Chapter 861: Waiting for the Hare at the Tree
Yang Cheng's gaze passed over those ghost corpses and landed on the black figure behind them, it was Yin Wujiang.
He wore a black robe, a black eyepatch over his left eye, and his right eye flickered with a ghostly green light. His entire being was shrouded in a layer of faint black mist, looking like a demon crawling out of hell.
"He's here."
Yang Cheng immediately got up and put on his clothes, his eyes fixed tightly on that figure.
Feng Jiuge hurriedly put on her clothes as well, shrank into his embrace, and looked outside through the crack in the window, gasping sharply.
In the moonlight, Yin Wujiang walked slowly in the graveyard, with three ghost corpses following around him like faithful servants, swaying as they went.
Every time he passed a grave, he would stop, raise his hand for a wave, and a black mist would surge from his palm, drilling into the earth.
A moment later, the mist would return with a wisp of gray-white breath, absorbed into his body, making his complexion slightly rosier and his aura a bit stronger.
"He's absorbing Yin Qi from the graveyard."
Feng Jiuge whispered, "These graves hold the recently buried, the Yin Qi hasn't completely dissipated yet, for him, it's the best supplement."
Yang Cheng nodded, his gaze fell on the three ghost corpses, his brows slightly furrowed. He noticed a particularly small figure following behind the ghost corpses.
His heart sank, suddenly recalling that grieving young couple whose child had died last month, not even a year old, and the body was stolen too.
"This beast, Yin Wujiang, doesn't even spare children."
Feng Jiuge also noticed the small ghost corpse, a trace of anger flashed in her beautiful eyes.
"The resentment in a child's body is the heaviest, the ghost corpses refined from them are the fiercest."
Yang Cheng said in a deep voice, coldness in his eyes intensifying.
Feng Jiuge bit her lip, "Should we go out now?"
"No rush, let's see what he does first. Once he lets his guard down, we'll make our move."
Yang Cheng pressed her hand softly.
The two continued to observe. Yin Wujiang went around the graveyard, absorbed the Yin Qi from over a dozen graves, his complexion significantly improved, but the wound on his left eye still oozed blood, looking ghastly.
"That's about enough, this Yin Qi is sufficient for me to recover thirty percent of my cultivation. Once I bring these bodies back and turn them into a ghost corpse army, hmph, I won't spare those two little bastards!"
He muttered to himself, his hoarse voice drifting in the night wind.
He raised his hand, and the three ghost corpses immediately dispersed, heading in different directions to search for new graves while the smallest ghost corpse stayed by his side.
Yang Cheng's eyes narrowed and remained still, speaking softly: "Now isn't the best time, let's wait until he starts digging up bodies, he'll be focusing all his attention on them then, and his guard will be down."
Feng Jiuge nodded and nestled back into Yang Cheng's embrace.
The two of them waited quietly as time ticked by, the commotion outside increased.
Yin Wujiang found a new grave, the deceased had been buried for just three days.
"Fresh, so fresh!"
He let out a nauseating laugh, his withered palm caressed the tombstone as if handling a treasure.
Then he formed a seal with his hands, a black mist surged from his palms, drilling into the grave.
The soil began to loosen, and the creaking of coffin boards could be heard. Shortly after, the coffin lid was pried open, soil splattered, and a corpse garbed in burial clothes slowly ascended from the grave, hovering in mid-air.
It was a middle-aged man, his face pale, his body shriveled, but overall still intact, clearly deceased not long ago and hadn't yet begun to decay substantially.
Yin Wujiang nodded in satisfaction, with a flick of his hand, the body landed steadily on the ground and was hoisted up by a ghost corpse.
He didn't pause, continuing to search for the next new grave.
Soon, he unearthed another body, this time a young woman, her features delicate, dressed in a red burial gown.
"What a pity, such a beautiful woman, such a waste to be dead. Might as well have her turned into a ghost corpse to keep by my side forever."
Yin Wujiang licked his lips, eyes filled with excitement.
Just then, Yang Cheng sprang like a bolt of lightning from the Tomb Guardian's hut, charging straight at Yin Wujiang.
Feng Jiuge coordinated seamlessly, flanking him from the other side, her twin blades unsheathed, gleaming coldly.
Yin Wujiang felt a chill on his back, his face changing instantly. With a thought, several ghost corpses blocked in front of him, lunging at Yang Cheng.
"Old bastard, we meet again!"
Yang Cheng sneered, his Moon Golden Wheel flew out from his waist, its red and green lights carving a brilliant arc in the night sky.
As the blade spun, a ghost corpse's head soared, black blood spewing forth.
No choice, if their heads aren't chopped off, the ghost corpses will bite, and then you'd have to find a Funeral Master to stitch them back.
Yin Wujiang's face darkened, his hands forming seals. The remaining ghost corpses pounced together, their movements stiff but extremely fast and overwhelmingly powerful.
A ghost corpse swung its decaying fist at Yang Cheng's face. He sidestepped and delivered a reverse palm strike to its chest.
Bang!
The ghost corpse was slapped backward but quickly got back up, continuing its charge.
"These ghost corpses are more troublesome than the ones last time."
Yang Cheng frowned slightly. Though also controlled by Yin Wujiang, these ghost corpses bloated with evil energy were much tougher than those encountered in the basement before.
"Use your blood!"
Feng Jiuge shouted, her short blade piercing a ghost corpse's throat, but only a small amount of black blood flowed, and the ghost corpse didn't fall; it even grabbed her short blade and yanked.
"No, my blood will melt ghost corpses. Lin Wen promised the families to return the whole bodies."
Yang Cheng refused, cutting with the Moon Golden Wheel on the ghost corpses, but these were too sinister; even with their heads off, they could still pounce on him precisely.
"There's no point in dealing with these ghost corpses, go directly after the old bastard!"
He told Feng Jiuge, and they nodded tacitly, then bypassed the ghost corpses, charging at Yin Wujiang from left and right.
Yin Wujiang's remaining right eye was full of anger and unwillingness, he gritted his teeth and said, "You little bastards, you've messed up my plans again!"
Yang Cheng sneered, "You're grave-robbing, who's more of a beast than you? If you like playing with corpses so much, why don't you go die yourself?"
"What do you know! These corpses would just rot anyway, better let me refine them into ghost corpses, use their last bit of energy!"
Yin Wujiang roared.
"Bullshit!"
Feng Jiuge spat, "You're refining ghost corpses to practice evil techniques, don't pretend to be righteous!"
Yin Wujiang knew he was heavily injured, his cultivation regressed, and wasn't a match for Yang Cheng and Feng Jiuge; staying meant only death.
He hesitated only briefly before turning to flee.
