Role Stealer: The Script Executioner

Chapter 101: The Name Before the Tower

  • Next Chapter

The blue light widened.

The voice called again.

"Come home."

I remembered the name.

Not because the Tower returned it to me.

Not because the Architect Authority revealed it.

I remembered it because Kai had been carrying it all these years.

He had not known what it meant. He had only preserved the sound.

A name spoken by a boy beside a wooden door.

A name written on the first systems notebook.

A name Mira had used before the Company took us.

A name the Tower had rejected because it belonged to a person, not a function.

I said it aloud.

"Elias."

Kai stared at me.

The road beneath us trembled.

Mira looked toward the blue structure.

"Aster?"

Aster’s expression changed.

"That is not my name."

The voice from the structure called again.

"Elias Vale."

Marcus lowered his head.

Elian remained behind him, watching me with an expression I could not read.

The name passed through the field.

Every stored mind heard it.

Every open door repeated it.

Elias.

Elias.

Elias.

Aster took one step backward.

"No."

I looked at him.

"The voice is calling me."

"It is calling the name you carried before the first system."

"That was your name."

Aster’s eyes hardened.

"No. It was yours."

The road cracked between us.

Kai looked at Aster.

"Then why did Mira call you Aster?"

"Because that was the name she gave me after the fire."

Mira’s face went pale.

"You remember."

"I remembered when the first door opened."

"Why didn’t you tell me?"

"Because the name Elias belonged to the person who built the system."

Aster turned toward me.

"And the name Arthur belonged to the person who decided what to do with it."

The blue structure shifted in the distance.

Its walls opened like an enormous machine unfolding. Inside, I saw towers of glass, suspended bodies, and hundreds of rooms lit by white light.

The preserved original world.

Not the world beyond the Tower.

The world before the Tower.

The world where bodies had been designed, tested, and stored.

Kai stared at the structure.

"Are those bodies?"

Marcus answered.

"Yes."

"For whom?"

"For the people who could not return to their own."

The road beneath us became solid again.

Elian stepped forward.

"The original system was not built to imprison minds," she said. "It was built to give them somewhere to return."

Aster laughed without humor.

"That is what Arthur said too."

"Elian?" I asked.

She looked at me.

"You remember the name. Do you remember the promise?"

"No."

"Then the structure will show you."

Kai moved closer to me.

"Do we have to go inside?"

The voice answered from the blue light.

"You already are."

The world changed.

The road disappeared.

We stood inside a vast white room.

There were no walls, but the blue light formed boundaries around us. Rows of transparent chambers extended in every direction. Each chamber contained a body suspended in liquid.

Some were children.

Some were adults.

Some had silver lines beneath their skin.

Others appeared completely ordinary.

Every body had a name written above it.

Most names were unfamiliar.

One belonged to Mira.

Another belonged to Aster.

A third belonged to Kai.

The chamber marked **KAI VEYR** was empty.

Kai stopped.

"Where is my body?"

The voice answered.

"It was removed."

"By whom?"

"By Arthur."

I looked at the nearest chamber.

A body shaped like mine hung inside it. The face was different. The hair was lighter. The chest carried a crown-shaped scar.

Kai stared at it.

"That was meant for me?"

"No."

The chamber opened.

The body fell forward, but it did not touch the floor. The blue light held it in place.

"It was built from your memory."

Kai stepped closer.

"Why?"

"To create a body that could carry the first structure without carrying the first sacrifice."

Mira looked at me.

"Arthur built a replacement."

"No," Elian said. "He built a continuation."

Aster’s face became cold.

"He was trying to build a version of himself that could enter a body without being rejected."

I looked at the suspended body.

"That is not me."

The body’s eyes opened.

It turned toward me.

Its mouth moved.

"Not yet."

Kai stepped between us.

"You are not him."

The body smiled.

"I am what he wanted to become."

The blue room began filling with sound.

Thousands of heartbeats.

Thousands of breaths.

Every chamber activated at once.

Bodies opened their eyes.

Some looked toward Kai.

Some looked toward me.

Some looked at Mira.

Aster pressed his hand against the nearest glass.

"This place was supposed to be empty."

"It was sealed when the first world collapsed," Elian said.

"Then how are they alive?"

"They are not alive."

One of the bodies turned its head.

Aster pulled his hand away.

The voice from the chamber spoke.

"They are waiting for transfer."

Kai looked at the bodies.

"Transfer to where?"

