Chapter 203 I See You As A Friend
He saw her using only one hand to take a bite and stopped her, "Wait, that's not how you hold a burger."
He took out another burger and held it in both of his hands, "This is how you hold a burger."
Reva wondered why one would use two hands for just holding a small thing that could fit in one's palm.
But then she saw that some of the fillings in between were almost going to slip out because of how she was holding it.
She used both her hands and felt that it seemed easier to take a bite from it in an elegant manner.
She was self-conscious of eating before Damien but then thought that it was no big deal.
She took a small bite from it and closed her eyes as she relished its taste.
She opened her eyes, and her brows raised, surprised at how delicious and delightful it seemed. It tasted salty, sour, sweet with a bit of crunch.
But these combinations of taste and textures seemed as if it was really a heavenly creation!
Feeling that the bite was too small to relish its taste longer, she took another bite without even noticing Damien's amused look.
The more she savored the burger's taste, the more she wanted to eat more of it. It was as if the burger was a sort of addictive drug that made one want more of it as they ate more.
Within just a minute, she finished the whole burger!
"Wow, I thought you were a light eater. But now I realized that either you are a hearty eater or you were hungry for too long," Damien chuckled.
Reva suddenly realized how ungraceful her actions were, especially when she was sitting before Damien.
She felt embarrassed for looking like a glutton and getting teased by Damien. She avoided his gaze and said with a straight face, "I ate it fast only because it was a food I had never tasted before."
Damien smiled, "So you liked it? It was very delicious, right? Come on, you can tell me. Tell me your true feelings."
Reva hesitated for a moment and said in a low voice, "Yes, it was."
"It was what?" Damien prodded as he moved his face closer.
Reva's lips pressed together, seeing that Damien wanted her to say clearly how good the burger was.
She finally said as she looked at him, "It was...delicious."
Damien triumphantly smiled as he said, "See, didn't I tell you it is my heavenly creation. Had you refused to eat it, you would have surely regretted it. You can eat one more if you like it so much." Damien pointed to the only remaining burger inside the basket.
Reva inadvertently swallowed her saliva when she saw the last piece of burger.
In truth, just as Damien said, she was too busy to even have a morsel of food for months, and now she felt ravenous after having a taste of such a delectable snack.
However, she controlled her hunger and temptation as she said, "It's fine, I am full. You can eat the last one. After all, you brought it to eat for yourself."
Damien shook his head, "Come on. Don't lie, Reva. I know you are not full at all. Look at how your poor stomach is begging you to eat this burger. As you are my friend, I can make a small sacrifice by giving this burger to you. Anyway, I eat a lot, unlike you, so it doesn't matter if I don't eat this burger."
Reva let out a pronounced sigh as she reluctantly took the last burger. Even though she badly wanted to eat it, she didn't want to come off as a glutton.
But now that she was holding the last burger in her hands, she didn't hesitate any longer and started eating. This time, she made sure that she did not lose herself in its taste and that her actions didn't seem inelegant.
Damien rested his chin on his palm as he keenly looked at her eating the burger.
Reva felt his intense gaze and felt self-conscious seeing him look at her eat so closely.
She stopped eating and asked him in a slightly flustered tone, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Damien answered straightforwardly, "I thought how you could look so cute and graceful even while you eat."
Cute?... Reva was surprised to hear that word as no one had ever called her cute before. She wondered how she even looked cute, especially when eating.
However, for some reason, she liked Damien's compliment but didn't show it on her face. She just squinted her eyes at Damien and glanced away to continue eating. But this time, she was more conscious of her actions.
Just as she finished her burger, Damien said happily, "Seems like you really love these burgers. I will bring more of them next time and maybe some other kind of snacks as well, which I am sure you will like. Don't worry, all these snacks are healthy, and there won't be any negative effects on your body but only benefits.
Even if your cultivation is powerful, it is good to have some food as it will improve your mood and make you feel good. After all, food is one of life's greatest pleasures. Just because you are a princess and have a lot of responsibilities doesn't mean you don't deserve to enjoy it."
Reva wanted to tell him there was no need, but her heart refused to give in, and because of that, she didn't say anything. Hearing Damien's words, it was like she was convinced that she should not refuse him.
But she wondered why Damien was so nice to her. Even if he claimed that she was his friend, she hadn't done much for him.
She saw how happy he seemed when she said his food was delicious and felt amused to see such a side of him.
Her expression now didn't seem as cold as before, and her tone became slightly soft as she said, "Thank you...for sharing."
Damien shook his finger, "There's no need to say thanks between friends. Well, even if you don't see me as a friend, I do. So there's no need."
"I do," Reva said quietly.
Damien raised one of his brows and asked, "I do what?" He wondered what she meant to say.
Reva hesitated, and after a few seconds, she said in a low voice with a downward gaze, "I do...see you as a friend."
Damien was surprised at this unforeseen change of events. He didn't expect her to acknowledge him as her friend this soon. He thought he would need some more time to at least melt her heart slightly.
But it seemed as if he underestimated himself or overestimated her cold personality. He then realized that probably it was because she was still a young woman after all.
He asked in disbelief, "Wait...do you really mean that? Or just messing with me?"
Reva slowly turned her gaze towards Damien and saw his doubting look, which seemed as if he found it hard to believe what she just said.
She then realized she said something very surprising as she never had a true friend and asked herself why she said it impulsively.
She never planned to acknowledge Damien as her friend, but after interacting with him till now and the things that happened, she inadvertently blurted out those words as if it was only right she said them. She didn't want to feel that she owed Damien too much.
After a moment's reflection, she said, "I-I meant it."
Damien beamed, "Then if that's true, then you should let me tie this friendship band on your wrist."
Damien took out a beautiful silver band with the word 'Friend' inscribed on it. He had already made one just in case his plans worked. But it seemed like he needed it earlier than he expected.
"Come on, give me your wrist and let me tie this. This symbolizes our friendship and as a reminder," Damien gestured.
"I…don't think there's a need for a wristband for friends." Reva was slightly surprised, as she had never heard of a friendship band. And when Damien asked for her wrist, she hesitated because she had never let a man even touch a corner of her dress.
"Others might not do this because, as you know, in this world, the concept of friends is just a weak string that connects people, which could break any time. But for me, it's different. Friends are people I value very much, and I always tie this band around my true friends. It is proof of my trust in them. If you really see me as your friend, you should accept this." Damien said earnestly.
