Chapter 12
“I have an offer to make, Join us… The Vampire Opposition Corps.” He offered.
It was almost no surprise to anyone when the offer was made, and the room fell silent. All that information wouldn’t have been given out for nothing.
“Even with most of our main forces on the battlefield, we are lacking in numbers, so is the military. Therefore, we are trying to recruit potential evacuees to work with us.”
“We don’t have much time, and all of you here have the potential to work with us.”
“If you join our organization, we will provide you with a safe place to rest, nutritious food, and even protection for you and your family.”
“So you’re trying to scout us… You offer fair terms and it’s not like anywhere outside is safe at the moment.”
Kite adjusted his glasses and smiled as everyone watched.
“Before I give you a reply, I have a question. Where did the Vampires come from, and what distinguishes the ghouls from them?”
The cement grey haired man looked at Kite with surprise for a moment before responding.
“Vampires have existed for as long as we humans have. They have lived in hiding but have always been there.”
“Ghouls are Vampires who have succumbed to their hunger, when a Vampire doesn’t feed, it either dies or becomes something known as a Ghoul, a vampire who loses it’s senses and becomes a monster who craves nothing but blood.”
Kite took off his glasses.
“Then, the last question. Why did the Vampires suddenly decide to attack us humans and come out of hiding?”
The grin widened on the cement grey haired man’s face.
“Because we are at a point of evolution. The black sphere which you saw in the sky brought a new source of energy into our world… This energy has resulted in our race evolving.”
“They are scared, worried that the power balance will be altered and they will no longer be able to feed as freely as they once could.”
Kite put his glasses into its case before putting the case in his bloodied bag.
“Alright, I’m in. I don’t know much about your organisation but that doesn’t matter for now. I’ll find out over time… It’s clear that you know a lot more about this apocalypse than the military anyways.”
“My chances of survival are at the highest with you.”
“You truly are bright, Kite…” said the cement grey haired man with a smile.
“What about the others? Those who are in favour of joining, raise your hand.”
Each person in the room quickly raised their hands into the air until everyone except Xavier had their arms raised.
“Xavier, was it? Is the offer not to your liking?” The cement grey haired man asked as he glanced in his direction.
‘So he knows my name… Not surprised.’
“I’m supposed to find out something about my family here… Tell me what it is.”
Xavier had no desire to work under them, nor was he planning to; however, he needed the information.
“Ah, right… I was just about to get to that.”
The man snapped his fingers again, and the image behind him changed again, except this time it showed different angles within cities from CCTV’s in different neighbourhoods. The time was also displayed.
9:20 AM was the time shown in the image.
Seeing what was happening through their images, their eyes grew wide.
As soon as the black sphere manifested, Vampires wearing their night blue uniform appeared in the shadows and began breaking into people’s homes.
After leaving the homes, they would take unconscious humans hostage or even those who were awake and trying to break free.
Countless images of this happening were shown.
“Can you guess what this is?”
“…”
“It’s a video of vampires kidnapping people right before the ghosts are released.”
“They are capturing them because they need to feed…”
The man looked directly at Xavier in the eyes.
“Can you tell what I’m getting at? Many of the people in this room have had their families taken hostage. Not just here but all over the country.”
“I overheard your little conversation about revenge… And I must say, instead of focusing on revenge. Why not focus on making sure they’re still alive?”
Xavier couldn’t believe his ears. His voice trembled slightly as he hesitantly asked.
“They’re still alive…?”
“Why don’t you see for yourself?” The man asked before snapping his fingers once more. At that moment, a video was projected behind him, and Xavier instantly felt his heart sink.
A CCTV video of his house from a neighbor’s perspective showed vampires breaking into his neighbor’s home on his road.
As they had seen in the previous video, the Vampires were carrying his neighbours away from the scene. They included children and women of all ages, all for the purpose of feeding.
Xavier’s eyes were glued to his house. The windows had been broken into and through the broken windows it was evident there was an ongoing struggle inside.
After a few more seconds of struggle, Xavier’s sister and mother were suddenly carried out of the house on the shoulders of two Vampires wearing a night blue uniform.
One had long, steel blue hair which reached his shoulders, while the other had short, spiky raspberry red hair. Both swords were out of their sheathes, and they were covered in wounds that were healing as they carried the two out of the house.
Xavier watched helplessly as his unconscious sister and mother were carried away.
And if that wasn’t enough… Seeing what followed would surely traumatize him.
His father crawling out of the house with only one hand and fractured bones in his leg shook him to the core.
He saw his father’s tears streaming down his face as he desperately tried to stop them. Even though he was ignoring all injuries in his body and doing everything he could to protect his family, he was stomped on by the steel blue haired vampire who carried his wife.
