Chapter 56
*Sniff* *Sniff*
A group of Vampires could be seen moving across the underground tunnels, sniffing the air in search of a scent.
They all wore the night blue uniform indicating that they were a part of a Vampire squad and were being led by a short young boy who’s face was covered by a mask.
“Noble Marquess… They’ve been here.” Said another Vampire with a mask covering their face as they approached him.
“Yeah… There’s no way I wouldn’t recognise this scent.” He responded with a wide grin present on his face.
He proceeded to look down the dark tunnels, gazing through it with his crimson red eyes before giggling.
“You can’t run from me, Redblood.”
–
The sound of hasty footsteps filled the air as the group journeyed up the stairs of the underground station.
They had decided to move from underground to overground due to the risks it posed.
Their movement was restricted and there was barely anywhere to hide. It would also take them ages to reach where they wanted to go since none of the trains were running or present.
*hop*
One by one, they leapt over the boarding gates before following the exit signs and running down the path.
The closer they got to the exit, the stronger the colder it became, and the stronger the flow of wind.
Eventually, they’d reached the stairs and without wasting a single second, rushed to it’s ascension.
*Fwoosh!*
As they reached the top of the stairs their eyes widened as a strong cold breeze blew by them.
“What the hell is this…?” Viera questioned with as the sight unfolded before their eyes.
With their hairs swaying back against the strong winds, and the droplets of water crashing against their faces. They stared at appeared to be hell on earth.
The roads were filled corpses and puddles of blood which were slowly flooding with all the rain. The buildings around were cracked with their windows shattered and trails of blood running along them.
The cars and busses were vacant and completely destroyed. A massacre had without a doubt taken place.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, after looking up they felt their hearts sink at the sight of the giant black sphere in the sky above them.
It was so big that it almost covered the night sky and stars. The black sphere was all they could see.
“What… What is that…?” Asked Viera as she covered her nose to mask out the nauseating stench.
“I don’t know…” Xavier replied as he narrowed his eyes while staring into the far distance.
They were still inside of the station, but even so they could feel it. There were ghouls all around them.
“Us Vampires also don’t know… What we do know however, is that it’s an event which the higher nobles had been waiting for.” Responded the maid.
Xavier looked to the left at the [Underground.] Sign before his eyes shifted over to the [King’s Cross St Pancreas.] Sign.
Beside it was a map of the underground lines, this would have been useful prior to the situation but not as of now.
“So, what will you do now?” Asked the butler as he glanced at Xavier whilst adjusting his glasses.
“Will you come with us back to the mansion? Or will you and the young lady stay here in the city with your family?” Asked the butler.
Xavier looked over at Viera and Elaine, both of the options seemed to worry them.
‘Makes sense, after all… You either choose to live in a mansion with Vampires or choose to live in a city with Vampires.’
The mansion was an offer the butler had proposed while they were leaving the station. The Redbloods had a few mansions. One of them was Sangrea’s home.
The mansion was fortified of course and had many servants on guard. However, there was no telling how the servants would react to humans like Xavier’s mother or sister. They could even attack them in their sleep.
There was also the problem of the other families going to target the Redbloods. They would probably pay them a visit to beforehand but with the way things were, this would be a perfect excuse for the main families to get rid of them.
‘I promised Sangrea to help her… To do so we’d need to go to the mansion… But then I’d be putting my family at risk…’
‘The risk wouldn’t be as big in the city… I could kill of the ghouls and my only threat would be the Vampires… But with [Rewind.] They could be avoided…’
Xavier took a few moments to think, everyone waited quietly. The cloaked guards on the defense squad had yet to say a word. They only quietly followed orders.
*CRASH!*
Xavier’s thought was interrupted by the sound of a vending machine crashing into the wall beside them.
Glancing down the path before them, they could see a group of ghouls charging towards them. Their eyes were fixed on Viera and Elaine.
“W-What’s wrong with those people?” Asked Elaine with a surprised look as she took a step back.
The ghouls resembled humans. They had wide grins spread across their faces and drooled as they ran on all fours like an animal towards them. For humans they moved scarily fast on all fours.
“W-What’s wrong with everyone? Shouldn’t we be running?” Mumbled Viera as she suddenly retreated to her brothers back, grabbing and tugging on his shirt.
Elaine looked at the other Vampires, none of them had moved, they all had a look of disappointment on their faces. “I don’t think we need to…” Muttered Elaine.
“What?” Viera questioned with an even more confused expression.
Xavier slowly turned to his sister with a smile on his face before placing his palm over her eyes to cover them..
“Viera… Close your eyes for a second. You too, mum.” Said Xavier with a smile.
Viera who was trembling from fear did as he said and closed her eyes, at that moment the ghoul which had finally caught up to them, lunged at her with joyful groans.
“AARGH-”
*SPLATTER!*
