Rise of the Lustful Evil Monarch (Re)
Chapter 707: The Birth of a Weapon Spirit
Third Person’s POV
The sensation was rather peculiar, and after examining it more closely, Ethan had a guess at what was happening.
The awakened weapon spirit felt much like a newborn baby, possessing little more than its most basic instincts and communicating them to its originator through the bond formed by his blood.
And judging by the intensity of its hunger, it clearly wanted something.
However, contrary to what Ethan might have expected from a weapon bearing such a sinister appearance, its appetite wasn’t directed toward blood or flesh.
Instead, the spirit seemed to crave natural dark elemental energy and metal ores infused with the affinity of darkness.
Only then did Ethan finally let out a sigh of relief.
He had initially wondered whether awakening such an ancient weapon might have released some terrifying ancient being that had been lying dormant within it.
Yet, as he continued sensing the spirit’s instincts through their connection, he gradually understood that its hunger was more closely related to its need to repair itself.
After remaining dormant for so long, the weapon had finally awakened and established a bond with someone whose power resonated with the very Law of Devouring upon which its existence was based.
It was only natural that its spirit would instinctively seek the resources necessary to restore its damaged body.
Realizing this, Ethan’s eyes lit up as a sudden idea occurred to him.
Without wasting any more time, he reached into his spatial storage and took out the top-grade Rank Three dark scythe he had acquired earlier.
Holding it firmly in his hand, he brought it before the devilish maw on the broken saber’s hilt, wondering whether the weapon spirit would accept it as nourishment.
The response was immediate.
In the next instant, the maw opened wide, revealing a seemingly impossible row of sharp teeth.
Before Ethan could even blink, the space in front of the hilt seemed to distort as the enormous mouth lunged forward and devoured the entire scythe in a single bite.
The Rank Three weapon vanished into its mouth without leaving behind so much as a fragment.
Ethan watched the scene unfold, momentarily stunned by how easily the broken saber had swallowed another weapon.
However, before he could ponder what would happen to the scythe, the familiar voice of the Eterna Nexus suddenly rang out inside his mind.
[Wow, I didn’t expect an idiot like you to figure that out on your own.]
Ethan’s expression twitched slightly at the comment.
He had to admit that the Nexus’s praise was rather amusing, especially considering that he hadn’t actually figured everything out by himself.
He had simply somehow known what the newly awakened spirit wanted and decided to see whether the scythe could satisfy its hunger.
Still, he wasn’t about to argue over such a trivial matter.
[Ahhh! How can you be so lucky?
To obtain such a godly weapon, and one whose spirit has been born anew, no less!]
The Nexus’s voice rose with every word, her excitement accompanied by a very noticeable hint of frustration.
[Do you have any idea how many people would go mad with jealousy if they learned about this?
I am talking about countless powerful beings, including those at Rank Five and Rank Six!]
Ethan raised an eyebrow at this new information, listening as the Nexus continued her explanation.
[All weapons above Rank Four possess weapon spirits.
These spirits must be nurtured, and their masters need to establish a bond with them from the very beginning.
However, most weapon spirits that survive their masters’ deaths eventually perish as well.
Some are unable to endure the loss of their bond, while others simply cannot maintain their existence without the necessary nourishment.
In this case, the original spirit of your saber most likely met the same fate.]
The Nexus paused briefly, as though the thought alone was enough to irritate it.
[But you?
You have a newborn weapon spirit that you can nurture as you grow stronger!
And that’s not even the best part.]
Her voice became animated once more, almost as though she was struggling to contain her envy.
[Even if you do nothing beyond nurturing this spirit and allowing the weapon to grow alongside you, your saber has the potential to reach its former peak—Rank Seven!]
Ethan’s gaze shifted toward the broken saber in his hand.
Although the blade had shed much of its rust and dust, it still looked far from the kind of weapon that could make powerful beings lose their composure.
Yet, if the Nexus’s words were true, its current appearance concealed a potential that was far beyond what he had initially imagined.
[Normally, a weapon’s potential is limited by the grade of the materials from which it was forged.
No matter how strong the bond between a master and their weapon becomes, the weapon itself cannot keep up once its master grows beyond the limits imposed by its original materials.
Even if the master possesses the strength to advance further, the weapon will eventually become a limitation rather than an asset.]
The Nexus sounded increasingly aggrieved as she explained the difference.
[But your situation is completely different!
Since the spirit of your saber has been born anew, it can grow alongside you rather than remain bound by the limitations of its former existence.
And considering its unique devouring power, as long as you continue to ’nurture’ it with rarer metals, treasures, and higher-grade weapons, you won’t need to worry about replacing your weapon every time you reach a higher level.
This saber has the potential to accompany you all the way to Rank Seven!]
By the time the Nexus finished speaking, Ethan could practically feel the jealousy and frustration radiating from her voice.
He couldn’t help chuckling at her reaction.
For once, the Nexus seemed even more emotionally invested in his good fortune than he was, and the contrast between her excitement and her obvious envy made the whole explanation rather entertaining.
Ethan lowered his gaze toward the gray blade, but it was at that moment that something shocking happened.
