Sun Ningxiang grew a little shy under Yang Jing’s unwavering gaze, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks like a ripe apple.

She instinctively tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear and asked in a low voice, "Junior Brother, shall we set off now?"

Yang Jing quickly snapped out of his daze. A gentle smile touched his lips as he nodded. "Alright, let’s go."

Sun Ningxiang hummed in agreement. She turned to close the courtyard gate, locking it with a key from her waist. Then she joined Yang Jing, and together they started down Yunxi Peak.

As they walked, many Yunxi Peak disciples saw them walking side-by-side, and their gazes followed the pair.

Although Sun Ningxiang hadn’t been on Yunxi Peak for long, she was already legendary among the disciples. With her striking beauty, gentle nature, and special status as a companion to Peak Master Zhou Yunyi, she was seen by many as an unattainable flower, a beauty far beyond their reach.

In the eyes of most Yunxi Peak disciples, Sun Ningxiang held a very special status. If any ordinary disciple dared to walk so closely with her, they would undoubtedly feel resentful, even if they said nothing. Some might even secretly target the person.

But if that person was Yang Jing, everything was completely different.

Although Yang Jing had lost to Chu Yunhai in the battle for the title of top prospect, his name still held the number one spot on the Hidden Dragon List in the Steward Main Hall. His strength and talent were beyond question.

He hadn’t lost to Chu Yunhai due to a lack of talent on his part. Rather, Chu Yunhai was just too phenomenal. He had awakened a War Body, possessed a superior constitution, and had an astonishing aptitude for comprehension, making him a true anomaly among his peers.

To the ordinary disciples of Yunxi Peak, Yang Jing was like an insurmountable mountain. They weren’t even qualified to chase after him, much less feel any jealousy or resentment.

Seeing Yang Jing walking side-by-side with the unattainable beauty of their hearts, they looked like a perfect match—a talented man and a beautiful woman. Though the disciples felt a pang of envy, none of them could bring themselves to say a bad word.

In fact, many secretly felt that two such outstanding individuals belonged together, a match made in heaven.

Just then, Yang Jing’s keen senses picked up on a gaze from the crowd fixed upon him. It was thick with an icy malevolence, laced with undisguised jealousy and hatred, like the flicking tongue of a viper.

Yang Jing followed the gaze and saw Yuwen Mingjue standing under the shade of a nearby tree. He was staring at him with a sullen face, the malice in his eyes completely undisguised.

When Yuwen Mingjue saw Yang Jing look over, his gaze icy and filled with a hint of killing intent, he shuddered. A chill shot up from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.

’He knew full well that even though Yang Jing had lost to Chu Yunhai, his strength was still far beyond anything he could ever hope to match. Crushing him would be as easy as crushing an ant.’

’He was just lucky this was the Xuanzhen Sect, where strict rules forbade disciples from killing one another. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have dared to just watch from afar; he would have hidden as far away from Yang Jing as possible.’

Yuwen Mingjue suppressed the fear in his heart, no longer daring to meet Yang Jing’s gaze.

He snorted, curling his lip in feigned disdain, then turned and strode away, not daring to linger a moment longer.

’In his mind, Yang Jing had just lost to Chu Yunhai and been stripped of his title as the top prospect. This had to be his lowest point, a time of utter dejection.’

’His current calm and collected demeanor was surely just a front. Inside, he was probably seething with frustration and panic, just putting on a brave face for Sun Ningxiang.’

Yang Jing, however, had looked away the moment he identified Yuwen Mingjue, not deigning to give him a second glance.

’The man was nothing more than a narrow-minded, sycophantic clown.’

’The gulf between them was as wide as the sky. The man wasn’t even qualified to be his rival. To get entangled with someone like that would only be beneath him.’

’I’ll just find an opportunity to kill him later.’

’In his eyes, Yuwen Mingjue was already a dead man walking—no different from bones in a tomb. He wasn’t worth wasting any more energy or thought on.’
