Chapter 299 What You See May Not Be True
Instead of trying to break Kan's attack, Damien executed Mirage of Myriad Phantasms and dodged it.
However, his sword seemed to lit up with bright amber flames, and Kan only saw a shadow whizzing past him.
He held his breath and quickly used a movement skill to jump backward. If he were even a second late, he might have got sliced into two.
However…
"Argh!" He got slashed on his stomach even though he tried to escape. However, if he had stood on the same spot, then his injury would have been severe.
Damien came to a stop ten meters in front of Kan and saw a 30cm wide burned slash mark on Kan's stomach and smirked. However, he had already begun to pant, and sweat droplets were streaking down his skin.
He came to a stop only to catch his breath since he had been fighting nonstop for a while.
Damien decided to use his remaining energy to gamble on his speed and finish off Kan because he had been fighting Kan for more than ten minutes, and his Undying Wrath skill was taking quite a toll on his body.
Previously, any enemies or beasts he faced, he quickly finished them off and thus never felt the strain on his body like how he was feeling now. And now he realized how scary the second phase of Undying Wrath would be.
Kan's guts were telling him that Damien was going to use his speed to get him, and so without wasting any further time, Kan swiveled his sabre in the air in a vigorous manner as he shouted, "Take this, you speedster!"
A twisting tornado of ethereal energy about three meters tall shot towards Damien. His eyes widened, and he quickly tried to move back using Mirage of Myriad Phantasms.
But the tornado suddenly burst, and the shockwaves of the explosion threw Damien off his feet and sent him flying for more than fifty meters.
The nearby shops and buildings crumbled down while the bigger buildings had severe structural damage.
Even the ground completely shattered at the point of explosion, and its bits and pieces were lying all over the street.
If he hadn't used his movement skill, he would have suffered severe injuries from that blast.
Kan let out a roar of laughter, "Haha, brat, you think your speed makes you omnipotent? Think again! Now obediently die for me."
Kan even decided to take it easy seeing Damien lying down on the ground.
Blood streaked down Damien's lips as he suffered some internal injuries from the blast. He wiped the blood off the corner of his lips as he muttered, "Old man, you asked for it."
Damien's eyes focused as his Willbreaker again lit up with amber flames. He then executed his Mirage of Myriad Phantasms to the maximum without holding back.
The ground beneath his feet shattered, and a gust of wind rippled towards all sides as he shot forward towards Kan.
Kan had just used one of his most powerful attacks, and seeing Damien getting blasted away, he thought that Damien should be at least half-dead.
However, his brows raised when he saw Damien rushing towards him as the dust cleared. But he wasn't worried, seeing that Damien's speed was way lesser than before to the point he didn't feel it was a challenge to kill him.
He thought that Damien was too injured to move fast and readied his sabre to cut his throat. There was no need to rush forward since Damien was anyway coming towards him.
And just as Damien reached near him, Kan, with an ecstatic smirk, slashed at Damien's neck.
But his smirk stiffened when he saw that Damien's figure dissolved into thin air, "What the hell?"
"AHHHH!" A loud roar of pain escaped from Kan's throat when he felt a searing sensation from his back all the way to his chest.
With an aghast expression, he slowly looked below to see a sharp blazing blade protruding out of his chest with his blood burning up all over the blade.
His jaws were slacked with horror and shock as he even felt all his cultivation escaping into thin air since his ethereal core was punctured.
He tried to twist his neck slowly to see which demon was able to stab him from the back and the worst of his fears came true when he saw that it was Damien looking at him with a cold stare.
"You...howw...." Kan mumbled as he felt his whole body going limp.
A cold smirk hung on Damien's lips as he said, "Next time you fight a speedster, think twice. What you see may not be true"
Kan's eyes became bloodshot, but all his anger and indignation only exacerbated his injuries, and he immediately died.
His body slid off Damien's blade and onto the ground. However, Damien didn't let his soul essence go to waste and absorbed it discreetly.
He didn't take his life essence since he didn't need it for now, and it would also be highly suspicious to do it in public unless he had time to dispose of the body.
He could always take the life essences of ferocious beasts, and right now, his ethereal core was filled with it without further space to take in more.
Just as he wondered how Triton was doing, a voice came from behind, "Took you long enough."
Damien was surprised as he turned around to see Triton standing behind him with a slight smile. His clothes were perfectly neat as before, and not even any scratch was visible on his body.
"How long were you standing nearby?" Damien asked in simple amazement.
"Long enough for me to feel sleepy," Triton said with a soft chuckle.
Damien was astonished that Triton was easily able to handle three Sky Ethereal Realm cultivators all alone and so quickly!
"Hmph, show off," Damien scoffed as he rolled his eyes, seeing Triton's smug face.
Triton clicked his tongue with a pitiful hint as he said, "Seems like you had it tough."
Damien looked down and saw that his clothes were in tatters with some minor injuries here and there.
He quickly took out a healing pill and swallowed it, letting it assimilate inside his body.
Triton continued with a slight smirk, "You know you could have asked me for help. As your friend, you shouldn't feel any shame in asking."
Triton couldn't help but feel like pulling Damien's strings for his amusement.
'Friend?' Damien wondered if Triton already considered him as a friend.
"Heh, I was merely practicing my moves against him. Otherwise, I could have finished him with a single strike if I really wanted to. After all, it's not every day I come upon a good training partner whom I can afford to kill."
Triton shook his head with a smile as he turned around, "Sure, whatever you say."
Damien said in a confident tone, "Give me some more time, and one day I will be your rival."
Triton said with a side glance, "I will be waiting for you then."
Damien was surprised that Triton took him seriously since if anyone else heard what he said, they would think that Damien was crazy or he was joking since the gap between him and Triton was so huge.
'An interesting fellow indeed…' Damien chuckled inwardly. However, he would feel perplexed whenever he feels a strange familiarity with Triton sometimes. But he just couldn't put his finger on it.
Ana came out of a hidden corner and was amused by the small banter between Triton and Damien before and wondered how powerful youngsters like these acted so normally.
Usually, the young geniuses she had come upon would mostly be too arrogant and aloof. And even though their attitude seemed off-putting, she felt that it was natural since if one was superior to others, they would develop a sense of arrogance and pride about their abilities.
However, Damien and Triton seemed down-to-earth compared to other famous geniuses in the Gale Empire.
And mostly, she was shocked and astonished seeing how these two took care of all these powerful men so easily. Damien fought against twenty-five elite guards and a senior elder while Triton took on three Sky Ethereal Realm cultivators!
As Ana joined them, Triton said, "We have to get out of here. Some higher-ranked officials might come here once they find out the city lord got disposed of."
Saying so, Triton took out his flying mount from his beast bag and flew away along with Damien and Ana.
However, a few kilometers north of the area, Damien fought against Kan; three mangled corpses were lying on the ground with their blood strewn all over the pavement.
If someone said that one of these corpses belonged to the City Lord Klaus, no one would believe it since they can't even recognize this mangled shape of a corpse. It was as if all three were crushed by some giant with monstrous strength.
And the dead bodies of the twenty-five elite guards and Kan lying on the streets surely horrified those who came out after some time.
One thing was sure...they would never forget the names Tonton and Pompon since these infamous characters indeed caused complete unrest in the Bluewind City. And there would be many intelligence guilds who would be using all their power to find out the background of these two terrifying geniuses.
However, most of the commoners were happy that the tyranny of Roran and his father ended. They could only pray that their future city lord would be a better one.