The blood flowed down Xavier’s hands as he clenched them tightly. As his eyes alternated between being dark and crimson, his breathing became unsteady and ragged.
He watched as the steel blue haired vampire placed the edge of the blade just above his father’s head, indicating that he would kill him.
“Don’t do it…” Xavier murmured. “Please…”
As he thrust his sword downward, another Vampire shot down the camera, causing the images to quickly go static.
Xavier fell to his knees.
The cement gray-haired man glanced at Xavier with a worried look.
“I am sorry… I honestly did not wish to show you this… It was a truly unfortunate thing to happen.”
“I am not sure about your father but there is still hope for your sister and mother! They were captured so they are most likely being held at a vampire camp.”
With his head hung low and a trembling voice, he asked.
“Which camp…? Where are they…?” Xavier asked.
A grin grew on the face of the cement grey haired man.
“We do not know… If you joined us, we could devote time to finding out.”
“…”
“If I joined you, will you take me to them to get them back?”
The grin unfortunately faded from the man’s face.
“It doesn’t work like that… They’ve already been caught. There are nobles and all sorts of monsters to be found in a Vampire’s camp. We won’t be able to get them back until everything’s settled down.”
“…Then, I can’t join you…” Xavier muttered as he got up before slowly turning and making his way back out through the entrance. “And even if that wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t have joined you regardless.”
“There’s something about you that pisses me off…” He commented.
“Is that so… That’s truly a shame… I really hope you come to understand that it’ll be almost impossible to find them on your own. You’d have to search the whole of England… Do you really think by the time you do that, they’ll still be alive?”
Xavier looked at the [Skill] section in his status screen.
[Rewind.]
“They will… I’ll find them, no matter what it takes…”
Xavier stared at the reinforced door before him before remembering the two Vampires who had taken his family and injured his father.
Their faces were burned into their minds.
With tears in his eyes and his fangs extending from his mouth, Xavier made a vow.
‘I’ll kill them… In the most painful way possible…’
*Step*
The tall, dark-haired man was about to unlock the room to leave when a stranger in the room spoke up.
“Man, why waste time recruiting someone like him who was clearly not interested in the first place?”.”
Xavier halted. A tall, deep orange-haired man with knives around his waist was speaking.
“I can’t sit here watching stupid old families get kidnapped all day. It’s the apocalypse, everything’s gone to shit. Who the fuck cares about what happens to them? If their dumbasses can’t even protect themselves what’s the point of-”
Before he could so much as finish what he was about to say, his eyes widened as a hand filled with blood lust suddenly a hand appeared before his face ready to tear it down.
It was Xavier’s hand. In an instant, he had gone from standing before the door to standing right next to him on the other side of the room.
In that same instant, three other people stopped Xavier.
One was the moss green haired man with the bloodied business suit, he had grabbed Xavier’s hand as he stood before him.
The other was a cloaked stranger who was hiding his face beneath his hood. The palm of his hand was right on Xavier’s stomach, indicating that if he took another step, he would be hurt.
Last but not least, there was the girl with wine-red hair and small yellow eyes that wore a school uniform. The girl appeared to be crouching down behind him as she blew bubble gum out of her mouth again.
As she scrolled through her tablet, she whispered quietly, “He’s now a member of their group, so if you hurt him, you’ll provoke them…”.
The two others, on the other hand, glared at Xavier as if warning him to back down.
Xavier sighed and lowered his hand.
Likewise, the others lowered their guard. As the deep orange haired man who had insulted Xavier’s family began to reap the benefits of joining an organization, he grinned.
“Serves you right, you short fuck.” He stuck his tongue out.
‘He looks strong but even he’s not crazy enough to try anything here.’ He thought to himself.
Xavier took a step in the door’s direction, and right when they all loosened up-
*CRASH!*
Xavier’s fist crashed against the wall as if by magic, hammering the head of the man who had insulted his family into its surface.
As all eyes turned to him, they widened.
“Oh~ He managed to slip past me?” The man in the business suit questioned as he took a step in Xavier’s direction.
“One more step and he’ll die.” said Xavier.
“You wouldn’t-”
The businessman’s conversation was interrupted by the orange haired mans painful groans as Xavier gripped his head more tightly than before.
‘This crazy fuck…!!!’ The orange haired man cursed inwardly as he tried moving Xavier’s arm away.
However, no matter how hard he tried, it wouldn’t move.
Knowing this, he reached over to his waist to grab a hold of his knives, but the moment he did, he felt it.
A scythe belonging to the grim reaper limping right over his shoulders.
“Try it… We’ll see which one of us dies first.” Dared Xavier.
“…”
“I don’t care what you say about me… But to insult my family like that… You…”
“Do you have a death wish…?” Xavier asked with hollow eyes.