"To the world that survived."

Mira raised her blade.

"There is no world that can receive all of them."

"There is now."

The voice moved through the room.

"Beyond the first door was not an escape route. It was a staging ground."

The blue light formed an image above us.

The Tower appeared.

Then the first city.

Then the black structure beneath it.

Then the current world.

Every layer was connected by roads of light.

The stored minds were not meant to remain in Beyond.

They had been waiting for a destination.

A body.

A world.

A home.

Kai looked at me.

"What happens if they transfer?"

"The boundaries between minds will collapse again," I said.

The voice answered.

"Not if the transfer is controlled."

Aster turned toward Elian.

"You promised that before."

"I was wrong."

"You built the first structure."

"I built the containment field."

"And allowed Arthur to build the authority system."

"I believed he would use it temporarily."

"Everyone believed something."

Elian looked at me.

"That is how the Company began."

Marcus stepped toward the center of the room.

"The Company was not founded by Arthur."

"No," Elian said. "It was founded by the people who feared what Arthur had built."

Marcus’s eyes narrowed.

"You told us the system could be controlled."

"I told you it could be limited."

"You gave us the authority."

"I gave you the responsibility."

"You gave us a weapon."

"And you decided that a weapon was easier than an agreement."

The chambers began opening.

One by one, the bodies fell into the blue light.

They did not hit the floor.

Their forms dissolved into thin streams of memory.

The streams entered the room and searched for a destination.

Some moved toward Kai.

Some toward Mira.

One moved toward me.

I reached for it.

A scene appeared in front of my eyes.

A young man standing in the unfinished house.

Elias.

Not Arthur.

Not the original architect.

Me.

I was holding the first systems notebook.

Aster stood beside me.

Mira was sitting on the floor.

Kai was asleep against the wall.

I was explaining the first door.

"It will not send people away," I said.

Aster asked, "Then what will it do?"

"It will give them a place to return from."

Mira looked at me.

"Return to what?"

I did not answer.

The memory ended.

I understood then.

I had not built the first door to send Aster away.

I had built it to give everyone a way back.

The original Arthur had taken the design and changed the purpose.

He had transformed return into exile.

He had transformed memory into authority.

He had transformed a temporary structure into the Tower.

The voice spoke.

"Elias was the name of the architect before the system claimed him."

Aster turned toward me.

"You knew."

"I forgot."

"You chose to forget."

"I think I did."

"You gave the memory to Kai."

Kai looked at me.

"Why?"

"Because I believed you would protect it."

Kai’s face tightened.

"I was a child."

"I know."

"And you still gave it to me."

"Because the adults around us had already chosen the system over the people inside it."

Aster stepped toward us.

"You gave him the name, the first command, and the memory of the door."

Kai shook his head.

"I do not remember receiving them."

"You carried them anyway."

The blue structure shook.

The empty chamber marked **KAI VEYR** opened completely.

Inside it was not a body.

It was a doorway.

Beyond the doorway stood the world outside.

A road beneath a blue sky.

A city without the Company.

People walking through ordinary streets.

Children carrying wooden birds.

But the world was not empty.

A figure stood beside the road.

It had my face.

It wore a black coat.

It was holding a silver crown.

The same image that had appeared above the black seat.

The original Arthur.

Not a record.

Not a reflection.

A stored mind.

A preserved decision.

A piece of the architect who had built the Tower.

Kai moved toward the doorway.

The figure raised the crown.

"Stay away from him," I said.

The original Arthur looked at me.

"Elias."

The name made the room tremble.

"You remember now."

"I remember enough."

"You remember building the first system."

"I remember building a way back."

"You built the structure. I gave it purpose."

"You gave it a prison."

"I gave it continuity."

"You gave it victims."

The original Arthur looked toward Kai.

"He was the first one who could carry it."

Kai stepped forward.

"I was a child."

"You were compatible."

"I was a child."

"You were necessary."

Aster raised his blade.

"Say that again."

Arthur smiled.

"You all confuse necessity with cruelty because you were not the ones who had to decide."

Mira stepped beside Kai.

"You did not have to decide. You wanted control."

The original Arthur looked at her.

"You remember the crown."

Mira’s hand moved to her scar.

"I remember holding it."

"You remember why you accepted it."

"I accepted it to protect Kai."

"You accepted it to preserve the door."

"I accepted it because you threatened to erase him."

Arthur looked at Kai.

"I never threatened him."

