Chapter 1117: Chapter 1105: Old Xu Rescue Plan Begins (Part 3)
In the living room on the fifth floor, Old Xu and Lei Tong sat facing each other.
A chess game was in full swing in front of them.
"Knight jump!"
"Castle move!"
"Pawn advance!"
...
This chess set was unearthed by Lei Tong two days ago during a bored rummaging.
Apparently, the owner hadn’t used it much since buying it.
In fact, Lei Tong, this burly fellow, rarely had the patience for such games.
But being cooped up at home had become intolerable recently, so upon finding the chessboard, he pulled Xu Renjie in for a game.
Logically, Old Xu wasn’t much in the mood for a match, concerned about the uncertain fates of his comrades outside and the current complex crisis making him restless.
He accepted Lei Tong’s proposal as a way to relax and divert his attention, though reluctantly.
Just then, Xu Renjie felt his pocket tremble, and his startled demeanor puzzled Wei Dazhuang, prompting him to ask: "Captain, what’s wrong?"
Without a word, Xu Renjie put down the chess piece, reached into his pocket, and pulled out the nearly forgotten phone to take a closer look: "It’s Hu, a message from Hu and the others."
Although he didn’t open the message, the fact that his phone could show a message prompt at this moment said it all.
Upon hearing this, Lei Tong’s expression swiftly changed, finally asking uncertainly: "Hu!? Captain, you said Hu and them?"
Nodding, Xu Renjie said no more but quickly opened the message, reading Hu Xiaodong’s message from top to bottom.
After finishing, he looked up at the sky as if pondering something.
"What, what’s wrong, Captain, what does the message say?" Lei Tong asked anxiously.
"Hu asks how long our supplies can last." Muttered distractedly.
After hearing this, Lei Tong calculated: "If we use them sparingly, we can hold out for another two weeks without issue."
Old Xu obviously knew this; he had been meticulously managing resources these days.
But based on his understanding of Hu Xiaodong, this guy wouldn’t send a message asking about this for no reason.
After all, the issue of supply consumption was already addressed in their first message exchange.
Could something have happened to the team outside!?
With this thought, Old Xu’s brow furrowed.
He picked up the phone, fiddled with it, and then pressed the send button.
"Buzz buzz!"
"Here it comes!" Wei Dazhuang’s urgings sounded in his ear.
Hu Xiaodong opened it and smiled slightly.
"What did Old Xu say?" Wei Dazhuang urged again.
Hu Xiaodong smiled: "I asked Old Xu about their supply situation, but he didn’t answer and instead asked about our current status."
"Then just tell him directly!" Wei Dazhuang replied without much thought.
"Heh, heh, Old Xu’s query probably suggests he thinks something happened to us." Tang Xiaoquan’s words agreed with Hu Xiaodong’s sentiments.
In his view, Xu Renjie’s avoidance of his question was inherently suspicious.
"Alright! Let’s do as Dazhuang said and reply directly."
Hu Xiaodong quickly edited the message and sent it over.
About ten seconds later, Old Xu received it as expected.
"How about it, Captain, did they say anything? Did they encounter any trouble?"
"No! Everyone is safe, and they’re right near us."
"Oh, just as long as everyone is safe!" Lei Tong sighed deeply, then followed up: "So by this, it means they’re preparing to..."
"Yes," Old Xu nodded before Lei Tong could finish.
Immediately, he bent over and stared at the phone screen again.
The message from Hu Xiaodong straightforwardly explained their current situation and promptly requested Xu Renjie to truthfully inform them about their supply status to arrange their next move.
Of course, to avoid making Old Xu overthink.
Hu Xiaodong specifically stressed the reason for his inquiry.
It turns out concerns about snow slowing the zombies’ progress prompted this request, and given that...
When Hu Xiaodong received Old Xu’s reply again, the latter finally provided the answer he wanted to know.
"Old Xu and their supply can still support two weeks."
"Reliable?" Hua Biao still expressed doubt.
"It should be reliable; I clearly told Old Xu we need to know the exact timing of his supply for the rescue plan. I believe Old Xu understands the importance and wouldn’t deceive us with false numbers."
"Buzz buzz!" Hu Xiaodong’s voice had barely faded when the phone buzzed again.
"Another message, quickly check it!"
No need for Hua Biao’s urging, Hu Xiaodong had already opened the message.
"What does it say?"
"It asks for our current location; hehe, seems Old Xu is still suspicious of what I said." Hu Xiaodong rubbed his chin self-deprecatingly and began to reply:
"We’re currently less than 500 meters north of you."
"Where do you plan to set up the sound source?"
"Directly ahead, two blocks away, see the eight-story office building?"
"Kanghui Mansion?"
"Exactly! That’s the place."
"When do you plan to start?"
"This is still uncertain, but we’ll return to set up as soon as tomorrow. As for the final action, it depends on your supplies so we can conclude finally, so Old Xu must inform us of the details!"
Using Bluetooth, Hu Xiaodong and Hua Biao used their phones for communication back and forth.
Ultimately, Hu Xiaodong confirmed Old Xu’s situation, noting that their supplies could last another two weeks.
"Two weeks remaining, then the problem is manageable, we’ll proceed with the sound source as planned tomorrow. After that, watch the snow conditions; as long as it doesn’t affect the zombies’ activity, we’ll act immediately."
"Hmm, I agree; Hu, reply to Old Xu accordingly and tell him to prepare for immediate evacuation."
Nodding, Hu Xiaodong combined Hua Biao’s and Tang Xiaoquan’s opinions and sent a detailed message to Xu Renjie.
It covered not only actions related matters but also highlighted evacuation precautions.
With this set, both the convoy and Old Xu breathed a sigh of relief.
Especially Xu Renjie, the mountain of anxiety weighing on his mind for days was finally lifted.
The safety message from comrades outside indeed reassured him enormously.
"Checkmate! General! You lost!" Feeling better, Old Xu picked up the abandoned piece and with one move put Lei Tong’s general in a desperate position.
"What the heck! Captain, you..." Lei Tong stared dumbfounded at the defeated piece, but the promise of getting out of the predicament soon and the news from comrades lightened his mood tremendously.
"Alright, Huazi, Xiao Wu, you two have traveled hard these days; rest well today, the night watch will not bother you. When it’s time to eat, I’ll call you."
