Rich Parents Found Me After I Got a Tycoon System? Yeah, I'm Not Interested
Chapter 390 - 389: I Didn’t Expect You to Be Like This, Grandpa Lu
Lu Yunque sighed inwardly. He was basically running the massive Lu Family corporation all by himself, so finding time to return to the old mansion was already a luxury stolen from his busy schedule.
At the office, he often wished he could clone himself—split himself in two just to get all the work done.
He worked so conscientiously just to earn money for them to spend, only to have it thrown back in his face.
But Lu Yunque kept these thoughts to himself. The fact that Yun Zijin was getting along so well with his family made him the happiest of all.
After all, the relationship between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law has always been notoriously difficult to manage.
As it stood, there didn’t seem to be any problems with how Yun Zijin was getting along with his mother and grandmother.
"I’m only working so hard to earn money for you. Look, I even lost weight on this business trip."
In front of Xu Su Hua, Lu Yunque still acted like a child, trying to win her over with his antics.
Xu Su Hua gave a haughty huff and turned her head away from Lu Yunque.
"Grandpa Lu needs someone to play Go with, Mr. Lu."
Hearing Yun Zijin call him "Mr. Lu," Lu Yunque put a hand to his forehead. ’What a way to address me.’
"Fine, I’ll go play Go with Grandpa."
When it came to playing Go with Lu Zhengguo, Lu Yunque had a lot of grievances.
The old man had gotten more shameless with age; as soon as the tables turned, he’d want to take back his moves.
As the junior, Lu Yunque couldn’t say anything. He could only let his grandpa take back moves until he was on the verge of a mental breakdown, before finally just throwing the game to let the old man win.
In short, Old Sir Lu was a hopelessly bad Go player, and every time Lu Yunque played with him, he’d be left utterly exasperated.
Seeing Lu Yunque’s look of utter despair, Yun Zijin turned to Xu Su Hua. "Is playing Go with Grandpa Lu that terrible?"
Yun Zijin didn’t understand why he looked like he was marching to his doom.
"Want to know?"
Yun Zijin nodded.
"Go watch a game and you’ll see why."
As she said this, the smile on Xu Su Hua’s face never faded.
Driven by curiosity, Yun Zijin followed Xu Su Hua to the game room to watch.
Inside the game room, Old Sir Lu and Lu Yunque sat opposite each other, one with the white stones and the other with the black. They looked quite the part.
When he saw Yun Zijin and Xu Su Hua enter the room, the corners of Lu Yunque’s mouth lifted slightly.
’Yun Zijin doesn’t know about Grandpa’s sore-loser tendencies yet,’ he thought. ’To maintain his image in front of his new granddaughter-in-law, I’m sure he won’t go too far.’
Sure enough, as soon as Yun Zijin came in, Lu Yunque noticed the old man’s expression become a little unnatural.
However, in order to maintain his image in Yun Zijin’s eyes, the old man kept his face taut.
"Grandpa, it’s your turn."
With Yun Zijin present, the smile never left Lu Yunque’s face.
The old man shot Lu Yunque a subtle glare. ’Don’t think you’re the only one with a wife. I have one too!’
The match between grandfather and grandson was a heated back-and-forth. Although Yun Zijin didn’t understand Go and couldn’t follow the game, she could glean a few things just by observing their expressions.
Just then, Lu Yunque placed a stone on the board, and the state of the game changed in an instant.
What had been an evenly matched game immediately became a surefire trap, with Lu Yunque cornering the old man’s stones.
"You! No! That doesn’t count. I just made a mistake. Take your piece back, I’m playing again!"
Old Sir Lu’s words made Yun Zijin’s eyes widen.
’I never would have guessed... so this is the real Grandpa Lu.’
"I was just wondering why you were so well-behaved today, you old coot," Xu Su Hua chimed in. "So you were just waiting for this moment."
Xu Su Hua had thought Old Sir Lu had turned over a new leaf today, but it seemed a leopard couldn’t change its spots. The moment he was about to lose, his true colors were revealed.
With those words, Xu Su Hua gave the old man absolutely no face.
"Grandpa, ’a move made is a move played.’ You were the one who taught me that principle. You wouldn’t say one thing and do another, would you?"
With Yun Zijin here today, Lu Yunque was certain the old man wouldn’t dare to go too far.
Otherwise, the dignified image he was trying to build would be completely shattered.
The old man glared at Lu Yunque again, but when he saw Yun Zijin, he ultimately decided to maintain his image and didn’t actually take back his move.
However, the consequence of not taking back his move was that within the next two minutes, he was utterly decimated by Lu Yunque, not a single piece left standing.
"As we agreed, if I win, we’re done."
If Yun Zijin hadn’t shown up, Lu Yunque might have been tortured by this terrible Go player for a long time.
Now that he’d won, he was liberated ahead of schedule.
Yun Zijin finally understood the look of utter despair on Lu Yunque’s face when he was told to play Go with Old Sir Lu.
"Fine, we won’t play then! As if I was dying to play with you anyway."
Old Sir Lu didn’t want his image in Yun Zijin’s mind to crumble over a game of Go, so he let Lu Yunque off the hook for now.
"Alright, the boy’s finally back for a visit. Stop forcing him to play Go."
"Go polish your treasures in the storeroom. No more Go for today."
Xu Su Hua laid out Lu Zhengguo’s new schedule in no uncertain terms.
The old man pouted. Wanting to go polish his things and being ordered to go do it were two entirely different experiences.
Xu Su Hua led Yun Zijin out of the game room, and Lu Yunque followed right behind them.
Seeing how Lu Yunque’s eyes never left Yun Zijin for a second, Xu Su Hua knew her son was completely smitten.
"This old body of mine is getting on in years. Just walking for a bit has tired my legs out."
"Little sparrow, why don’t you show Zijin around the house? We don’t want her getting lost the next time she visits."
Xu Su Hua wasn’t just saying that; more than one person had gotten lost in the Lu Family’s Old Mansion before.
It had been passed down through the Lu family’s ancestors and covered a rather large area.
"Alright."
Lu Yunque, of course, wasn’t going to pass up this chance to be alone with Yun Zijin.
Yun Zijin wasn’t one for playing coy, so she followed Lu Yunque out of the main hall to tour the old mansion’s many courtyards one by one.
Each courtyard boasted a different landscape, and Yun Zijin was nearly overwhelmed by the variety.
It had to be said, the Lu Family truly lived up to its name as a clan with a century-long history. One could see the depth of their legacy just from the old mansion alone.
And while the villa Yun Zijin lived in was stylish in its own right, as someone who had married into this life, she could see it was a world apart from the Lu Family’s Old Mansion.
Just as Yun Zijin was about to speak, Lu Yunque’s phone rang.
Lu Yunque instinctively took out his phone. When he saw the caller ID was his father, Lu Xianzhang, he gave Yun Zijin an apologetic look.
"Go ahead and take it. I’ll just look around on my own."
Lu Yunque swiped to answer and put the phone to his ear. Whatever the person on the other end said, his expression instantly became grim and solemn.
Noticing the change in his expression, Yun Zijin tactfully found a chair and sat down to wait for him to finish his call.
"Dad, are you kidding me?"
Lu Yunque’s expression was awful; even his lips had turned pale at some point.
Yun Zijin frowned slightly. ’What on earth could have happened,’ she wondered, ’to make him lose his composure so completely?’
"Okay, I understand. I’ll arrange it immediately!"
With that, Lu Yunque hung up the phone.
