Chapter 2
[System Synchronised!]
*Smack!*
Xavier’s eyes opened wide
The sound of rain drops echoing through the hall, filled his ears. Confused, he looked left and right. . .
Slowly, his blurry vision filled in, revealing the halls where he had just been a short time ago.
The eyes of Xavier were frozen open. Slowly, he moved his hand over to his neck, rubbing it lightly.
He still had his head attached.
“A….Ah….” His voice struggled to come out, petrified by the fear.
He could feel the bread he had for breakfast in the morning slowly flowing back up his throat as he had an intense urge to throw up.
Instead of causing a scene, he closed his teary eyes and swallowed it back, before gasping and panting for air.
‘I… I died… I know I did… I died… So how-‘
The principal interrupted Xavier’s thoughts
“My students… Once again, I’d like to thank you all for coming on this Friday!”
He felt his heart skip a beat.
‘This speech was…’
“I’m sure you’re all tired and still in the mood for vacations but unfortunately, we have to come in today!”
‘No way…’ he thought to himself.
“I really hope you all enjoy your first year at college!”
Xavier’s pupils dilated. As it sank in, his heart began to beat faster and faster.
At that moment, Xavier pulled out his phone to check the time.
9:15 AM. September 9th 2022.
‘This confirms it… After dying, I went back in time… But how? Does it have something to do with that system thing I heard-‘

Xavier’s eyes widened as a strange system interface appeared before him. He scrolled quickly through the interface knowing his time was limited.
‘What the hell is this? Some sort of game stat screen?’
‘If that’s the case what’s with these shit stats?’
Xavier’s curious eyes landed on the other tabs. Though he wanted to check them, there was no time.
He jumped to his feet and began to run through the crowd of chairs as quickly as he could to the exit.
The students as well as the principal were taken by surprise by the sudden action.
“What’s he doing?”
“That guy has balls… Imagine pulling weird shit like this on the first day of college.”
“Look at the principal’s face, he looks so confused! Lol.”
Xavier ignored the comments from the people around him and ran to the exit opposite the one he had gone to previously.
One of the teachers was standing by the door to the exit, a tall and muscular teacher with short brown hair.
He appeared to have noticed Xavier heading for the door, and since he was closer, he stood by it to question him.
*Bump!*
In reaching for the handle, Xavier bumped into him, which caused him to fall to the ground.
The teacher asked, “Where do you think you’re going?”.
Xavier nervously glanced at the entrance on the other end of the hall.
*Tsss*
The mark on his neck began to glow and burn.
‘Fuck! It’s starting soon!!!’
“I need a really really big dump! I really need to go!! Please let me out!” He yelled out shamelessly.
Since he knew he couldn’t leave with the teacher there and there was no way he could overcome him, he shamelessly yelled out the first thing that came into his head.
“A-Ah… So that was the case… Right.. I’m sorry… You did seem quite desperate…”
As the students watched Xavier run out of the door and the teacher walk away, the entire room burst into laughter.
“Hahaha! Did you hear what he said!?”
“I need to take a big dump!! What’d he eat that morning!?”
“He better make sure he washes those hands after he’s done!”
“Eww… Stop talking about-”
*BANG!*
Suddenly, a loud bang reverberated throughout the room, snapping them out of their joyful moment.
They watched as the the door from one of the entrances soared across the room before coming to a stop as it crashed against the wall.
*CRASH!*
–
–
By the bushes around the school gate, Xavier was crouched and hidden.
He was soaked by the pouring rain and shivering from the cold.
It was clear they had all entered through the school entrance since there were no ghouls or vampires visible on the side of the school where he was.
“My house in the same direction of the entrance… I’ll have to climb over this wall and then take the long way home…”
Xavier felt bad for leaving his classmates behind, but he didn’t know them very well either. He was a transfer student and it was his first day.
Essentially, they were strangers.
Keeping his family safe was more important to him than anything else.
His powerless self could not survive with the attention he would get from moving with everyone.
Xavier pulled out his phone and checked the time.
9:19 AM.
“AAAAAAAAAH!!!!”
A blood curdling scream echoed throughout the inside of the gym. Xavier’s eyes grew wide.
‘That’s the signal!’
He leapt up onto the wall as soon as possible, struggling greatly to climb it with his small and weak legs.
From the top of the wall, he stood wide-eyed.
He could see the buildings around the school and the roads.
There were people in dark blue uniforms and caps holding on to ghouls with metal leashes all over the place.
A few seconds later, he jumped across the wall into another bush and surveyed the area.
The place was completely infested, there were no openings anywhere.
9:20 AM.
Moments later, the time struck 20, and in that instant, he instantly noticed that things were getting dark. It was almost as if a dark cloud loomed over him.
Upon looking up, he felt chills rush down his spine.
‘What… What is that…?’
An enormous black sphere floated in the clouds above. The sight of terror unfolded before Xavier’s eyes as he crouched by the bush.
[Dimensional Rift.]
Xavier was startled by the sudden voice and bumped his head against the wall behind him.
[Dimension Rifts are opening between dimensions or worlds. The rift is currently inactive and will most likely stay that way for a long time, however…]
Xavier’s ears twitched.
‘W-Wait… You can talk?’
[Negative, I can answer the user’s questions, depending on the information available.]
‘…Same thing… More importantly… What were you going to say? However-‘
*CRASH!*
Startled, Xavier turned his eyes from the sky above over to the post before him where a car had crashed.
The driver stumbled out of the car with his entire body a few seconds later. Parts of his hand had lit up in a glowing light like some sort of super power.
The man seemed confused about this himself but too injured to properly make out what it was. He began swaying his arms around trying to put out the light.
‘Even with the airbags deployed, the car was completely smashed up, yet he’s able to freely move?’
‘Is he also a Vampire or ghoul?’
[Negative, that is a human.]
[A ghoul is a human which has failed to become a vampire.]
The system responded in his mind.
‘Then how is he able to do that?’
[The Dimensional Rift.]
[Whenever it invades a world, it unlocks the source of energy hidden deep within a person and amplifies it. It also amplifies the surrounding energy. This phenomenon awakens supernatural abilities within people’s bodies.]
‘…Why is all of this happening now? Is this part of the Vampire’s plans?’ Xavier questioned as he watched the confused man.
It wasn’t just him, but countless other people came out of hiding, freaked out by the changes happening to them.
Some had elements moving at their disposable whilst others had more unique traits.
[Due to a lack of information, unable to answer the User’s question.]
[However, I would assume the Vampires have started this chaos because they hold no control over the situation.]
[With this Rift active, the humans, their prey, will only continue to get stronger.]
‘So they feel threatened…’ Xavier concluded.
[Affirmative.]
Whilst Xavier watched the chaos take place before him, a deep growl caught his eyes.
Turning to the right, he noticed ghouls coming from all over the place, approaching the people who were making the most noise.
One even began approaching the distracted man who had just been on an accident.
Xavier wanted to call out to him and warn him, but he didn’t want to risk his location being given away. And in that moment, the ghoul leapt and the man, biting into the man’s neck and tearing a chunk of flesh from his body as it did so.
It then proceeded to drown in his blood just a few seconds later with the most satisfied look on its face.
The ghouls in the area had been freed from the leashes the Vampires had put on them.
‘…Hey…’ Xavier called out inwardly.
‘…Give me an idea to get away safely from here… Something that might help.’
[Due to a lack of information, unable to assist the user in such a way.]
‘…Nevermind.’
‘…I’ll figure it out myself..’ He thought to himself as he moved along the bushes.
Right now his priority was getting the hell out of there and getting home.