"You made the threat unnecessary."

The blue room began collapsing.

The bodies in the chambers dissolved faster.

Memories flooded toward the doorway.

The world beyond began receiving them.

People in the distant city stopped walking.

Some fell to their knees.

Some looked toward the sky.

Some began speaking names they had never known.

A voice appeared in the room.

**TRANSFER SEQUENCE INITIATED.**

**DESTINATION: ORIGINAL WORLD.**

**COMPATIBILITY: UNSTABLE.**

Kai turned toward me.

"If they transfer, the boundary will collapse."

"Yes."

"If we stop it, they remain trapped."

"Yes."

The original Arthur lifted the crown.

"There is one solution."

"No," I said.

"You know what it is."

"Do not say it."

"One body must carry the entire structure."

Aster’s eyes narrowed.

"Whose?"

Arthur looked at me.

"Elian created the containment. I created the authority. Kai carried the vessel. You carried the consequence."

The crown moved toward me through the air.

"The system has always been waiting for its final architect."

I reached for the crown with the Architect Authority.

The command appeared.

ACCEPT.

The room darkened.

Kai grabbed my wrist.

"Do not."

"If I accept, the transfer may stabilize."

"You will become the door."

"I know."

"You will lose yourself."

"I know."

Mira stepped between us and the crown.

"There is another way."

Arthur laughed.

"There is always another way. You simply have not found it yet."

Mira looked at Aster.

Aster looked at Kai.

Kai looked at me.

The four positions returned.

Body.

Authority.

Witness.

Remainder.

But this time, the system added a fifth.

Destination.

The world beyond the doorway.

I understood.

The system did not need one body to carry everything.

It needed a structure that could divide responsibility without dividing people.

I reached into the Authority.

The commands opened.

DISTRIBUTE.

RETURN.

RESTORE.

SHARE.

Then a new command appeared.

SEPARATE WITHOUT ERASING.

I seized it.

The original Arthur screamed.

"No."

Kai placed his hand over mine.

Mira placed hers over Kai’s.

Aster pressed his palm against the blue chamber.

Elian raised her hand from across the room.

Marcus stood behind her.

Five points.

Five authorities.

The blue structure responded.

The crown stopped in the air.

The bodies inside the chambers became light.

The memories separated.

Some returned to their original owners.

Some entered the world as dreams.

Some remained in Beyond.

Some found new bodies.

None were forced into a single vessel.

The original Arthur’s form began breaking apart.

He looked at me.

"You are destroying the system."

"No."

I pulled the command toward me.

"I am ending its ownership."

His face twisted.

"You cannot build a world without an architect."

"I am not building it alone."

The command opened.

**SEPARATION WITHOUT ERASURE: ACCEPTED.**

The blue structure split into five bands of light.

One entered Kai.

One entered me.

One entered Mira.

One entered Aster.

The final band crossed through Elian, Marcus, and the world beyond.

The transfer stopped.

The chambers emptied.

The original Arthur disappeared.

But before he vanished completely, he looked toward Kai.

"You still have one memory left."

Kai stared at him.

"Which one?"

"The moment you chose to open the first door."

Arthur dissolved.

The blue room became silent.

For a few seconds, no one moved.

Then the world beyond the doorway changed.

The ordinary city under the blue sky began filling with doors.

Not Tower doors.

Not Company gates.

Small wooden doors appeared in homes, streets, schools, and empty fields.

Each one led to a memory that belonged to someone else.

A warning.

A possibility.

A way back.

Mira looked at me.

"Is that safe?"

"No."

Aster smiled faintly.

"Then it is probably honest."

Kai looked toward the nearest wooden door.

"What happens now?"

The voice answered.

"Now the world remembers that it was built from choices."

The door to the original world opened wider.

The fourth bell fell silent.

A final message appeared above the blue structure.

**HOME RESTORED.**

Then another line appeared beneath it.

**ARCHITECT IDENTITY: UNRESOLVED.**

Kai looked at me.

"Elias."

I turned toward him.

He spoke the name carefully, as if returning it to me.

"Do you want to be Elias?"

I looked at the world beyond.

At the doors.

At Mira.

At Aster.

At the people who were finally receiving their own memories.

At the Tower collapsing behind us.

Then I looked at Kai.

"I want to be the person who chooses what comes next."

The doorway opened.

We stepped through together.

Behind us, the blue structure closed.

And somewhere above the restored world, a fifth bell began to ring.
