nothing compared to what was in the Jade Grapes."

"What are its effects?"

"We’re not sure yet. We’ll need to conduct further experiments."

This put Zhang Yong in a difficult position. He could get his hands on small amounts of the water, but acquiring it in large quantities would be impossible.

"Start the experiments for now. I’ll send more water over later."

Now that he knew Lin Xian Village’s water was special, Zhang Yong returned to Wuyuan County and started scheming for ways to get more.

The method was actually quite simple. Tourists in Lin Xian Village were free to drink the water, so all he had to do was send people in to bottle it and bring it out.

However, his actions soon attracted the attention of certain observant individuals.

Qin Zhifeng asked, confused, "What’s Zhang Yong up to? Why is he taking water from Lin Xian Village?"

He knew Zhang Yong had taken produce and meat from Lin Xian Village to be tested. Plenty of people in Wuyuan County had done the same, and everyone knew the results.

There was nothing particularly special about them—just that they were more nutritious than average and completely pollution-free.

Of course, they wanted ingredients like that, too. These days, it was incredibly hard to find food you could feel safe eating.

That’s why many people were already pulling strings to see if they could order ingredients from Lin Xian Village.

"Have someone look into why Zhang Yong is taking water from Lin Xian Village. And while you’re at it, get someone to test that water too."

"Yes, boss."

Word spread quickly through the social circles of Wuyuan County. Someone even asked Zhang Yong about it directly, and he didn’t try to hide it.

’Mainly, the water from Lin Xian Village is different from the Jade Grapes. It’s not like it’s a scarce resource, so it doesn’t matter if a lot of people find out.’

Back in Lin Xian Village, Hu Xia hung up the phone and went straight to find Lin Feng.

"Boss, a rumor is spreading over in Wuyuan County that there’s something up with our water."

Lin Feng was a little surprised. ’Who has that much time on their hands, testing the village’s water?’

"Don’t worry about them. The water quality in Lin Xian Village really is good. Drinking more of it is beneficial for your health."

Hu Xia shot Lin Feng a surprised glance. ’This guy seems to have a lot of secrets.’

"So what should we do about the water? If word gets out, a lot of people are going to want it."

"We’ll do the same as always. The flow rate is what it is. Besides, would they really dare to come and steal it?"

’If anyone really tries to make a move on the water, I’ll just shut off the supply and see what they do then.’

"Xiaxia, you’re here! Lin Feng, I heard there’s something wrong with the village water," Zhao Shiyun said, running over.

Hu Xia said, "The water’s fine. The quality here in Lin Xian Village is just really good, so it’s beneficial for your health."

"Oh! In that case, can I take some water home for my family to drink every day?"

"Of course. Hu Xia, tell everyone later that if they want to take some water, they can fill up in the evening to bring home."

The news spread quickly through the employee group chat. Everyone now knew that drinking the water from Lin Xian Village was good for their health.

This news then made its way to Wuyuan County. The people still waiting on their own water quality test results were surprised that Lin Feng had just announced it openly.

Upon hearing the news, Wu Xin immediately called Lin Feng, wanting to buy some water on a daily basis.

Lin Feng flatly refused anyone who wanted to buy the water, stating he didn’t have a license to sell potable water.

Even the county leaders called to inquire about the matter. It was only after hearing Lin Feng’s explanation that they abandoned their own plans for it.

However, what Lin Feng hadn’t expected was that the rumors would grow more and more outrageous, culminating in a call from his mother.

"Someone told me the water at your place can cure all illnesses."

"Mom, this water isn’t a Miracle Elixir. How could it possibly cure all illnesses? The quality is just good, so drinking it regularly is good for you, that’s all."

"Oh, is that it? I knew they were exaggerating! When your dad comes back, I’ll have him bring home a few buckets of water every day."

"Okay, got it."

He had just ended the video call with his mother when a call from Ma Dehua came in.

"Lin Feng, the rumor going around is that the water in Lin Xian Village is a cure-all. Is that true?"

"Uncle Ma, who’s spreading these rumors? Can you please make an announcement over the broadcast system? Just say the water in Lin Xian Village is simply better quality, that’s all."

"These people... news gets passed around and around until it becomes a wild rumor."

Soon, the tourists heard about it too. However, the rumor was so outrageous that most of them didn’t really believe it.

Still, some people used their empty water bottles to collect some of the water from Lin Xian Village to drink.

Perhaps because the rumor was too absurd for anyone to really believe, the matter of the water didn’t attract too much attention.

However, the matter didn’t end there. The main reason was that Zhang Yong had the lab in Jiangcheng City continuously running experiments on the water.

It was just that getting results from these experiments would take a considerable amount of time.

Because word was out that drinking the water from Lin Xian Village had health benefits, many people in Wuyuan County began trying to figure out how to get some for themselves.

Lin Feng paid them no mind. He only needed to make sure the village itself didn’t run out of water.

’Besides, ever since connecting to the Wells on the mountain, Lin Xian Village has had a virtually inexhaustible supply of water.’

"Mo Yu, what happened to you?"

Lin Feng looked at Mo Yu as he ran back. The dog’s fur was torn, and there were traces of blood. He was clearly injured.

"WOOF WOOF WOOF! WOOF WOOF WOOF..."

"What? You were attacked by a bird?"

’That’s unbelievable. Given Mo Yu’s current strength, how could a bird dare to attack him?’

A moment later, Xiaohong also came running back. She scurried over to Mo Yu, looked at his injury, and started chittering at Lin Feng.

Lin Feng placed Xiaohong on his shoulder and examined Mo Yu’s wound. It was just a small scrape. He went inside, grabbed some iodine, and sprayed it on the injury.

He learned from Mo Yu that the dog had been injured while protecting Xiaohong from the bird.

’He was curious. What kind of bird could be that formidable?’
