Chapter 877: Chapter 877: Previous Host
Jiang Heping sighed with relief and was about to leave when he heard Yang Cheng ask, "Patriarch Jiang, may I ask what illness Jiang Yu’s mother passed away from?"
He didn’t understand why Yang Cheng suddenly brought up Jiang Yu’s mother. He froze for a moment, then with a sad expression, said, "Yu’s mother was born weak and fragile, raised in delicacy since young. It wasn’t much of a problem, but after getting pregnant with Yu, her health deteriorated."
"I didn’t initially agree to her having a child, but she insisted. After giving birth to Yu, her condition sharply declined. Even though I sought out renowned doctors and used expensive medicinal herbs daily, she held on for only a few years before passing away."
"To be honest, Dr. Yang, I used to resent Yu somewhat. I blamed her for taking away my wife. But on her deathbed, Lan Xin insisted that I cherish our daughter, not let her suffer, saying she felt guilty toward her."
At this point, Jiang Heping was already in tears.
Yang Cheng also felt uneasy. He suspected that Jiang Yu’s mother, Cheng Lanxin, had long known about the inheritance of the Rabbit Source Qi, which is why she felt guilty towards Jiang Yu.
"Patriarch Jiang, actually, Yu’s illness is inherited from your wife. I guess she knew she couldn’t always be with you, so she risked having a child, hoping Yu could stay with you."
"I know, which is why I can’t lose Yu. I’m entrusting everything to you."
After finishing, Jiang Heping couldn’t control his emotions and quickly turned to leave.
Watching his back, Yang Cheng shook his head helplessly and returned to the room.
"Brother Cen, what did you guys talk about?"
Jiang Yu asked curiously, with a flush still on her cheeks.
"I told him the treatment is postponed and not to worry."
Yang Cheng replied, pulling Jiang Yu to sit on the bed, and said in a deep voice, "Yu, there’s something I need to tell you. Your mother’s illness is actually the same as yours."
Jiang Yu’s face turned pale in an instant. "What? Are you saying my mom also because of this illness..."
Yang Cheng didn’t hide it from her, "Your mother was the former host of the Rabbit Source Qi. After giving birth to you, the Source Energy in her body transferred to you, and at the same time, the Source Energy absorbed her essence, accelerating her death."
"So... if it weren’t for me, maybe my mom wouldn’t have died so soon?"
Her voice trembled, and her eyes quickly reddened.
Yang Cheng reached out and hugged her, gently patting her back, "It’s not your fault. Your mother chose this willingly. She loved you, so she was willing to sacrifice herself just to bring you into this world."
Hearing this, Jiang Yu finally couldn’t hold back and cried into Yang Cheng’s arms.
Her sobbing was so intense that her body trembled, and her tears soaked Yang Cheng’s collar.
Yang Cheng didn’t try to comfort her, just held her quietly, letting her vent her emotions.
After a while, Jiang Yu’s crying gradually subsided. She lifted her head, her eyes red, her nose red as well, looking pitiful.
Yang Cheng felt a pang of sorrow, lowered his head, and kissed her forehead.
Jiang Yu closed her eyes, feeling the warm touch on her forehead, and a wave of unprecedented calm washed over her heart.
After breakfast, the two went downstairs, and Yang Cheng began leafing through the "Tome of the Ghost Doctor" in his mind. The memory recall must be done on a yin day at a yin hour, the time when the Yin Qi is most abundant, to minimize the resistance of the Rabbit Source Qi.
Yang Cheng checked the almanac and found that the day after tomorrow would be a yin day. Before that, he also needed to enter the Illusion Realm to ensure nothing went wrong.
"The day after tomorrow, it can begin. I need to first enter the Illusion Realm to sever the connection with her Origin, and then Dual Cultivate with you to successfully extract the Rabbit Source Qi."
Yang Cheng closed the almanac and said to Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu nodded, her beautiful eyes flashing with both nervousness and anticipation.
Having spent the past few days together, her dependence on Yang Cheng grew deeper, to the point where she couldn’t bear to be apart.
Jiang Heping noticed this, feeling both gratified and conflicted inside, knowing his daughter had developed true feelings for this young man.
Though Yang Cheng was gentle and considerate to his daughter, he already had other women in his life. He couldn’t let his daughter be a mere lover.
Jiang Heping had his private wishes, hoping his daughter could find a devoted man. Yet, he knew that with someone as remarkable and capable as Yang Cheng, it was unlikely he’d be held by just one woman.
"Oh well, let the children have their blessings."
Jiang Heping sighed, deciding not to dwell on the matter further.
After breakfast, Yang Cheng took Jiang Yu back to the room.
They lay on the bed, and he took a deep breath, reaching out to gently place his hand on Jiang Yu’s chest, slowly injecting a wisp of True Qi into her body.
The infusion of True Qi stirred the Rabbit Source Qi inside Jiang Yu, and a dark red light emanated from her body, enveloping them both.
The next moment, Yang Cheng felt a sudden blackout before his consciousness was pulled by an invisible force into that familiar space.
Yang Cheng once again stood in an endless field of flowers, the sky blue as wash, with white clouds drifting by, everything the same as when he last came.
A woman stood in the distance with her back to him, wearing a red dress, the hem swaying gently in the wind, her long hair cascading like a waterfall, with a pale gold hairband tied in it.
"We meet again."
Yang Cheng spoke, his tone much calmer than last time.
The woman’s shoulder moved slightly as if hesitating whether to turn back.
"I know who you are, you’re Jiang Yu’s mother, Cheng Lanxin."
Yang Cheng continued, his voice echoing through the expansive flower field.
"Who are you to Yu?"
Her voice remained soft, but with a hint of vigilance.
"I am the doctor here to treat her. The Rabbit Source Qi in her body has already begun to affect her life. If it’s not extracted soon, she won’t survive another year."
Yang Cheng didn’t beat around the bush, stating the facts directly.
The woman’s body visibly tensed for a moment, then she slowly turned to face him. This time, she didn’t just show a side profile, but fully faced him.
Yang Cheng finally saw her full appearance.
She had a face so exquisite it bordered on perfect, her features deep and defined, eyebrows like distant mountains dipped in ink, a high nose bridge, full and rosy lips, and skin smooth and translucent like fine white jade.
Her eyes were a gentle light brown, filled with a touch of sorrow and fatigue, yet it couldn’t hide the innate elegance and composure in her bones.
This was Jiang Yu’s mother, a woman so beautiful, it was hard to look away.
"You say you’re a doctor. What method do you have to save Yu?"
She asked, her tone carrying a touch of scrutiny.
If there were truly a way, she wouldn’t have died. It’s because she couldn’t let go of her daughter that she left a remnant soul within this Rabbit Source Qi.
"Extract the Rabbit Source Qi from her body."
Yang Cheng stepped forward a few paces, wanting to be nearer to her.
Cheng Lanxin’s brows furrowed slightly, "It’s impossible. That power has been in my body for many years. I was aware of its presence from a young age. It made my body weak but also granted me abilities beyond normal people. Yet, despite trying various ways, I couldn’t get rid of it."
